Can't imagine how different China/ the whole political landscape of the entire world would have been if Sun Yat Sen didn't die beforehand and managed to successfully unite China by himself.
He basically did though, he had secured Koumintang hegemony over China. It was Chiang Kai-Shek who caused China to collapse again by doing a coup and executing or imprisoning all the left KMT and Communists, starting the second phase of the civil war were the Communists obviously won because surprise surprise, none of the competent generals and politicians liked Chiang, and none of the actual people liked Chiang either since he was basically a proto-fascist dictator
@@Wvrmmvn What I meant is that how different things could have been if Sun was in charge of northern expedition. In real life, it was Chiang who led it and his right wing radicalism (unlike Sun, who is less right wing and more of a democratic republican) led to the civil war with the communists which gave Mao an opportunity to spread propaganda and mobilize peasants against him ending up in a complete takeover of China by the communists.
We cant just copy paste Taiwan's history on a nationalist china. China has always been authoritarian whether it was dynastic, republican or communist/socialist or nationalist. You just have to be authoritarian to run a country with a culture like that. If the nationalists won china would likely still be authoritarian(Tho there might be a bit more freedom but they wont go full american) The only major diff would be that this china would side with the west despite being authoritarian and the Soviet Union and russia(and practically the whole communist world) will be cornered. They might also be richer due to capitalism or could be poorer but thats up for debate. I have no fucking clue how the chinese-indian rivalry would look in this timeline.
@AzureWolf168they lost due to the Japanese. Before the Japanese invasion the Communists were a bunch of untrained citizens hiding in the mountains. And before the war the nationalists were actually destroying the communists. But after the Japanese invasion, the nationalists had become ravaged by war and heavily crippled by it. The communists took advantage of the now crippled nationalists and kicked them off mainland China. That's how the nationalists lost, sorry for the long read.

hoi4 is way more simplyfied one. Nationalist lost partially because their army are all pre-warlord army banded togheter, so they are way less united. Unlike communist they build their entire army from "scratch"
As a Chinese, I'd like to clarify / correct some of the points that were made. 1. The railway protection movement (not actually much connected to the revolutionists) was actually the strongest in Sichuan, not Hubei, since the people in Sichuan got no compensation whatsoever when the railway is sold. The movement was so bad that the Qing had to bring the Hubei army into the region, so the revolutionists seized this opportunity, and actually somehow managed to succeed. (Note that "somehow" is used very strongly here, as it was very rushed due to the bomb explosion. The revolutionaries had planned over a dozen of revolutions before, but all of them had failed. This succession was so surprising that Sun Yat-Sen wasn't even at the site when it succeeded.) 2. The Qing dynasty ***technically*** didn't end when Puyi abdicated. The Qing dynasty was still allowed to exist in basically Puyi's backyard for a couple more years. He still had servants and such, but not outside of his garden. Don't worry, this isn't the last of him, as he would reclaim the title of emperor of China and abdicate two more times. And still being alive. You rock Puyi.
