  • A very nice day plowing in clay loam ground with the 1950 McCormick W4 and 2 furrow #8C plow. Take special note that we skipped over a big rock at time marker 1:45! My oldest son is driving in the video at 2:00 and doing a good job. He likes plowing with the W4 just like I do. We noticed that the old left rear tire was ripped on the inside the weekend before the event, so I installed these good used ones that I had "in stock" to be ready for a good full day of fun! We plowed for almost 6 hours that day!

Good day Boy moving right along. I was surprised how much of a howl there was. Our neighbor many many yrs. ago had super W-4, & it was dry, lady said you could hardly see him moved. Low gear he was in & I don't think he reun motor too fast. Thanks I'm glad your son thought it was fun.. Thanks

Hi Don. I don't think the transmission noise is as noticeable in person. The camera tends to pick that stuff up. At any rate, I'm not overly worried about it. We were in 2nd gear, about 3/4 throttle most of the time.

That’s a wonderful video for me! You see, I grew up on the Farmall equivalent, which is an H. In Northeast Georgia, W4’s are like unicorns: I think I have seen two, total, in my whole life.

Thanks! We have lots of W4s here in Ontario Canada.

The W Series tractor were designed mainly for wheat and small grain farming, the Farmall models were designed for row crop farming. The W-4 was the "wheatland" version of the Farmall H, the W-6 was the "wheatland" version of the Farmall M and the big W-9 had no "Farmall" model equivalent.
