I too, Yarrow, used to think that Lavender was an 'old woman's fragrance'. Now that I am one, my appreciation for this herb has grown. My favourite thing to do with Lavender is to make salves as gifts. I prefer to use Lavender topically rather than as a food flavouring. The colour is so soothing, as is the fragrance. I will be growing Lavender in my garden next year. Blessings to you and yours from Ontario.
You always sound so calming and grateful & full of appreciation- it makes one feel so blessed and looked after. How abundant our life can feel when we can access such high quality content, lots of information to inspire and guide us & Mother Nature always has something to help us in so many ways, too. Thank you for sharing your gift so generously. I had a long day - I’m a working single mum with a 9-year-old off school for summer holiday ( here school summer holidays are 3 full months!!!🤪)so the days feel knackering as I’m trying to work from home with a kid who’s constantly demanding all my eyeballs & ears… by bedtime I had a horrible headache & decided to sneak out to my garden to pick some of my lavender because I never had time for it lately. Then the notification popped up on my phone that you uploaded this video. I picked lavender while listening & my headache is gone. Thank you 🙏🏾 Lots of love from Latvia 🇱🇻
Thanks for sharing your moment with us. So glad you were able to tune in with this herb directly while checking this info out. Also I hear you with kids out of school and how full on this can be at times.
I was a preschool teacher for many years as well as having a home day care. Using lavender essential oil on myself helped me to be patient and calm. Occasionally I would bring some flowers into the classroom or my home. The children always loved it.
Nothing wrong with old ladies. What a gorgeous garden! I've added lavender to my dream pillows which also include mugwort and chamomile. I like the lavender to keep the dreams on the sweeter side!
I've got lots of love and respect for those in their wise woman years. In my earlier years though I didn't resonate with lavender for myself as I had a preconceived ideal that it was not for me at the age I was.
Thank you for this video and your knowledge on this plant. This years lavender harvest for me was short, I did it thinking my Dad would get use of it in the hospice as a dream pillow... sadly this wasn't to be. I found myself gravitating to it this year and have 12 more wee plugs to plant around the garden as I'm wanting a border of it all over the place. Makes more sense after listening to you and the spiritual history of it, thank you! :)
I would love to make essential oil! As having it on hand for burns, sunburns too…is absolutely essential. Thank you for all the ideas. I grow it and don’t do a lot with it. I have infused oil for lotion and have harvested to make sachets..
One of the strongest natural antihistamines available to us. A stong cup ' o ' lavender tea at bedtime opens up the sinuses, clears hay fever and congestion, opens the lungs and calms the nerves for sleep. Its been a fav for years now and I have a few friends hooked and now off of athsma inhalers for hay fever. Great vid! 👍 😊
@@CM-03 yes and a very enjoyable one. I don't mind the floral taste. My bf likes it too but it took him some getting used to. He calls is " granny's nickers" tea as it's kinda perfumy. You get used to it and it's worth it.
I have literally just harvested a few bunches from my garden. Thank you for all the info. It’s one of my favourite herbs. Like you said, as soon as I smell it I am instantly calm and peaceful. I normally use it in teas and I also have the essential oil which I always use.
So love your work Yarrow 💜 There are so many varieties of Lavender now, I’m guessing you would be looking at the older varieties for more vitality? Thank you
What is it about honey infusion that makes it your favourite way to work with? Is it just the flavour balance of the honey sweetening the bitterness of the lavender? Also, for things like teas, are there any big risks/contraindications?
Is there a particular strain of Lavender that grows well in SC? I'm having trouble with mold - it has been a particularly went spring and summer this year. Thanks for the great video!!
I seem to have no luck with growing it either. I'm in Northeast Florida and got a variety from a local nursery that normally grows well here. I know it's not supposed to have too much water. I'll think I'm taking good care of it, but it never seems to stay alive for very long.

You can also smoke it! It's very nice, give it a try mixed in with whatever other herbs you're enjoying. I love it with blue lotus and mullen.
I also tried lavender in a smoke mix back when I was experimenting more with smoke mixes. I agree it adds a great flavour.

Can the leaves be used if the flowers have already gone?
Yes they can, there are oils in the leaves as well, just not as potent.

Make sure you have good drainage..lavender likes to dry out between waterings.
You mention lavender mentioned in the Bible as spikenard. Isn’t spikenard its own thing, seperate from lavender?
I've always thought spikenard is datura
Yes there is another plant named spikenard, but at that time in history, lavender was also called spikenard as it had a spike like flower

First thing my family reaches for when burned is lavender.
Yes Burns are a great use for this herb topically as an Essential oil or in a salve.
Lavender literally turns you gay the estrogen in this plant is super powerful.
