LK I respect the fuck outta you for pushing Millia to her absolute limits in Strive. But frankly like you said, she don't got the capabilities to box consistently with the other tourney characters. Its literally not possible. Personally still waiting for the HC arc, but the Bacon phase is welcomed too

I think unfortunately everyone knew this was gonna have to happen at some point unless they hella buffed Millia this patch. But for real, dude, mad respect. You truly pushed this character as hard as you possibly could since day 1 when everyone was calling her unplayable. But yeah... if your goal is winning against the best players in the world, that's a tough path.
i mean it sucks, cuz millia has pretty much unreactable mixups if you can present multiple options. giving someone like that higher damage could be devastating, so i guess i get why they wouldnt wanna buff her
@@mayorpikachu92 I don't know how LK or other Millia top players would feel, but I think a lot of people would be OK with toning down her dumbest shit if she's allowed to get mileage off her offense. Right now you get cool stuff that accomplishes basically fuck all, and once you're done you've just fully charged your oponent's tension for 50% of their health, whereas a Nago will pick you off and send your health bar to oblivion. At the pro level that's just not viable.
@@mayorpikachu92 Which is cool and all, but the problem is this game has some characters that are truly just playing a different tier of game. Their neutral is stronger, their setplay is just as good as Millia's, and their damage is bigger and less character specific. Unless they buff her to be on that tier or nerf those guys, she's playing too honest of a game for Strive still (which is saying something for a character like Millia).

I don't think the "Told you so" can really apply either. A lot of those offenders are either DLC or had significant changes either through patching (Nagoriyuki blood) or system changes (Fast RC really lets people slug and benefits characters that build meter faster). Millia couldn't keep up.
Fast RC change actually benefits Millia a ton, but yeah, we didn't know that they would buff established chars (while slapping them on the wrists).

If you’re gonna switch for results, there is next to no reason to not play HC imo. Glad to see you treating yourself at character select, self love is overlooked in fighting game community sometimes
So this was recorded before I thought about it more, the choice is between HC and Ram for established characters. I'm sort of leaning towards Ram, but I have a very good impression of Baiken atm

@@LordKnightfgc Ram is so much fun man, i learned her to "first time" a character against my friend who loves fighting games but had just bought Strive. I immediately fell in love with her. Shes a Degen for sure, but gaht dahm is that shit fun

Hope the character shift makes the game less rage-inducing for you LK, it always sucks when you can't outrun your favourite character being a source of frustration when you play them.
I mostly just play +R these days and I super feel what you're talking about with not being able to attack from safe ranges in Strive compared to previous versions.
Honestly think baiken would be a good pick. Feel like more people are scared of HC and Ram so they practice that MU a shit ton more.
Also haven't seen that many baikens In tourney so that would be nice to watch
The point about taking into consideration how developed the matchups are is really interesting.
Dude baiken is so fun, aside from all of the cross up and mix up options, the tether alone is so much fun
While I wait for that one guy in the comments to show up I just wanna say I respect this choice to switch off millia in pursuit of your own goals. You pushed this character for over a year and have been the gold standard for her for even longer. Good luck with baiken and hc (if it happens) and I'll be cheering you on no matter what.
Trying to be one of the twenty; I think you’ve put in the work with Millia, and you give good reasons for why she struggles and why Baiken may be the way forward. Hoping you find success with her. 👍

inb4 Baiken gets slaughtered in the winter patch. This isn't the Sanford Kelly timeline anymore, find that nice mid-tier/low high tier (LOOKING AT YOU, KY MAINS) niche and ride it all the way to the finish line while getting buff on buff along the way.

I feel like a lot of the mentioned issues are consequences of Strive trying to reduce the overall capabilities of every character to make it more approachable while still trying to keep more traditional insane GG things in the game. Which is possibly the reason why the balance in terms of tournament viability might suffer as well.
If the skill ceiling of the characters and their power level would be higher, there would be more incentive and options to play around bad matchups with a more flexible toolset. Whereas currently the MUs are quite polarizing and people feel the need to switch or counter pick in order to get consistent results.
There are weak characters in almost every fighting game. It's not about overall power levels but comparative power levels. Games like 3rd strike, xrd, or +r all have plenty of options but there are always going to be characters better suited for tournament results. I don't think simplification has much to do with it, just that Millia is currently on the weaker side compared to the rest of the cast
I dunno Xrd is like that too honestly.
No, higher power level creates just bigger disparity because one side is locked down longer than before.
@@AzazelTheMisanthrope I didn't feel that way tbh. Tournament representation in top 8 was quite diverse. Ofc you had outliers like Elphelt and, if Omito was present, Johnny. But the best characters weren't so scewed that you could not work around that with your own to quite some extend.
@@Nyagro Characters like Kum, Potemkin, Axl, and Zato rarely ever appear in tournaments in Xrd.
And Johnny was way more prevalent than you think, even though Omito won the most tournaments Johnny was an extremely popular tournament character. And the gaps between some characters are actually tremendous. Xrd Potemkin literally couldn't fight Sin Kiske at all for example. Honestly Elphelt and Johnny probably placed with as much frequency as Nagoriyuki and Chaos.

As a fan of yours since the Blazblue Litchi days, you do you. While I've been super inspired by your Millia as I learn her in Strive (until Dizzy joins), you're playing this game to compete and get good results.
Even at a low level I can feel bits of the problems you mentioned with Millia, just from experience playing her in AC & Xrd. Currently in Strive, Millia feels like she is more able to control the match when on defense than in neutral which is EXTREMELY weird after years of this character. It makes wallbreak situations have this awkward tradeoff where you like the damage and meter but you're put back in neutral which feels like the worse situation for Millia to be in.
I'll still cheer you on in your endeavors with Baiken!
Thank you for all the work you put into Millia. I adore her but she has to play so perfectly to be viable for top level play. I completely understand the switch man. You might inspire me to pick up Baiken as well

I for one can't wait to see how you evolve HC or baiken. I play nago, hc, testament and thinking of playing GL and bridget. I think I gravitate towards those characters because I want to give my opponent the least amount of time to come back or gimmick me to death, and I've always watched you play. I think you're definitely a top 4 player so don't let anyone tell you what to think

has she really gotten nerfed that hard since then or is it a situation like sol where her harder matchups got buffed to the point where you see those characters too often for winning to be realistically feasible with the character?

Her pressure is really bad post patch. Like LK was complaining about in the video, she can lose to her own offense Super easily which is not what LK wants.
Gio isn’t even top 10 anymore so really not competitively viable
To add to what the guy above me said, her approach is also really linear. So against the top tiers like Ram, Nago, Zato and HC, it's easy to stuff her approach. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for them nerfing her offense the way they did.

Gio is still good IMO, slightly nerfed compared to before. However, I just thought that if I play another char, I should aim for a char that is either established top tier, or one where we "don't know", but everyone says is good (Baiken).

Its tragic tbh, because I feel like there is a lot of unfair standards certain characters have to deal with and it is especially frustrating when your favorite is in that position. Character loyalty/fun only goes so far when fighting big shots that are at or potentially better than your current level. I never really understood the concept of certain characters having to put out more work/optimization if you could get the same effective result as someone else who has less of a mental stack to think about on offense. Idk there is only so much intrinsic gain for playing something hard but I feel like games need to do a better job of evening it out. It really does feel like if you play something difficult you don't get as much from it there are good and bad examples of that idea. Execution difficulty is something I consider a learned muscle memory so I don't see it as too impactful on the grand scheme of things but like risk/reward difficulty, difficulty based on nuance or understanding when momentum shifts mid match, I feel like if someone puts in the work for it and the character has shown itself to be hard they should be compensated.... at least within reasonable standards.

Yeah, I might drop Millia, too. Love her, she’s so fast, but I just feel really limited by Millia in comparison to Ramlethal and May. I dropped Ky for Ram, but I’m just gonna replace Millia for Ky.

I feel like with a new patch coming out in the winter it might be worth waiting but I respect your ability to learn characters pretty quickly so you do you, who knows maybe millia is to tier next patch

Playing a character that makes you mad or just doesn't feel good doesn't make a ton of sense.

4:00 I think maybe instead of looking at the max damage a character can get off of a hit, we need to look more at the average damage the character gets from common situations. Ky for example doesn't do a lot of damage from most of his hits but counterhit 6H in the corner just deletes your character.
You love but hate to see it. However, I can’t wait to see what you do with Baiken/Happy.

I'm glad you have a couple of other characters lined up that you enjoy. I'm not sure how I feel about the game on this latest patch, but I'm unhappy with Goldlewis, I don't know that there's another character I could switch to that I would enjoy that would improve the situation.

Dang, that sucks, Millia is hella fun to watch, but oh well. Hope you do well with the Baiken going forward, I'm thinking of picking her up as a pocket for my I-No too.
Makes me a little bummed out that we won't be seeing your millia that often since seeing you play the character inspires me to grind out millia and get better with her, but baiken is very welcome to as she is another personal favorite character of mine.
Is there any way they could patch milia so she'd be more viable at top level or do you think she's just fundamentally not it in this game?
Hard KD on S disk, safer 2D/Iron Savior, buff meter gain or crank up damage on a single move to be the definitive big body cash out.
She's just risky to play because she trades poorly. the buffs to her jS and fS for example was a big booster for her and shows what she needed

You grinded and you proved to the community millia isn’t the sauce. She never was. I think you’re making the right switches, even if hc is immoral but you gotta do what you gotta do.
As a Baiken player this makes me quite happy.
It makes sense for you to do better with Milia before when she was worse because the game wasn't as understood and it was with your experience/skill carrying you through. I'm glad you're switching to another character but you still have to put in the work if you wanna excel. You can tell you're not happy and it's no use to keep bashing your head in trying to make it work.
Me watching Goldlewis chip me to death with meter after a gold burst even though he gets a billion damage before and after risk build. Meanwhile Axl couldn’t hit a lick to save his life. Nigga got no chip damage.

This is interesting. When someone says they wanna switch characters, sometimes they dont actually follow through. Itll be interesting to see who LK plays in wat matchup, if he wins, and is it worth it? LK character crisis arc initiated.
I respect this a ton, for whatever that's worth. For one, you HAVE to be a good player to make such an analysis. And secondly, tournament stuff is so different from casual play that the things LK are talking about have a much greater impact in that environment. Hopefully they rework Millia to have some juice, but as of right now I agree that it just makes sense to play a character that rewards the effort that you put in, especially considering that Millia is one of the few characters with this issue currently.
This is how you approach annoying stuff in a competitive setting, not being a weird whiny baby that thinks the world belongs to you.
SN: This is all High Level Tournament Play stuff! At the end of the day, you should *always* play the characters that you enjoy playing with the most, regardless of tier stuff, because tbh for MOST of us we don't play at a level where these are issues that we face or even need to consider yet.
Happy to see if you find out there's more than 1-2 reasons for players to enjoy Baiken. ;)
Forreal though, you've been a brilliant part of the FGC and Strive especially and have taught many how to level up their play for the better. Excited to see what this character change does for you, but the added experience and versatility of your time with Millia adds to your potential. Do believe you took her to the max, and hope you can return to her in time, Daisuke permitting.
I really wanted you to keep playing my girl but when so much is on the line it's understandable. Would you consider picking her back when new moves come out?
Hopefully people will accept this, this video was well reasoned and you never downplayed Millia once. You've tried Millia and since other characters are more advantageous use them. Get yourself a tourney win, cheers!

@@yourbellboy Honestly I knew their were some extremist Millia supporters who would be unhappy with this news but I didn't know to this extent. Like people are saying he downplayed Millia when he himself admitted he did not know how to push the character anymore nor did he have the skill to do so. He did not say Millia couldn't perform or win tournaments, just that the level of effort and expertise was unfortunately not obtainable. People like Anko and those who are rooting for Lk's downfall are the problematic few in the fgc who needs to get axed.

Baiken's a solid pick. I also think she has some similarities with Millia that will transfer over nice from your current skillset that I think will make picking her up very quick (imo Baiken has the best air-to-air game after Millia, Youzansen was my biggest hope that they'd look into adjusting a few things about bad moon since it's currently just all around better, surprisingly strong keep out/away game thanks to 5S, Kabari, and j.D).
NGL and say I won't miss the Millia grind, but I'm not disappointed, I'm always looking forward to you doing your best and whatever moves you make to do that is A-OK with me. Here's to a more successful season~ 🍻
Also, as for fucked up DLC, Bridget was last on my personal list and got in. Right above her was Dizzy. The odds aren't impossible, though if I'm honest I'd still rather we get new normals for the cast and force breaks.

Best of luck to you LK, I thought you would have switched after last year's EVO since losing to Leo's DP multiple times on offense seemed to be a good enough reason to drop her but you stuck to her for a whole damn year. Hoping you would find more success with your choices.
Seems like Ram is still on your list as well, do you still have plans to try her out for tournaments? It's kind of rare finding established tournament players that play her right now, so I was really hoping to see you rock her at big events.
Sucks that character specialist is becoming less and less of a thing in favor of having an easier time but I understand. Its a competitive game and you do what you gotta do to increase the chances of winning
I respect your choice LK as many others in this comment section. Character is a tool, and you want a proper one for the job.
I use Millia as a tool to break my defensive, long range habits and improving at set plays, aggression, combos, which I was afraid to try earlier. Your attitude and analysis helped me to understand the char, so I wish you great results with Baiken or whatever you find best suited. And I am hope/sure there will be more Millia content if Arcsys change her in some way along the patches.
as far as i'm concerned you're looking for consistency and chose the character with the most fun neutral in this game to get it.

She has one of the best pokes in the game. Her weighted chain comes out of nowhere and it's hard to predict. Her move set is very straightforward but punishing. And she's smoking hot of course.

I'm very much a casual player, and I dropped Millia (and strive overall for a while) because the Mirazh cancel options came out just as I got a new job and thus a lot less time for games. But Man I just can't for the life of me do the mirazh-cancels like mirazh haircar and it just bummed me out so bad.
Remember the buffer window in the game is huge you can do buffer Mirazh preemptively in the move you choose to do before it
C.s(2) >2h >214k > 214 p.
Just mess around with doing it like half way in the 2h animation if it doesn’t come out just delay a little later till it comes out. you’ll get a feel for how early you can input 214k making it easier to 214p for haircar
