  • Alone at Angkor Wat archeological park. Well....mostly. This Unesco World Heritage site sees more then 2 million visitors a year. But come in the off-season and you might get the whole place to yourself.
We started our adventure at Ta Prohm, which is commonly called the Tomb Raider temple. The towering strangler fig trees that had grown into the temple were amazing.
We then checked out Bayon Temple with its many faces and towers.
Finally, we made it to Angkor Wat, where we had the place virtually to ourselves. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Stay with us to the end for a more indepth look at us learning new things....and some day drinking may be involved. Hope you enjoy.

At that time, France was under its control, occupying Siam in 1899. The ignorant Khmer refused to accept the fact that they were enslaved by the people. Thailand since the Ayutthaya period for 400 years. And the point is, this museum has been around for 230 years.

Thais had been living under Khmer's thumb for more the six hundred years until Thailand broke away from Khmer in 1432. They had been living under Khmer for long that they assimilated/adopted Khmer culture. Hence, their culture today is almost an exact copy of the Khmer culture, this including using 30% to 40% Khmer words in their language. All their kings were/are Mons or have/had Mon blood. Mons and Khmers are ancestrally related. This means Khmers still rule Thais to these days. It was Mons/Khmers who kicked out the Burmese armies and saved Thailand then starting ruling it ever since. And Thais have yet to appreciate Khmers and all the Khmer temples dotted across Thailand. Thais benefit from tourists visiting these temples.

The ancestral culture of Thailand and other southeast Asian countries fascinates me. To have been under control by so many different cultures but yet they have found a way to live beautifully. Thank you for making my day. 😊
