    Consider buying some steel leader that is set up with swivels and ready to go. May help you land more fish.

    So I started binge watching your content. One of the things I enjoy is the explanation of what Curtis is doing as far as sailing. Example: when he jibbed. Thx for your refreshing videos. Great stuff.

    It has always been a dream of mine to do what you are accomplishing. Unfortunately, it is not a dream I will ever be able to actualize. I’m now 73 and too physically disabled with arthritis and congestive heart failure to attempt such a venture. However, just imagine how much I enjoy your videos! They allow me to virtually experience what I cannot experience in reality. Thank you so much!

    Love it, just perfect. I'm watching Curtis gybing and adjusting the trim, thinking "he digs it - the seamanship, the craft of sailing" and sure enough just then he mentions that he really loves sailing - we could tell 🙂
    Real sailing is planning your route with the weather in mind, doing everything you can to avoid the gales or being becalmed, making good speed while keeping everything within the safe capabilities of both crew and vessel. Basking in the glory when you get it right - which you both certainly did on this stretch!

    Watching your sailing skill's, I could see you being a helmsman or tactician on an AC 12m. I know that's 4 or more decades back when mono hulls ruled, also, in your video we mentioned another yacht was closing. I believe you said something like "that's not going to happen".... Outstanding tm

    Enjoy watching, we moved from Thistle racing to cruising in a Irwin 43 years ago and now are gunk-holing in a RV. Our years of cruising made for a easy transition as the workings of a RV are not much different than a boat.

      Hello Richard! Great to hear from you. Kate did much thistle racing in the Midwest and remembers the boat fondly, especially the bruises, but also the camaraderie of the class. Enjoy the RV life, essentially the sailboat of the terra. Cheers!

    As former racers do you still find yourselves tweaking the sails, trim for every bit of speed or way made good or are you happy to set, trim and just chill while you go?
    I was a constant tweaker, 30 years of racing. Sailcatreality.

    • @SailingSweetRuca
      @SailingSweetRuca  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Grant. Good question! We are pretty good at getting the boat to targets quickly, once there, we chill for a bit until conditions change. We do back it down sometimes. We have a long way to go, so no need to push the boat so hard into the racing world of undue wear or breakage.

    Another great video. Loved the team work on sail changes. Then Curtis doing it on his own. Roxy fussing at the birds and the banter about the whales. The video editing is amazing. I am wondering though as a non-sailor. Do you all have periods of being able to just relax and enjoy the ride or is it pretty much constant sail changes every so often. Looking forward to the next video. Yall keep having fun and stay safe.

    • @SailingSweetRuca
      @SailingSweetRuca  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Happy Sunday! Good question! Sometimes we can totally chill and enjoy the ride. Sometimes we sail fast just for enjoyment. Sometimes it can be challenging and there is no sleep. It is completely random.

    You might want to consider some smaller solar panels on your rails. That is basically all I have on my Catalina 30 and they work pretty well. I also had a question, what are those lines you guys use to hold down your sheets? What are they called? I sometimes get a good bit of lift on our Genoa and something like that for my boat might be an option. I'd like to do some research on the idea but I don't know where to start. ....Oh one last thing, it kinda looks like you folks lost a Mahi on this video. If you get a fish on like that you've just got to slow the boat down. You had to at least be going five knots and that'll take a fish right off the line. In fact as fast as your boat might go pretty much all the time fishing has got to be pretty hard to get anything but Barrauda. Most of the really good fish are down about 200ft, and your boat speed is going tojust surf your lures. Some fish like Tuna do come up at certain times of day, so they might be able to hit the lures then....but Barracuda must be the fish of the day pretty often for you three. There are apps and websites which can tell you how much weight and boat speed you need to reach fish in the area.

      Here is the link for the Antal hook www.antal.it/eng/194_hooks_en we have thought about rail mounted solar, glad to hear they work well. It was a beutiful Mahi, bummer to lose it. Good fishing tips!!

    Love your sailing VLOG! And I really love what you’ve done to your J-46! Beautiful boat. Can I ask you a quick question? Thank you for the close up of the tack fitting for your Asym. What is that block attached to? I’m trying to do a similar setup on our Delphia 40 with out having to use a pole. Thanks!!!!!!

    • @SailingSweetRuca
      @SailingSweetRuca  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff. Thanks & you're welcome! The block is attached directly to the anchor roller/stem fitting (on this boat it is all one piece). Works great, but we do wish it could be extended further forward at times. Hope that helps.

    Is it the camera, or is your map upside down? if so, why?

    • @SailingSweetRuca
      @SailingSweetRuca  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kind of. The map is oriented to the boats direction. In this case we are headed south-ish, so it looks upside down. Good eye ;-)

    Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7)
    For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
    The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalms 34:18)
