I wanna say, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I stumbled upon one of your videos that talked about focusing on a subject, and it helped me so much. I love taking pictures, I'm known for it in the family and I was extremely discouraged because I haven't been getting clear shots of the subjects and I played around and around with my camera, even considered buying a new one cause I thought mine could possible could be broke, so need to say I didn't find joy in it anymore, but after seeing your video, I grabbed my camera and chased my cat around the house taking pictures of her and she was in focus.. I am absolutely floored and back to being excited about taking pictures again!! Thank you so so much!!
Hi like the video as it is helpful thanks. But what about if you are shooting the children inside your home. Do you use a flash on top of the camera and then continuous shooting wouldn't work. Have you got a video on what to do when photographing children indoors? I am now going to look at your other videos.
although watching this 6 years later from the release date, this is an amazing video. love the 3 tips and will give those a try with my children. keep up the great owr!
I don't have kids, but I reckon these photography tips would work for taking photos of pets too! Your videos are so informative David, thanks so much for filming them for all of us to see ☺
Loved all the tips. Continuous shooting was a new one for me and the lens choices was an area of interest for me. I definitely believe in having an arsenal of lenses to fully tell the story you want to tell in a post. But if I had to pick my favourite lens out of the ones you showed me, it would be the 20mm or similar. I like having background context. Keep up the great work, David!
Thanks for the helpful tips and info! I would assume that you probably also take photos with your phone as well? Are there any tips that you would have for taking photos of your kids using your camera on your phone? I often have my phone more at the ready than I do a camera. Thanks! I also saw someone ask for tips on photo editing. I would enjoy a video on that as well! You do a wonderful job at explaining this in a manner that is easy to understand!
To be honest I don't use my phone for a lot of photos, unless they are just for snapchat, or family selfies, or quick shots of the kids. When I do it, i'm at the mercy of the capabilities of the camera and much of the time, that's determined by the quality of lighting. If conditions are perfect, you can get great pictures, but they'll never take the place of a good camera. Hope this helps.
Continuous shooting! Thank you David! I attempted to take photos of my 18 month old daughter for Christmas and it was pretty silly. Can't wait to try these tips out. :)
I found this video really useful for the lens choices however my pictures are still blurry. I have the Canon 600D with the kits lens, and I also have the 50mm lens, I always shoot on continuous shooting but I still get blurry limbs etc and the shutter isn't as quick. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong please. Thank you so much
It's a "value" lens so it's a little on the cheap side, plastic mount etc, but it's surprisingly a great lens for the price. Hard to find an f/1.8 lens at that price anyway where. The 1.4 and 1.2 are obviously much better but at 5 or 10 times the price.
Hi Liliana, can you define your budget more specifically? Are you interested in learning photography or having something simple that you can kind of just point and shoot?
Hi Paige, it's going to be greatly determined by your budget because a good lens like that can vary from $100 to $200. I'd be happy to answer your question more specifically if you can give me an idea of how much you can spend?
I actually prefer one shot. I don't like the camera telling me what it thinks is best;) But one thing i like is shooting with rear button focus, not the half depress of the shutter. I like separating the two actions. That way at least you get the benefit of being able to focus and recompose, like you do with ai focus. Every camera is different but in order to change that, you'll need to find the button layout on the camera settings. It definitely takes some getting used to Amber hates it because she always forgets, but just an idea. Hope this helps.
Hey, great question, however the answer isn't anything amazing. I've invest in pretty expensive under water housing for my Canon 5d mark iv. It's a dive housing, an expensive rig that allows you to submerge up to 200 ft. With that, you have the full functionality of your camera within. They make systems for pretty much any camera, and each housing is camera specific. There are a variety of brands that make these kinds of housing, like aquatech, SPL, but I wanted something that was rated for greater depths so I went with ikelite. From there, it's just making sure you have a good set of fins and a mask and playing with your camera under water. It's SO much fun. Hope this helps!
you are so great at explaining your tips in an understandable way! great to see the behind the scenes of your amazing photos!
LOVED this video David! Thank you for filming it!! Could you possibly do a video of how you and Amber edit your photos? 😍

What's your opinion of the Cannon 50 mil. 1.8?
It's a "value" lens so it's a little on the cheap side, plastic mount etc, but it's surprisingly a great lens for the price. Hard to find an f/1.8 lens at that price anyway where. The 1.4 and 1.2 are obviously much better but at 5 or 10 times the price.
Always make videos please! Xx
This video was so helpful!
This was great! Thanks David!!
I'm interested in buying a camera and on a budget . Can you please recommend a camera ..
Hi Liliana, can you define your budget more specifically? Are you interested in learning photography or having something simple that you can kind of just point and shoot?
Thanks for sharing. One Question: Your Instagram pictures ... don*t you use your phone for them ?
great video david!! thanks for this! ☺
What do you think the best lens is to take an outfit picture but with the background blurry
Hi Paige, it's going to be greatly determined by your budget because a good lens like that can vary from $100 to $200. I'd be happy to answer your question more specifically if you can give me an idea of how much you can spend?
The budget would provably be not over 500
This is great, Thank you!

Are you still planning on doing the video about your hair? I'm dying to see what you did, hopefully it will work for my husband too.
Sorry about the delay, just in case you haven't seen it;) th-cam.com/video/JwP5-f6oR64/w-d-xo.html
When shooting your kids do you use one shot, ai servo or ai focus?
I actually prefer one shot. I don't like the camera telling me what it thinks is best;) But one thing i like is shooting with rear button focus, not the half depress of the shutter. I like separating the two actions. That way at least you get the benefit of being able to focus and recompose, like you do with ai focus. Atticus is so adorable - Kisses from Brazil
Hi David! This may be a super difficult request but you should totally make a video on how you take photos underwater.
