The biodegradable parts are just another reason to buy from fcp if you plan on keeping the car. Over the years I've tried to stay away from anything Chinese but it's unavoidable. Before I retired, the air force brought a new uniform online. Low and behold.....made in China. One of many reasons I decided to retire. When your own government is buying from the main global threat, it's not good.

Rule of thumb: Whenever you are replacing critical parts NEVER use anything that is not OEM BMW. You may save on researching who is producing those parts for BMW and buy them directly from the OEM manufacturer (like Mahle, Lemforder etc) but thats it. No Chinesium, no nothing. If you want to buy something cheap for your car then buy a pair of ///M stickers and put them on the trunk each side :)

@@NathansBMWWorkshop I understand and I didn't mean to offend you in any way so please accept my apologies if my comment produced any negative feelings :) This was and never is my intention.
I left my comment for others as a reminder not to fix their BMWs with cheap parts where the car requires OEM or OEM supplier brand parts. Here at my place I get a lot of visits from people "a friend of a friend told him to come visit me to fix his problems" and it is always the same - cheap parts used for maintenance. And when I give them a rough estimate what its gonna cost them to put it back to normal working condition then 8 out of 10 decide to sell the car "as is" and get a different make other then BMW. At least 4 of them could have kept the vehicle if they initially decided to do the maintenance with proper parts but hey... money talks.... and at some point it simply stopped talking :) take care Nathan, love your videos 👍

Good video, thanks. I had my E39's intake mani off about 15 years ago, and it wasn't a lot of fun. At least, being that it was made of plastic, it wasn't heavy. Then a couple of years ago I ordered some Rein radiator hoses. Believe it or not, one of them was made with the alignment key set 180 degrees from where it should have been. Rein thanked me for calling it to their attention and sent me another hose. I[ll bet that was an expensive mistake for them. Today I'm dealing with the fact that my E39 M52TU car can't pass smog because it has what seems to be a bad leak detection pump. And guess what? The part, LDP, is nowhere to be found. Dealer has it back ordered until at least the middle of March, and aftermarket supply seems exhausted as well. That March ETA is for its arrival in Germany, probably from China. They really don't want us driving older cars, despite how little they pollute. The recycled plastic is OK to make a fleece jacket from, but engine parts?!!! Thanks again. Cheers.

I get this is likely not in the realm of many viewers here, but my career in geopolitics and economics shows degloblization is a real and growing trend. China labor costs have gone up 1,200% in the past 10 years. The CCP pays private companies to keep their prices low which only adds to the countries unmatched, historic indebtedness. Many parts manufacturing will be moving to US friendly countries in south east Asia, particularly Vietnam. With massive Chinese supply chain issues I know for a fact that capital asset manufacturers such as cars, construction equipment and high dollar healthcare technology are in Mexico doing specs on moving component and parts manufacturing there to more closely be within a road trip of the US’s big chip manufacturing sites and final assembly plants. Most new chip plants are all throughout AZ and Texas. China is about to have the largest economic collapse of a country in human history and many companies are sourcing their supply chain out of there ASAP for fear of disruptions and state seizure of private assets. Many of my colleagues believe China will not even be a country in 10 years.

Just as an FYI, I've done this job a couple of times and removing the entire intake manifold isn't necessary for this job, same goes for the fuel rail.
Best to just disconnect everything else and swing up it and out of the way - I've been using shop rags to tie the manifold up to a higher point (like the bonnet strut for example) that gives more than enough clearance to do this job.
Just my two cents. Otherwise, great tutorial.
