This movie is deep. It's not rushed....no heroes...no special effects. It's beautiful. It's complicated. A wandering story with no real point....like life. An absolutely flawless delivery of lines coupled with perfect facial expression. They don't do this anymore. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Always been one of my favorite films. Coppola does such an exquisite job of showing the inescapable passage of time…and Mickey plays the misfit perfectly.
I go nuts when people don't understand what this movie is about. I never hear anybody explaining the subplot. The Siamese fighting fish are in a tank and they have to be separated from each other or they will kill each other because they're trapped in a tank and protecting their turf, but when the motorcycle boy takes the fish and puts them in the river, they don't fight. So he tells Rusty James to take the motorcycle and follow the river clear to the ocean. The motorcycle boy is freeing rusty James thus saving his life.
MICKEY'S MY BOY......love this dude ever since I saw him in 9 1/2 weeks waaaaaaay back in high-school in the mid-80's. Combination of smoldering screen presence, swag and subtle if somewhat conflicted inner-world have always made mickey special. Maybe closest comparison........
