      Yes, a great game. My wife and I played it several times. It's a game that we don't want to play all the time, but that is nice to play from time to time.

    Fun fact- Akatiri was a city on the island of Santorini whose volcanic explosion doomed the Minoan civilization and may have been the impetus for the story of Atlantis!

    I love that you play/showcase older and hidden gem games rather than only the latest hyped things. I have learned so many awesome games from you and been able to make such better informed decisions. The more I watch your channel the more I truly love and appreciate what you do. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What an amazing teach... I really enjoyed the pace and editing, you two are such masters of your craft, it is so entertaining and impressive to watch. Now I want this game!! Just noticed your 20k too... that is incredible growth that is not at all surprising, a huge congratulations from us both and thanks for being such wonderful role models & friends ❤

    bought a used copy at essen22 and I've only got myself and you to blame :) The way you teach and play games really hits it for me. A great job and I'm here rewatching to refresh the rules before getting it to the table for the 1st time. Thank you and keep up the great work.

    I picked this up from a co-worker who was getting rid of it a couple months ago, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thank you for this excellent video, really gives a good sense of how the game plays (you guys always do a great job). You all seem like you would be a lot of fun to play games with.

    I just discovered this channel, and I really enjoy the selection of games you both pick. Including this, Akrotiri. Thank you! I know you both are divided on this one, but if you ever feel like making a video for Panamax that would be awesome! ...and maybe for absolutely no other reason than there being a ship stuck in the Suez canal! 😂

    Such a great game. One of the first game’s I bought. Definitely love the puzzle of it.
    Another thing that adds to the puzzle that wasn’t mentioned in your review is the goal cards. It really adds another layer. Yeah you can place a tile to get a symbol to a certain place but you also want to try to place tiles to best help you get your goals.

    This is one of the games in my collection that I think is better and deserves a lot more love and attention than it has gotten. Being two-player only is probably part of that though I think the designers said it is possible to play 3- or 4-player by combining two sets.

    Early in my Board Game collecting I had purchased Akrotiri. My gaming group couldn't wrap their heads around the spacial aspect, so I sold it.
    I just picked it up again, because I just found it visually appealing and had to have it in my collection again. We might be ready for it now.

    Incredibly well explained and fun to watch.
    Question on the last gold scoring: 1 point/tile with temple on completed island. You did not count the islands with blue temple that shared a part with the bigger starting tile (there are two) but only counted the one island further away. Are those two excluded as they use the starter tile? Or do you only count this for the biggest island?

    I really like this game but the rulebook is *terrible*! The first time we played my boyfriend and I spent ages pouring over the rulebook trying to figure out what exactly constituted “one shipping route” and we still played it wrong. Luckily BGG forums came to the rescue next time we played. Turned out this one rule about movement confuses a lot of people!

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh interesting, Monique is the one who reads the rulebooks. Not sure if she had trouble too, she regularly looks up things on BGG when she needs a clarification. That certainly is the one rule that can get a little wonky.

    This reminds me of “Explorers of the North Sea” but seems a little tighter and more competitive! Blocking off resources because of a mega island is definitely a factor in that game as well, except there’s no portaging. I could see this game as a good recommendation for people that liked the concept of explorers but found it too light. Might be one I’d like to try once explorers starts feeling played out!

    52:10 I think you actually scored this card incorrectly, my copy of the rules says you score for temples that are also only connected through the central Thera tile, so this would have gained an additional 9 points! Still, an amazing two player game, really interesting spatially and economically as you say. Also, I think it is really quite pretty and charming. It helps that my partner and I have been to Santorini where Akrotiri was!

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are correct in that rule, however those 3 temples are connected by a single route relative to each other.

    • @firefly38
      @firefly38 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeforeYouPlay But the goal card says "island connected only through the Thera board are not connected", and those 4 temples are connected only through the Thera board by a single route, so I think the 4 temples would have gained an additional 12 points?

  • @ivanmijacika7230
    @ivanmijacika7230 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    u guys did one of the goals cards wrong. The middle board piece doesn't count when checking if the islands are connected so all of his islands were disconnected and he should've gotten 18 points from that!

    Prefer Oracle of Delphi from Stefan Feld

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still haven't tried that one, is it similar?

    • @timstimbre9762
      @timstimbre9762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeforeYouPlay It's unlike any other Stefan Feld. It has pick up and delivery but also building statues/temples and a random generated map like Akrotiri. You're completing obejectives, so no points. It's a bit more of a race. But a Euro-racer, at that. You have a unique boat set-up choice. It nails the Greek theme much better with Gods, Demi-Gods, and even a tiny bit of fighting creatures (dice chucking). The most interesting thing about it are the main dice (consulting the Oracle) and the special player powers. It´s like Castles of Burgundy meets Mediterranean. I rank it like this Burgundy - Trajan - Oracle Delphi - other Felds

  • @shinjial
    @shinjial 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I loved the way the map unfolds during the game. Having the cards to steer the players in a certain direction is also nice, makes it more interesting for what is a pick up and deliver.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, and the way the shipping routes get created and unfold. Love the fact that you never know if you accidentally played a tile that will help your opponent. Plus... that market is magnificent!
