I had played horn IV on this piece back when I was in college, and I absolutely loved the 1st movement the most. The feeling of getting to be that fundamental voice of the group that everything builds upon just always felt amazing. The way the sound and the resolutions play out throughout it and the physical sensations of those sounds are something that'll always stick with me. Such a warmth that truly can only be delivered by horns.
Every movement is so wonderfully distinct and interesting! This horn writing is so amazing because it shows so many different styles and aspects of the horn. I wish there were more horn chamber pieces like this that really use the horn beautifully like this. And the quartet was flawless! Beautiful playing. I especially loved the 4th horn player
Nikolai Tcherepnin's Horn Quartets are gorgeously written and played in this video. All are worth a listen, but be warned... you are in danger of deeply relaxing! Five minutes is #3 - a joyful piece to hear and follow along with the score.

It sounds like you can hear them "punch in" at 3:17. The sound stops abruptly and a new take begins. On beat 2. :( And before somebody says "just enjoy the music, man!", I was trying to. That stood out like a sore thumb. By the way the best movement is the first one, you all are wrong about the third or the fifth. ;)
"I don't usually listen to Horn Music.....but when I do..." THIS HERE IS THE VERY BEST, thanks!

Me too! At some spots I forgot it was old notation and laid it out as if modern... We decided to keep a few of them 😂
@@fedeymini You can really just play the last two movements on old notation except those low Cs and Bbs at the end are pretty hard to hit.
For mobile:
1. Nocturne
(0:06)
2. Ancienne chanson allemande (2:42)
3. La chasse (4:57)
4. Choeur dansé (7:03)
5. Un chant populaire russe (8:59)
6. Un Choral (12:07)
My wife and I have played these countless times with our compatriots, #3 being a favorite.

Possibly my favorite horn quartet.
This is by far the most masterful horn writing I've ever heard. Truly magnificent.
You have just made me feel better from my bad mood... really thank you.. thank you
Very impressive and nice sound, French horn is amazing, awesomely versatile. Congratulations! Bravissimo!
God that third one. SO GOOD!
Nikolai Tcherepnin is so underatted...
@Christina Park Sometimes it sounds to me like movie score...

Bonjour magnifique
I love the fifth movement!! Does anyone know how I can get the sheet music for just that movement?
imslp my friend
Wait..... In #6, the 1st horn is the "tenor" part from Bach's Sleepers, Wake?!🤯
The Number six is like the Bozza's choral in his horn quartet
これが、伊福部昭に作曲の指導をしたチェレプニンの曲ですか。初めて拝聴しました。良い曲ですね。
若い頃 良く演奏しました❗
i always misread quarter for 6 horns and wonder where is the 5th and 6th...
Thanks, I was still looking for them... 😂
The nocturne sounds a little like some of the Beatles' songs, don't you think?
It's more like the Beatles sound little like the nocturnes
Интересный способ нотации - все знаки не при ключе, а случайные
Does anyone know where to get the sheet music for this?
Imslp have it

Who are the players?
伊福部昭先生の 師匠ですね🎵
30年位前に演奏してましたね🎵伊福部昭さんの御症😢
