Having owned them for some 40 years the comment about proper socialization is spot on otherwise they can become a real handful when it comes to controlling them. Keep in mind that they are a very independent breed, extremely smart and, at the same time, hard-headed. And they shed a lot consistently. If you want someone to play ball with, a Pry is not it. Try and you will get a look that basically says - You threw it and if you want it, go get it. OTOH they are loyal almost beyond comprehension. Great with children and other pets. They have incredible hearing and sense of smell and they BARK a lot. In an enclosed space, say your living room, it can actually be painful. But that is how they 'protect'. First they warn an approaching predator to back off, and if that doesn't work, all hell can literally break out.
I have a Pyr/border collie mix, 73#….not biddable like my previous BCs….she’s moody, independent, tolerates everyone/everything w/grace/dignity. She is mentoring my Malinois/Anatolian mix in ways that I could not have conveyed! She is my emotional support animal….i am so lucky to have gotten them from our local shelter!! Someone’s throw away dogs are my protectors, hiking buddies, best friends.

The trash man will pet my GPs…unless the kids are outside. Then he won’t even get out of his truck. They are fearless protectors and will wipe out an entire pack of coyotes
Don’t like this video at all! Way too encouraging for ignorant dog shoppers to get a big fluffy dog they can’t handle. This is a serious working breed that needs to be respected not destroyed by becoming popular like all the other breeds we Americans have already wrecked. This irresponsible video doesn’t mention that this is the most abandoned breed in the USA % wise.
