York was our 2nd home next to Maple Grove every year from '65 to '79. We took our '69 Camaro Good Vibrations there many a weekend.
Pro Stock & Funny Cars doing dry hops. Garlits, Muldowney, Prudhomme, Sox & Martin, the Grump. The best of the best of the best came to York. It was a sad day when she closed. Things were never the same after.. . . . memories

Was there every Saturday night in the summer of '70. What a rush. Saw Roland Leong's Hawaiian and The Blue Max car. Used to be able to back the truck right up to the guardrail, open the cooler, and plop down in the lawn chair 3/4ths of the way down the track. Great rushes and memories. What a place it was. K.

Wow, guess I never knew Jungle Jim was a Pro Stock racer before he got into match racing funny cars! Interesting.
Supposedly from the 50's and 60's, yet we see Grumpy's Toy and Jungle Jim's '70's Vegas!! Never knew Grumpy and Jim had time travel machines!!

I went to my first drag race there in 1966. Went on many Saturday nights from 1968 through 1971. Usually when they had a match race booked in. Went to a couple of the Funny Car Nationals and the AHRA Summernationals in 1971. I got to see alot of the greats. The last race I attended was in 1976. Does anyone remember when they stopped racing there? Cool video. Thanks for posting!

My dad and uncle had a 19654 GTO called UNDERDOG it did very well at York and National speedway. They went just about every weekend from 65-72 and very rarely have I ever seen footage. They even held the national record with the car in 69 at national speedway. Curious if you ever heard or seen the car.

My Dad raced there throughout the late 60's and 1970's. His car was a 55 Chevy called The Gold Digger. It was Hemi powered with Hilborn injectors. Ran in Modified Eliminator. He was also the main wrenchman for Bob Widmeyer for several years. .

I visited the York track regularly in the late 70's. I would love to find clips of the night the "Spirit of 76" came apart I think it would have been in 76. The next time I saw Sam Miller, he was driving the "Vanishing Point"
I remember seeing many of the greats there, and being in the pits and able to meet and talk with drivers and pit crews, although I wish I had taken more pictures then I did, but still enjoy digging out the old album and looking through the shots I do have.

Wow, to see Jungle Jim Liberman racing at U.S. 30 dragway. When I was a kid my mom would stop at Steve Kanuka's speed shop on U.S. 202 on the way to Wilmington so me and my brother could look at his Vega funny car.

Dear Jim, SOMEWHERE in my collection of films is about a thousand feet of 16 mm color and perhaps 10 times that much 8mm and super 8 shot at races all over PA and NY. My uncle Jake was a great photo buff. He wrenched and drove stockers, loved sprint cars, hill climbs and 1/4 mile drags. He was active from the early 1950s to 1979. I continued the tradition and in 1968 bought a Bolex super 8 camera and shot a lot of Kodachrome and high speed Ektachrome up until I bought my first Beta machine. I'll start looking this Winter and see what I can find. I am more than a little surprised at the amount of interest in silent films from early drag racing. If I find anything interesting I'll give you first dibs. You are a good guy.

0:44 to 1:02 is my grandfather. that was before he did any modifications to the car. The creepy thing is that he said he never raced there, but how the driver looks he looks eerily like my grandfather. right down to the glasses. The car also looked like it speed shifted which he used to do in his Chevy. I get chills every time I watch that guy.

Some of it the matching sound and some is dubbed in. Hard to tell which is and which is not isn't it? In any event we think it is better than a music track.

Why were they brushing tire black On the tread area of the slicks?
Was that to stop the slicks from picking up pebbles and rocks on the way from the pit to the Bleach box?
