I refused to go out in the boat that year. I was a SLS at Belinga Qld I Quit Surf life saving after this race, I noticed there were no mentions of surf life savers that refused to go in the water. Rest In Harmony Saxon 🌊
that's such a sad story, like the interviewer said a cancellation on the day would be gotten over with quickly but saxon died, and the slack attitude of slsa showed it was all really about dollars and sponsors on the day feel for the sad, but so dignified ,parents.
Thanks for sharing. Shame on Surf Life Saving Australia. I hope the likes of Grant Baldock never forget that they had the power to avoid Saxon's death.
What a bloody disgrace. I had to watch twice just to get a real grip on the atrocious conditions and the way SLS were malicious and definitely to blame for the death of this beautiful young man. Thoughts are with his family. RIP
What a Shame. Such a Loss. All for WHAT? BAD CALL & Bad DECISION MAKING for the officials. I watch Bondi Beach Lifeguards daily. Saxon would have been THE BEST AT WHATEVER He did. R.I.P. & God Bless.
They are sociopaths, utter selfish, greedy cowards. In the minutes recorded in Surf Life's debrief a few days after his death, they gave ZERO mention of Bird's death. They did however mention how good the catering was, toilets etc, how well the event went, they are insane.
@@MattyLoves91frfr Oh hell no they did not. Those minutes should have been FULL of talk about how they failed, how they could have done better, how to prevent this in the future and how they will take responsibility for their actions. Instead they continued to be absolute trash beings and I second the comment above that says they should face a murder charge.
It always amazes me how officials can see as plain as day that the conditions were really bad to go ahead with the race but no they just went ahead with it anyways. 🙄 Life is precious and it gets me that sponsors $$$ is worth more than a humans life. His poor parents and siblings to have to be there watching this unfold I hope there’s a lawsuit going on and I hope his parents win it!!
I agree with you. I’m a surf life saver and there have been days when I’ve got to the beach to race abs not gone in the water as I didn’t feel comfortable going out in the conditions.
Was this necessary? Like the father said: There is a difference between tough and stupidity. Why didn't the parents stop their son on that day. Why everyone embrassed stupidity over commom sense. To hell with sport if it overlooks threat to human life.

SLSA clearly failed in their duty of care for competitors. Participants safety was "paramount" remember.

A sickening tale of arrogance. But for the failure of SLSA to not act reasonably and not stop the competition Saxon is dead.

I agree.
They did it to respect him. I wouldn't like it if someone talked about me after I died. But I understand what you mean.

A Barrister would know... legally how does SLSA responsibly serve alcohol on a beach where a person then goes for a swim intoxicated 🙄😂🙄
This is so sad.. :(
Poor boy so sad 😞
Ultimately its the competitors decision.
Nodoby threatens them to race
Rigjt but he was just a young kid
