Thanks Alex for bringing Andy's story to a broad audience. Every single American should hear these stories directly from those involved. We owe it to them. We owe it to ourselves.
Yup; you put it well.
Do you mean to tell me you found out in that first firefight even though you're a MARINE, you're NOT a robotic killing machine? You're a feeling human being? Dog, as a fellow Marine from a much earlier era, it's refreshing to hear. I wish more Devil Dogs could be that honest. Semper Fi!
Love this comment
@@chillmonkey6782 Thanks man.
Semper Fi!!!
Thank you for serving for all us.
@@dallynsrIt was my honor!
Great description of a world most of us will (hopefully) never know.
?? When World War 3 is just around the corner with Hamas & Israel's war, Russia's intrusions & nuclear capabilities plus the advent of Hypersonic Missles, North Korea's spy satellite surveillance of the White House & China's Navy surpassing in number over US, and the conflict in the South Pacific, let alone their numerous Spy Balloons over the US and their Attack Simulations over US military bases. Be Ready Always...we might need everyone since China's population alone outnumbers our population mass...
Think EVERYONE is going to know. When China invades!
I have so much respect for our marines. Especially after watching my nephew join and go to Afghanistan twice. He was a spoiled brat until he became a marine. Now he's extremely disciplined, respectful and successful. Thanks to all of our Marines. 🇺🇸
Thank you, Andy, for your bravery, both in the field on here at home.
Good to know that it's a correct response to be scared out of my wits of actually being on a 2 way range, regardless of any knowledge or training I have.
I strive to have the bearing and fortitude of these men. Outstanding storytelling and editing. Thank you to Alex and the team for sharing these stories.
2 way range. Never thought of it like that.
Incredibly brave to tell it how it is in front of a camera. Hope you're doing OK Andy and that in due time you'll never feel again that you need to prove anything out of guilt over an inherently human reaction to an absurd and life threatening situation. So glad that Alex is willing to show these stories, so we never forget what price people actually pay when called upon to fight and put their lives on the line.
I only served as a conscript infantryman in another NATO army (also on the M240 yet we called it MAG) back in the 1980ies and always wondered how I'd behave under fire. I imagine I would have been just as struck by shock and indecision before someone would bring me back to my senses.
I so hope that what sticks to you in due time, is that you had and hopefully have brothers you can rely on, then and now. I'd say the only true measure of a man's character are his best friends.
Luckily, being a navy man, no-one ever shot at me [except in shore party training, which is pretty safe.] ;-)
For us, the enemy is almost never seen, it's very impersonal compared to this.
Also, we have a large machine which carries all our stuff & no mud. Thanks for bringing us Andy's story Alex.
lol
Love the forces rivalry taunts you all do. Keeps it real.
Thank you for your Navy service.
Thank you.
"I remember turning to run and I knew I was gonna die."
Not my dad's first action as a USGI combat infantry rifleman but I am sure that is what he felt and thought as after three days spent with his squad in a beet field pinned down by an MG42 and on the third day getting up and withdrawing knowing they were going to die. Most of his squad did die but by the Grace of God he survived with only his web belt shot off. Thanks, Andy.
Semper Fi Brother. Fellow 1st Bn 5th Marines here as well.
No better friend, no worse enemy!
Deployed with 1/5 to Baghdad in 03 & Fallujah in 04.
Thank you, im disabled and not good at doing things but hearing you talk about pushing yourself and striving to learn and be meaningfully contributing to others helps to make me want to work harder to be better than I am
Thank you for your service
Semper Fidelis Marine and thanks for telling us about your experience in battle. [USMC]
Thank you for sharing, and for serving. You obviously have done a lot of work looking back and processing what you went through. Not many people could put that into words so eloquently as you.
Amazing recollection. Thanks for making it back Marine.
That was just excellent, particularly the last part… something people struggle with, for sure.
All I can say is thank you for your service and for sharing. I'm sure there are other veterans that can use your experience also.
Nothing but respect for this Marine.
Thank you. Sincerely.

Your content get's better and better. This may be the best content you've done so far.
Thank you
Alex, thanks for getting these stories out to us. For Andy, thanks both for your service and the courage to tell your story. This. Was. Sobering.
Brother I’m happy you are home with your family! Some days I feel the same way you feel about your fellow brother I feel about my deceased twin girls. Keep your head up brother!
Thanks for your humility and courage. I'll be sharing your testimony with my teenage boys. Stay strong brother.
Very much a shared feeling that moment I realized my face was in another human`s sight.
i hope you can get more guys to tell their first time stories. very interesting. thanks for sharing
Chillingly fascinating , you are torn to be there in that band of brothers and fighting for your life . Wow 😮
Semper Fi Andy, I am an ex-grunt and my wife doesn't understand my issues (Alcoholism) I did three tours overseas. I am going to make her watch this so she understands that I am not a exaggerating what went on. Thank you my friend!
Thank God for men like that! This is a better world because there here!!!
I often think about the things my grandfather went through and how embarrassed he was to talk about WWII. He just carried that stone around until he died. The young people we send into combat deserve to be understood, at least as much as we can understand. Telling your story and hearing your struggle and humility, you show immense bravery. To let us in on the feelings and thoughts that you carry around with you does another kind of service to your country. Thank you for all you have seen and sacrificed!
This is such an important video. We need to let guys on the ground know that it's ok to talk about how literally the most dangerous and scarything they will ever do has affected them. Mental health problems and ptsd are real and they are no joke. They're as deadly as any battlefield
I hope Andy reads some of these comments. Never have I heard a more honest account of someone's feelings fighting an enemy and how the internal struggle feels like. Wow! Thanks so much Andy for sharing. I never served in the military but was only days from going to Viet Nam. I can see myself going through similar feelings as you. We owe you a lot for keeping us free and being there while we are here. I admire your courage and honesty.
If our world leaders had your integrity and honesty there would be no need for war. RESPECT.
They will always be war
This was amazing.
Thank you for telling your story.
Thank you for your service.
Great video.
Video Editor: If you're taking votes, I vote against adding static artifacts to still photos. We tolerated scratched old film when there aren't better options. I never understand why videos purposefully degrade video or images.
Agreed. It's especially ridiculous when they black & white color footage from the 80's / 90's.
It is people like you and stories like yours that maintain my faith. Thank you and God bless you.
Wow! Dude, you look like and sound like many Vietnam veterans. Those guys went through the shit.
I'm sorry you had to go through the shit too. Courage is not the absence of fear, nope. It is how you deal with fear. Sounds to me like this young warrior did his job as well as any young man can.
The Allmighty walked with you that day and is still by your side. Take care brother, Semper Fi !
This is the most introspective testimony I've heard from a combat veteran of any era. Thank you for sharing it with us. Carry on & Simper Fi!
This narrative puts a PC jock (and peacetime vet) like me in the fight with an emotional and thoughtful way.
Very generous exploration of experience and thinking.
Thank you Andy for brining your story from that time and for your service. I wish more people who don't appreciate the freedom this country offers were able to hear what is required to maintain that freedom. You sir are a true hero in my book. Good luck and best wishes to you.
Please tell him thank you for sharing that information
Incredible story, well articulated. Thanks for sharing, Andy.
Thinking, feeling warfighters like Alex and Andy are force multipliers.
Excellent analysis of his 1st fire flight
Such impressive clarity of thought…
This is much more valuable than the latest news about some plane
Internal "Dissociation" & "Schism" caused by each violent engagement seems to be the at the root of PTSD.
Human beings are not just machines with on-off switches and no conscience.
Much respect from a 1/1 brother.
I was Taught as a VERY young child. The only Glory of War, is to come home!
Thank you Andy
Thanks brother Andy.....Shoe🇺🇸
Thank you Alex for Sharing , Great Video 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Wow, great article Sandboxx
Way to go Alex, great quote to use in the thumbnail......
Semper Fi brother. All is good now ❤
"You do you," but as a US citizen, I feel that there's no need for Andy to feel embarrassed by how afraid he was at the time. With hindsight, there's always something that could have been done better, but the only way to really know how you'll react in that kind of a situation is to do it. I don't need "my" Marines to be perfect nor fearless. I do need them to be able to give an "after action report" without an ego, and to learn from past mistakes. So, Andy is a good job of that in this video.
Thank God that we still generate young men like this. The contrast with the WOKE/ANTIFA/OWS/BLM buttheads is so refreshing. There may still be hope for us as a nation.
{o.o}
It never ends it stays with you
Thanks for sharing and teaching us. I'm passing it onto my son. You don't need to feel guilty. A smart man would always run from death because he is afraid. A brave man feels the same, but stays and smiles back. You need to keep reminding yourself you are back home and safe. Semper Fi!
This is incredible
Brother, been there. It’s not a values or morals thing. We Americans regardless of what some say, our western Christian views (western society is heavily influenced by them) teach us taking human life is wrong. I will say, murder is wrong, as a soldier and you a marine though, we were literally the sword of the government. It’s not our will or desire playing out.
And different people react differently in their first serious engagement, you’re only a coward if you refuse to fight, being caught off guard and momentarily stunned is not the same thing.
Having to defend yourself and fellow men against lethal force is self defense, not murder. Kicking in a door looking for a guy, doesn’t mean you’re seeking to kill anyone. Theirs a difference in being blood thirsty and being able and willing to do the job at hand following legit and lawful orders.
Bless ya bud!!
Lessons learned! Suggest you go into the Fire Dept! Right attitude, as far as im concerned!
I can't begin to find the words...
ALWAYS LISTEN to that little voice in your head or the hair on the back of your neck !
But only because you get shot, DOESN'T MEAN YOU WILL DIE!
13:15 is that the song from Sprocket? lmao
Only old tech mortars don't work well in soft ground. We already had VT (radar) fusing 81mms even when I was in 32 years ago. I think even older mechanical time fused mortar rounds would explode over head if you set the time fuse right and there were pretty slick computers that even light infantry battalion mortar platoons had those too.
Good thing that's our equipment and not theirs?
Respect.
Red Badge of Courage
Semper Fi!!!!
I hope talking about this stuff helps. Thank you.
we owe these men and woman more than our thanks. pay for their meal gas food if the opp arises . It means more to them then you may think and more then they will show . It may help one struggling though his or her day.
To what extent could non stealthy fighter aircraft overcome an enemy's advantage of stealth by using missiles with higher speed? In this case their missiles would be launched later (after target lock) in the fight but by having a speed advantage they would still be effective in hitting the more stealthy aircraft.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sorry it is 54 F-35 not 554 - SORRY ABOUT THAT, Sandboxx!
Roger
Why are his arms and hands different colour?
every soldier, marine has the same thoughts when the 💩hits the fan. don't ever think of yourself as not worthy of the respect you have earned. I felt the same way during the 1st gulf war 1991. if it doesn't affect you you are not human. Semper fi marine
Glad you made it home. Semper Fi Devildog -3D LAR
I was scared, Shit scared when I was knowingly going into my first live fire "contact" but fortunately my training took over and muscle memory did the rest...
liar
@@THE-X-Force sure, I’m so fortunate you replied and obviously know best… and that I don’t give a F$&k what you think so that’s works… Cheers!
Can we get these odd balls a channel of their own? We are only here for Alex
this guy needs to understand that atonement has an ending, or it isnt being understood
he's alive, he's fine, move on

In your video 1 year ago about American F-35s encounter chinese J-20s over the Pacific and you ranked 9 out of 10 nations that fly the F-35. Your list is wrong. At number 4 you said that Norway had ONLY 34 F-35 BUT we bought 54 F-35 so we are number 3 with 554 F-35 on your list, not Australia with 44 F-35
I just saw that video so i9 knew i had to correct you, since i am from Norway, on this.
As you your self say: "It is very important to have the correct data".
Well, here it is. We bought 4 test planes of the F-35 and then 50 of the F-35.
This was a big deal in Norway.
The F-35 has a norwegian developed missile as a standard missile that comes with it when you buy one.
The americans was so impressed with the norwegian developed missile that the american made it a standard equipment for ALL F-35.
No matter what.
Sincerely Roger from Norway
You make great videos, Sandboxx
Jesus Christ
Who cares?? You don’t see the taliban fighters complaining about PTSD..
Shut up bro
Thoughtful and sincere - pity trump would not umdetstand😢
first
One takeaway is that’s it’s insane to me for him to have had a 20+ pound 240, and an m4, and enough weight on his back that he needed assistance to get up. Seems absolutely unacceptable.
That was wonderful, and from the bottom of my civilian heart, I thank this Gentleman for his service.
❤🤍💙
