My surgeon absolutely gave me my life back. He is my hero on earth. I was up and walking like this gentleman the next day. Fused L4-S1 and the pain I suffered with for more than 6 years and bedridden for 1 was gone! I’m 2 months post operation and I wake up with thanks and gratitude every day. I can cough and sneeze like a normal person without fear. I can stand up straight and now there is no use for this cane or walker that were my ever present companions before I just couldn’t walk or stand more than 5 minutes anymore . I’ve never had surgery in my life and my worries were great but it went absolutely textbook and I just marvel at how wonderful it is to not have pain at the front of your mind every single day.

Yes. I had this same surgery a couple weeks ago and got up just like that guy did and walked around. I felt pretty good also but mustve still had anesthesia and drugs left in me because the next day i felt like i got hit by a bus and every day has been the same for past 2 weeks. The pain is gradually becoming less but still 2 weeks in and i cannot get a decent sleep because of the pain
I’ve had this surgery. I was 4 days in a bed, hooked up to drips and a catheter before I was helped out by three people. It was the most painful op I’ve ever had. It took several more days at home before I could walk properly, and several weeks to seem more normal, although the pain eased quite quickly once I got moving. 4 years later and I am having a spinal fusion extension as the above disc has gone completely. I’m dreading it, as I remember the pain.
Sorry to hear about your experience. There are many factors that are related to a successful outcome. We can only go by our experience and techniques. All surgery should be carefully considered. Our patients were all treated by a highly experienced surgeon using advanced techniques. We have not been able to keep up with the video uploads but all are genuine patients.

@@777truths are you serious. I go in 2 days for fusion of l5 s1. As of right now I can still run 3 miles a day and be active, I just can’t stand his leg pain and back pain every day. But actually I’m happy. If this surgery makes me worse I’m gonna lose my damn mind

I had L4-L5-S1 fused 5 years ago. One year later, the disc above ruptured and had that fused. The I fell and the pelvis/hip fractured where the bone graft was harvested to use in the first fusion. Had the left S-I fused (that’s a gnarly procedure). And then The disc above ruptured and this time I have a fusion from the lateral oblique approach. Each surgery has been “successful” in that it alleviates my symptoms but not on the long haul.
The first time I got up after surgery; I was dizzy, spinning counter clockwise, broke out in a cold sweat and my blood pressure dropped. They put me back down, gave me an EKG and hooked up an IV. After a few days, I was able to get up without the drop in BP.

They made me get up within hours of surgery and I remember that bp drop all to well. I know it’s been a while since this comment but it’s always interesting to read about people’s experiences. I had spinal fusion at 17 for scoliosis, in 2008 there was only open ones available no minimally invasive ones that I’m aware of. I’ve got a scar the entire length of my back till around L5. It was brutal, now I have to get another smaller open fusion and I’m freaking out that I’m not going to be able to handle it.
Wow my husband had surgery a week ago and even with pain meds he is in excruciating pain.
That’s sad to hear. Hope he’s doing better now. My back is shot and I’m "only" 40.

Dang I just turned 30 I will be having L3-S1 not looking forward to the recovery phase... but I'm sure the king run it will benefit me more than sticking with a life long pain or potential paralyzation...
I’m a 62 year old male. I’ve been athlete every day for 45 yrs. I’ve had 3 spine fusions. Get ready for pain. Most will not prescribe much any more. Everyone is a criminal now. I had 5 level fusion & several things done at same time. They gave me Oxy-10 X 4 a day. It did nothing
@@mikequinn7223 you are correct sir. My husband is still in pain. Surgery doesn’t seem to really relieve the pain. It’s been hard finding a pharmacy that will prescribe narcotics no one wants to prescribe them.
Congrats but I suspect the nerve blocker was still in effect, you already bent down and twisted which is a NO NO for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery when the Dr clears you after examining your the X-Ray to confirm the fusion of the pedicle screw to the bone. I hope you didn't experience any difficulties afterwords, kindly share if all went well at the end and how are you feeling now? I'm having L4/L5/S1 fusion operation identical to yours planned in 8 weeks time and I will be interested to know, thanks.
Had fusion surgery June 3, 2022 as I could Hadly walk, leg hip and foot pain. One over night after 3 1/2 hr surgery. No pain except for surgical pain and didn't need or take any of the narcotics they prescribed. For two weeks in heaven and I walked like a thirty year old like the guy in the video I Am 75 now. I had Absolutely no pain. However, I did something wrong like twisting, bending, sat on toilet wrong, reached for something, rolled in bed, or something went awack and now am back to square one. Toes numb, hip pain, walking with a painful limp. Three week x-ray showed (my opinion) a partial hardware failure allowing one side to compress back together. Have to wait four months to see what can be done to fix it if anything. If someone has this procedure, take the recovery instructions seriously.
But the cage inbewteen didn't stop it from closing agine ? How did it compress
Good afternoon! What are the instructions for recovery?
My husband had this spinal fusion operation today. He also had a spinal cyst removed. The surgeon, who is top of his field, described consequences of not having the operation, so there was no option. It was loss of all lower body function, bladder, bowels, legs etc. He was six plus hours in surgery. He is hooked up to all kinds of machines and is in severe discomfort already. He is 71 years old, so no spring chicken. God knows what the next few weeks will bring. Thank God for our NHS, I cannot imagine what this operation and the superb level of care he is receiving at Stoke Royal would cost else. I thank the staff there, with all my heart, for how they are looking after him so far. He was always so fit and strong, he will have such problems adjusting. Sorry, for moaning, but I feel so helpless to help him tonight.

I have to go for L4-l5-S1 fusion.....and I am terrified....watching this gives me hope. I've suffered for 20 yrs with lower back and leg pain.....for the last 10 yrs could not feel my toes or the top of my feet. Sciatic pain getting off the couch, out of my car, from my bed.

I just had L4 to S1 ALIF & Posterior spinal fusion 3 weeks ago. I'm doing really well, I think for a 64 yr old female, with spondylolisthesis, DDD, bone spurs and herniated disc. First week was not too bad. I spent 1 night in the hospital and a week & half on prescription meds, but now just using extra strength Tylenol. Other than itchy incisions, I feel really great ❤
@@codetrend544 13 months after my surgery I was diagnosed with interspinous bursitis is in keeping with Baastrup disease. That being said I no longer have the sciatic electrical shock pain but the constant pain in my buttock and hips and numbness in my feet is hard to handle.... I appreciate fusing 3 vertebrae will limit your bending over ( I'm 6'4" tall and 64 yrs old) and not wanting to be a ballet dancer but I fully expected I would be pain free. Not fun
I just had the same procedure, maybe a little extra, since they had to remove bone spurs, I am also in my early 60's and had this problem since I was 13 and thrown from a horse, lived with it all of my life but recently yardwork became unbearable along with leg and foot pain, I am two weeks post op and still in a great deal of pain, I am moving, getting in and out of bed is the worst, I still have a bit of fluid build up and inflammation on my spine according to my surgeon, he says next summer I hopefully will be able to resume most of my yardwork, I think there are a lot of factors that can determine your recovery, age and the extent of the injury, long term wear and tear, also if other disc are ruptured.

Doctor asked me right after a decompression lumbar surgery how I was feeling I, told told him ask me in 3 days after the meds have worn off and I let you know.
Ok before the surgery a month ago I was like no wayyy anyone could. But I just did it and I got up like this. Not as fast but I was walking 4-6 hours after surgery . Definitely with a back brace, and nurses really close and a walker in front of me. 30 year old L3-S1 Fusion.
How is it now? I'm going to get the same l3-s1 surgery any recommendation like what should i do for good recovery? (I heard something like scar tissue form around the nerve that keep the pain)

I had 345 fusion last turs oct 8th, with a cyst taken out of my spine. Im 5days out and have tje pinching and radiant pulsing . csnt wait for it to get better.

I'm 10 days Post OP with my Plif of my L4-L5. I am up walking with a walker or cane. Pain has subsided or at least now my meds are helping mask the pain. Still having pain when going to sit down, stand up, roll over, and when on my feet for too long. But I will say my nerve pain had only hit once since op and that is a huge change!

I had infusion and screws and pins even had to straighten my spine some had THE BEST SURGEON the 2nd day I did get up out my bed and walked the hall everyday after that also and did very well BUT... Also needed needed my pain meds STILL

I’m having lumbar spinal fusion surgery May 18. I’m very familiar with Dilaudid but it wears off every 20 minutes. Morphine works better for me

surgery it didn't work then I had the alif spinal fusion surgery my movements are not the same anymore the alif spinal fusion surgery gave me nerve damage know I have crps in my lower right leg I advise anyone make back surgery your last option truly try other methods first

I had lumbar laminectomy and fusion in September and I am still recovering and not walking like that still
Trust me the next day or day two he was not doing that. They get everyone up now especially with the OLIF technique but trust me he was under the influence of some medication and the trauma and stiffness had not set in after a day or two of being still. Remember everyone is different and why would they showcase someone who was bed ridden and in agony post-op?
I was up and walking around the whole 6th floor of the hospital the day after my L4-L5 fusion. Today is the 8th day post surgery and I will be walking at least 5 miles today broken up into 2 or 3 segments. Pain free. Best decision I ever made. Follow my progress at Grow Zone Fitness and Nutrition. Lots of before videos to compare where I was before to now as we video my progress.
I have a torn disc and a ruptured disc, and I been living with this for years. You think that's good enough to consider surgery
@@murdaapolis612 I had degenerative disc disease and L4 and L5 or rubbing against each other. I couldn't live with the pain any longer. I'm only 52 years old and I have a lot of life left in me and I couldn't do my job or live my life in the kind of pain I was in. After going through it hell yeah I would opt for surgery. It changed my life. But everybody is going to be different. My pain is 100% gone and I have no physical restrictions. It's been 8 weeks post-op and I'm back at work doing my physical job and I've been back in the gym for about 3 weeks.

I just had the same procedure, S1 L5 fusion, cage, rods and screws from Degenerative Disc Disease and I'm day 3 recovering still using a walker. At 45 years old, same body build as him. How is he walking without any assistance?

@@sheilamilliken9642 I’m glad to hear that you are doing well from the surgery. I have been trying to learn as much as I can from everybody on TH-cam. I put off surgery as long as I could. I first injured my lower back on a turnaround at the Exxon Chemical plant in Baton Rouge when I was 36 yrold. Long story short Exxon made me take a disability with 16 years of service. I rehabilitated myself through exercise and all which took a number of years and went through two police academies, the second when I was 47, and retired from Baton Rouge Police Department at 62 yrold and shortly thereafter started having lower back pain. I had my surgery on Oct. 13, 2022 at 72 yrold. I’m hoping to have good results, I don’t smoke, drink or chew or go with the girls that do. I have several motorcycles and my main hobby is drag racing, so I’m waiting to see how limited I will be. My dragster is easy to get in and out it’s all the other loading and unloading that wears me out. I guess I will see in time.

I got got the Abbott spine stimulator implant it deff. Help 1st 5 days were the worst.I use it daily.
Why not doing disc replacement instead of fusion?
Technology and success rate not really that good with artificial discs replacement. As far as I know at least.
what will be limitations on body after full recovery? can be bend, can carry waight, can sit relax (without posture maintaing restriction)
I’m having L3-L5 spinal fusion surgery next Tuesday and I am completely, utterly terrified the closer it gets. I keep hyperventilating and breaking out in cold sweats and dizziness from nerves. Can anyone recommend a relaxation tactic they used prior to having the same surgery?
The anesthesiologist will give you something before surgery for Anxiety. I had an attack that morning AFTER I found out I wouldnt be going home. You will be fine!! I Was NOT up like this guy after 2 hours, it was painful AS HELL and needed a bedside commode. Good Luck. I am now fully 1 month post-op
I just got it a week ago , all went well , I went back home the next day not remembering anything, make sure you take your pain meds when sent back home. Try to make small walk each time a little more every day, after one week , no pain just the left side some soreness and tingling because of cut from surgery. Be patient everything will workout fine , just have faith in your higher self that you can do it. 💪

Okay, they did "surgery" to one location L5/S1. How does this parallel people going in for multiple lumbar repairs at the same time? They need to line up people with the typical range of surgical repairs. Then do a cross section of each. So, if you had 15 -20 post op reports, from one specific surgeon....that MIGHT be GENERALLY indicative? Just my lay curiosity suggesting this is a unrealistic promo piece.

This is not an accurate portrayal of someone just after spinal fusion. Good on this guy if it’s real but anyone about to have the operation should not be fooled into thinking this is how it will go. I’ve had this surgery 4 days ago and it’s beyond sore. It will be fine I’m sure but I certainly haven’t been able to do what ‘superman’ here has done…

This video is 100% ego driven by the surgeon. I have had 4 surgeries to fuse a total of 6 ruptured discs. I have a top notch surgeon. This is totally unrealistic. I’ve had success and walked soon, but healing takes time, no matter how skilled the surgeon purports to be.
I just had the exact same procedure on Oct 13, 2022, ten days ago and I have had similar results. My only problem is that I have been on very strong medication for almost ten years and I have such high resistance and had to have morphine in the hospital.
@@KLR_FML I looked exactly the same in the hospital the day after surgery with morphine in my system, after leaving the hospital I have hurt a lot due to my high resistance to pain medication after being on the heavy meds almost ten years. I am ten days out from my surgery and finally felt pain reduction yesterday.
I need Cervical 2-5, then thorassic 4 discs, then Lumbar 3-4, then hip. 3 year process? If infections or anesthesia does not kill me? Stop the world I want to get off.

There are many ways in which Lumbar Fusion is performed. We normally use the TLIF technique with specialised equipment which avoids muscle damage and recovery is usually quick. Not sure where your procedure was performed but it is likely you will continue to improve as it can take 3 months to recover using traditional techniques.

Just has S4 to L1 and it was about $140k, I think. I haven't seen all the statements from insurance, but my deductible was paid, so no cost to me, thankfully. 3 weeks out and doing great.

I am not sure what type of surgery you had, but if it was lumbar fusion similar to this procedure and surgery went according to plan then it is likley to improve over the next few weeks and months.

@@jorgerivera1664 I am also a commercial truck driver and it’s probably the reason my back got so bad in the first place. I had to come off the road and I was bedridden a whole year before I had the surgery. I’m 100% pain free now.

This seems absolute bullshit. I just had a fusion done 4 days ago and there is no way in hell he’s walking without a brace. It’s was so painful after surgery I couldn’t use the bathroom for two days. I was also on a “pain pump” with one of the strongest pain meds you can take.
This is bull crap..I had L4/L5 surgery..fusion surgery and a rod and 3 screws on 11/29/21..there is no way in hell I could get up like this guy..so stop the lies

@@thelondonspineunit-harleys9622 I can attest that it is possible, but due to many years, ten, of strong pain medication I have to have a lot more medication. Even my dentist couldn’t believe how much Novocain it takes to numb my jaws.

Moneymay…. Why not? I have Spondylolisthesis and nothing works for my excruciating pain! I have tried every injection, corticosteroid injections, nerve ablations, epidurals, nerve blocks and even pain meds, all which have not taken away my back pain & pain going down my legs to my knees when I walk. In fact, I can’t walk maybe more than 10 minutes or stand for 10 minutes. So I would like to know what you suggest.
@@sherh316 hi there!! Your case maybe different to mine!!! I had a smallish fracture and they decided to fuse my spine!! I think I would have been better off without but maybe your case is different
I didn’t have any choice, after ten years on very strong pain medication, and with my spinal canal completely closed up on my nerves like shrink wrap on electrical wire I had to do something. I feel like surgery was my last and only resort.
