I've been sitting on my 72 Karmann Ghia for 4 years now waiting for the market to wake up to these lovely cars.

I love those cars. Don't see them very often anymore. Especially in Cleveland

Thanks for your hard work on your projects. You are very talented! I particularly enjoyed your memories of your Granddad. My father and father-in-law were both in the Army Air Corps during WW2. My Dad was in the Pacific and my father-in-law was in Europe. Both were flight mechanics. My Dad was born in 1920. The photos of your Grandad touched my heart. I had a 1969 Bug I bought in 1970 and drove it for many years. I miss that ride. Peace and good and happiness to you, Buddy.

I can’t believe people are willing to pay so much. In the 80’s I could do a full driver restoration on a Vw for about a grand. Paint, interior and mechanical refreshing for less than a grand.

My dad made an oval dirt track in our back yard when I was 13 ,he bought me a 1964 beetle and he bought my brother a Nash metropolitan and we’d race around the back track , I remember I had to pump the brakes about 6 times to stop

Great work. You are an icon now Chris. Your history has been your success. I’m bringing my bug down to as soon as I find one

Yes, they did stay inexpensive for a long time indeed. I personally like the the stories of how much someone paid for a vintage VW way back. I snagged some cheap ovals but a Hebmuller for a couple of hundred bucks is not one of them! Oh that low light is so sweet looking!

The Karmann Ghia was an interesting concept but I never really had the urge to buy one. The only VW that I regret not buying was a VW Bus. I had 2 chances over the years but passed on both opportunities.

Would you mind listing the auctions you mentioned that do well for European cars?

Wow Chris, your Grandfather served in the Mighty Eighth! That's a big deal. My first VW engine build was my '66 Bug. It cost me $300, including machine work. That was in '87. I then moved to Louisiana. Had friends there that served in the Mighty Eighth. Drove that Beetle to visit them on Base. Then one day, I was driving home from work in that same bug, and saw the B-52s launch, headed for Iraq. If you get a chance, there is a really great Eighth Air Force Museum you can visit. I love what you do and the info you make available to the world. I love what you have built, just as much, my only hope if that you plan for the future of what you built, far beyond your own life, and can pass the legacy of your grandfather, father, and yourself forward, if not to a family member, then to a trust that can keep Classic VW Bug going for generations to come.
