Dialectical behavior therapy is based on working with opposites and polarized thinking, that two opposing realities can be true. ☯️

Yes!!!! I’ve been saying “two things can be true” (both to myself and to others) very frequently since doing DBT, loved seeing Adam talk about it :)

A friend of mine told me recently that purple doesn’t exist on the light spectrum that it’s something our brain creates when mixing equal parts blue and red…got me thinking that when we hold the tension of the opposites we create a third thing in which both things are true. I love this episode thank you 🙏

Another symptom of the inability to hold opposites that I can identify in myself is anxiety-when one ‘side’ must be exclusively true, otherwise my worldview or sense of self feels like it’s being destroyed or attacked. I can still be BOTH a good person AND not totally be right!

“Both/And” was one of the most important values I experienced from the (very open) seminary I attended.
IMO, it’s our responsibility as spiritual shamans and counselors to invite this kind of thinking and culture into astrology. Thanks for your leadership in this regard Adam!

Fabulous exploration Adam! Almost a sermon, in fact it should be in every religious congregation. People need to be propelled into deeper thought about the lives we live and share here in this time. Awareness and holding the tension sometimes,...might advance our evolution individually and communally, creation yet unfolding. Thanks so much for your soul-fuel.

Thank you, Adam Elenbaas, for another brilliant video! The way you use Hellenistic astrology to explain the deeper spiritual themes of this Mercury-Jupiter opposition is so inspiring. I’m grateful for how you make these complex ideas accessible and meaningful. This was just what I needed today!

Someone said (obviously, I can't remember who) that the ability to live with the tension of ambiguity was a major condition of maturity. This "two things true" ideas has been central to my thinking for the past couple decades. I can confidently say that every major spiritual or psychological concept is involved in a dialectic where two things are true at the same time that cannot be true at the same time ( if viewed from a limited perspective). For one tiny example, we are perfect, loved and loveable and must accept ourselves exactly as we are AND much improvement is clearly needed. Haven't listened to Adams list yet, but can't wait. Btw, I have Sag AC, Jupiter opposite Gemini DC Venus/Uranus. Also Aquarius 3 Moon opposite Leo 9 Mars/Saturn/Pluto. These form a rectangle.

Wonderful post! I was thinking that all polarities spin around a share "tertium quid" Eg: 1. "Ought" lies behind Justice--unfairness; 2. "Trust" lies behind both suffering - transcendence. 3. "Consciousness" lies behind both Resilience and Sensitivity. 4. "Agency" lies behind Fate - Free will. 5. "My freedom" lies between Independence -- Surrender. 6. "Will" lies between Control -- Surrender. " 7. "Import or meaning" (does it matter?) lies between Nothing --Lots at Stake. 8. "Accountability" lies between MY fault -- Yours. 9. "Judgment" lies behind Good and Bad. “Being” lies behind Oneness and Duality. Perhaps these underlying concepts/assumptions are at the core of being human? (Sorry, ignore strikeovers! Weird.)

Ahh, the paradox of the human condition. One of my favorite musical poets, Jimmy Buffett, from He Went to Paris summed it up at the end of the song…”some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, but I had a good life all the way.” The paradox is at the core of the human experience. It is the both/and of it all. Thanks for keeping it real!

    Love this talk!
This same understanding led me to one of the most profound realizations I have had; that oppositions or problems are never resolved, but rather, transcended. This is kind of like shifting the duality from horizontal to vertical. So… for example - not sure these are great examples, but I’ll try - instead of saying that fiscally conservative and fiscally liberal are opposites, see that these are attempts to control something through money. What are you trying to control? Is money the most appropriate tool or context for that concern? Or another example, instead of saying that heterosexual and homosexual are opposites, realize they’re both sexual and can be seen as part of the broad experience of humanity. Also, shifting from polarity to looking at qualities along a spectrum from one pole to the other can be quite enlightening.
Anyway, thank you for yet another important talk!

Enriching talk. For me, part of the search for truth was, how did I create all this bad karma I was born into, in a past life. Helping to take some responsibility for being born into an unloving family.
This reminded me of ACIM, in it's intro, says there is not only one true religion, but as many paths to God as there are people. It's very specific about that. I fell in love with it. The energy of it goes way beyond words for me. Words can create more understanding, or separation. Violence is usually separating. Hoping for the most peaceful transfer of power possible. I'm having Mercury, and Venus return, with them in 8 and 20 degrees Sag. It feels pretty positive. Then, I got into a quagmire over my solar return, on Thursday. Date wise, it is, but if I was born at 15 ° Scorpio, I'm also watching for that, because I don't think it always happens on the same day every year. So, maybe an excuse to celebrate twice. Ha ha. Hope everyone has a great week. At least the election will soon be over. It has been intense. Thanks for everything U do. It really helps alot of people. Take care! 💙💜🇺🇸💜🐱💙🌹🐼🎃😊🐾

This hit deeply I have this in my 1st/7 th house w natal mercury in sag . I fell in love with this guy and we are complete opposites and he has come and gone very quickly and I’m convinced he has avoidant attachment. As soon as we get close he runs and I don’t exist then two months later he comes back etc . This has been very painful. Obviously I’m trying to let go as there is nothing I can do but let go. Ultimately, it has led me to come in terms with my own self worth and values as it ripped open my deep wounds. I have been trying to have faith there is a bigger scheme for all of this to unfold in a way that can be healed

When my ancestors were in slavery, all they had was a hope a future descendent would have freedom and earn money for work and have time to pursue hobbies, but they had faith and their deepest desires for their descendants came true even though they didn’t live to see it. So if America falls and along with it, I’ll just have faith something better will arise for my descendants even if I can’t see how.

On the opposite end of the spectrum from humility in the equation of fault and blame is, in my opinion, forgiveness. It's like chicken sometimes, who's going to be the one to swallow their pride and say "I'm sorry" or "it's ok, I forgive you." I feel like holding the tension is being able to truly forgive, to apologize and trust that people will be held accountable by karma. That very rarely do I have to be the hand of judgement.

  • @And-y4j
    @And-y4j 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    If I may note:
    - the opposition with Mercury creates a certain communication tension, often due to different viewing perspectives. I think the key problem here is not misunderstanding, but beliefs that have shaped certain attitudes that a person adheres to; people speak based on their beliefs, quite often. In this direction, the questioning of one's own beliefs is significant, as well as the "mental model" that a person uses. I will also mention here that we do not all have the same "mental filters" when it comes to beliefs or convictions. It is basic for someone to believe in karma, a cause-and-effect sequence... someone believes in coincidence, someone in synchronicity, someone in God and justice and someone in nothing - which is very impressive, actually.
    - secondly, we deal with concepts about which we have an idea, but we have no clear experience. For example: if someone believes in karma, then tell me something about your past life ..and then we are on thin ice. I admit, too, that there are experiences for which there is no adequate word in the dictionary; indescribable experiences..
    - there is also a "mind game" when we think that our thoughts are correct and that our observations based on senses and beliefs give an accurate interpretation of events, life, etc.
We forget that everything is actually just our interpretation. We don't see reality as it is, we see our interpretation of reality.
Example: I knew and often talked with a man, very broad erudite knowledge, politically active, very well-read, very sensitive... He filtered all content through "conspiracy theory". Very selective in mental perception, very deep in experiencing.
    - I love the opposition in the chart between the planets, there is some strength in that connection that separates and at the same time the separation that unites.
Also, I think the opposition is doing the strongest extension. I feel that the planet uses the "strongest force" in opposition and can definitely go the farthest..
    - in conclusion: mind and thoughts create reality. Where focus goes, energy goes.
In the not so distant future, people will create material things with their thoughts without using their hands.
    - this is summarized although it seems extensive -
And, thank you!I love your point of view, as always.

Adam “two things can be true” sounds to have its roots in Marxist philosophy called Dialectics. Dialectics are now an important component of certain therapies that emphasize working with people who can get highly polarized and impulsive. I was a dialectical behavioral therapist and teacher for 15 years and teaching dialects is super important for helping us address our internal complexities. Hope that little nugget of info is useful.

@LaurenCecilia722 i would say it's the opposite, that dialectics have their roots in Hermes...because everything I've presented in today's talk, philosophically speaking, predates Marxism and dialectics by literally thousands of years...its as ancient as Taoism and Hermeticism, as old as Pythagoras and the yogis, etc...not that other schools haven't worked with the same or similar ideas about opposites...its just important to note that this philosophical tension is archetypal and therefore it's roots are very ancient within astrological thinking about planets...

We are all sinners and some are more than others. Some are more by a lot.
We are all sinners and we still have the right to hold accountable those who fuck up
Some people are very comfortable in their dark side and use it to manipulate others acting as if they're more honest than those who chose to do the right thing most of the time.
Many people don't trust those who do good most of the time and see it as not human unless you show some imperfection. And, many good people feel pressured to meet that expectation and do or say things thay don't want to in order to appear "more sincere and authentic." People can take any ideology to extremes.

Any girls bron with Moon in Aries? This is Marsian femininity that in my culture ( growing up in post communist Poland where the grandparents lived through both World wars) was beaten and forced out of me yet I blazed my own trail in life.

Hate and love.. I think of things as two sides of the same coin a lot.. things can be different expressions of the same energy too I suppose.. like an engine running vs an explosion.. they are the same but different..

Sensitive vs resilient people are not necessarily on the opposite spectrum.
For instance, workaholic is an addict motivated by desire for power or money, often time at the expense of the well-being. Similarly machoistic people drive pleasure out of abusing their bodies. Spanking is painful, but not really 😂
Gym rat is working hard, but not really.
Having fun is unpleasant for workaholic.
True suffering is slow , consistent and often goes on for decades and is actually life transforming. And it's also unpleasant. It's plutonian. Like you said , it bring you down to your knees, shatter your ego and force you to change at your very core.
In a way, human life is about experiencing such transformations.
