Brahma Sangeet | Bengali Devotional Songs | Iman Chakraborty | Tumi Amader Pita

Brahma Sangeet, a genre of Bengali Devotional Songs, was created first by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. "Tumi Amader Pita" is a rare compilation of Brahma Sangeet or the Bengali Devotional Songs. Raja Ram Mohan Roy also composed songs to be sung in the service of the Brahmo Samaj. The songs were all based on classical ragas like Dhrupad, Behag etc. The introduction of singing as a part of religious service was in itself a great act of reformation. The messages of the songs were direct. The direct message that was communicated was "service of man is the service of God."
Brahma Sangeet gained its popularity at the time of Debendranath who composed many songs during that time. These songs were sung at the festivals of the Brahmo Samaj. Rabindranath Tagore followed these festivals from his childhood and naturally absorbed the spirit of these songs. Brahma Sangeet also appealed to people because of its tune - there was Dhrupad, Khayayal, Tappa, Western tunes, Baul, Bhatiali, Kirtan etc. These songs have not only united the country but the world as a whole.
This album “Tumi Amader Pita” is a compilation of the famous Brahma Sangeet artistes like Sourav Chakraborty, Subir Nandi, Brati Kundu, Durba Roy Chowdhury, Iman Chakraborty and Moumita Sen. The renditions of these songs are flawless and beautiful. Especially songs like “Brahmo Sanatan Tumi Hey” and “Tumi To Royechho” deserves a special mention.
