Wow what a surprising wrap up. I hope February goes well for you. I tried reading The Love of My After Life but decided to do a soft dnf because I just wasn't ready for it at the time.
I've been finding myself growing less and less enchanted with modern day books, they just all seem like they follow a formula without interesting characters and interesting stories. So I've been reading older books where a compelling story and characters have been written along with commentary. I recently re-read Anne of Green Gables, The Thorn Birds, Gone with the Wind, North & South, and now focusing on some thrillers from the 80s that were written by Sidney Sheldon. Modern writers just lack the skill of mixing commentary with interesting stories and characters.
I have Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop and will be reading it once I finish Water Moon... omg I'm only 45 pgs in and already so good! I've highlighted a lot so far. Have a feeling I'll be annotating a lot in Hyunam-Dong Bookshop too. 😊
Here's what I read My name is Barbra by Barbra Streisand memoir ⭐⭐⭐ A winter in new York by josie silver ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You like it darker by Stephen king ⭐⭐⭐ Under your spell by Laura wood ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The teacher by frida McFadden ⭐ A fire Endless by rebecca ross ⭐⭐⭐ Things we left behind by Lucy score ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bride by ali hazlewood ⭐⭐⭐
Yeah, I read Dark Places too. I think maybe that the author believed the audience would read between the lines of the non-persuasive narratives. Also she has this weird habit of leading the reader to a conclusion and subsequently destroying that theory with a new twist in the narrative. Instead of being intrigued I was a little annoyed, as if I had wasted some energy following her point to its logical conclusion.
I think that many readers these days are not on the level that you and I are on. Very young, new readers, especially those who have children and jobs, seem to really like these books as they don't require as much concentration. I gave The Boyfriend 2 stars, so I'm more generous than you are but I'm 62, I'm a nice old lady 😆 I read 18 books last month and not one 5 star in the bunch.
glad you had a great start to the year! also feeling very burnt out on thrillers recently 💜
January was a rough reading month. Hopefully all the new romance will save me in February!!
I had 21 fantastic reads in January!

literally same lol
😂😂😂
Where did you talk about Pictures of You? Can’t find it on your channel!
I just looked and she posted it a month ago! It's the video where she read for 24 hours straight 😊
@ oh thank you!!
I read 5 books. My favorite was The Wild Robot ❤
Read 10 books. The best were beautiful ugly, cross my heart (got it from you) and bloom.
I read Linghun and didn’t like it - I felt like Haunting of Velkwood covered some similar themes but did it a lot better.

I love BOTM! 😍
I'm with you about The Favorites! I gave it 2/5⭐ I did not connect with the characters and did not care for the romance
Sydney Prescott in Scream is SO much smarter than Sydney in The Boyfriend. I am kind of done with Frieda McFadden’s books.
I'm 177 pages into Intermezzo and not loving it either. I may DNF it. I got it from the library as I'm not a big fan of Sally Rooney either.

Sorry you didn't had any 5 star reads surprisingly I had 3
I really wish booktubers would stop getting political.
I’m the opposite! I like knowing that way I know to support.
