"You cannot lift the leg and put it down without attacking..." What? That's absurd. If someone could please explain the purpose of such a rule, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It is absurd! They implemented it so that fighters wouldn't use their leg as a giant block for the opponent to navigate. It got to the point where both fighters were just hopping on one leg trying to just bait each other to attack. So they made it illegal to do so. Personally I think they mangled the rules to the point whereby it's not a sport anymore. But that's just me.
You could just suspend you leg in the air also using it as a barrier to prevent your opponent from closing it. I used this obsessively before this rule was introduced 😂
@@Kylora2112 A better rule would be a limit on how long you can keep your leg up and/or a set amount of time you can do so before getting a penalty. Making it one and done just unbalances the sport the other way.

I am very glad they changed the rules a bit because at one point it was looking as if Olympic TKD was a foot slapping-tapping race instead of actual force emitting impact striking like its supposed to be. I like these rules, & the point scoring set up a lot. I am a huge TKD former practitioner, & fan (as also a practitioner of Jujitsu, Wrestling, Karate, Aikido, & Hapkido). Hey, I have a suggestion for you. Can make make a video on the various rules of Sanda? I really want to know about it since I'm too lazy to read the rules. Please🥺🙏?

The ITF logo you provided in the beginning of your video does not belong to the ITF that is recognised by the Olympic committee as a true representative of the ITF style Taekwondo. (There are a few ITFs claming to be the "true/real" ITF due to disputes between grandmasters regarding the question who among them should have inherited gen. Choi Hong Hi as the president of the International Taekwondo Federation after his death). Nevertheless, I enjoyed your video, very informative and straightforward. Good job :)
3:01; I assume such misconduct includes kicking the referee into the scoreboard? (For those that don't get it, it's a reference to an Asian-exclusive SNES game called "Taekwon-Do", which uses actual Taekwondo rules {circa 1994}, except for the final battle, where the boss kicks the referee into the scoreboard and it's treated more like a typical fighting game battle.)
I thought you were referring to the Angel Matos incident - he actually did kick the referee in the face @ the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and was subsequently banned for life.
So basically, taekwondo's "gibon kyorugi' fights are not for the shy person who fights in such matches. Excessive stalling while fighting in TKD matches can be perceived by the ref as not showing a fighting spirit and can lead to the one stalling to get a "gam jeon". Several "gam jeon" red-flags on you earns you a disqualfication, and the non-offending fighter will win by default. So especially in these taekwondo fights, avoid: 1. Backing away too much from the aggressor without counterattacking. 2. Excessive faking without obvious attempts to attack the opponent after faking. 3. Excessively holding back your punches within range of punching reach of the opponent - that is definitely stalling, and it is not allowed.
In short: yes. However, I noticed that World Taekwondo are forever changing the parameters of scoring. As a black belt in this sport, I think they've mangled it beyond recognition.

You can punch as hard as you like to the body, but not the face. The reason why they changed the rule on what you call 'flinching' is that too many people were just using it to deliberately keep opponents away and not attacking. Made for some very boring fights. Steven Lopez of the USA was the first to do this, winning gold after gold by playing keep away and then everyone started doing it, hence why they recently outlawed it.

I'm about to enter my 1st taekwondo match & 1st thing I learn is I can pick a leg up & put it down without kicking ... tf Is the point if faking a kick & following with another.. that's the idea is to psyche ur opponent out & suprise him... fk it I'm just gunna have to throw a haymaker & get a knockout
No. The rules seemingly change every 6 months now and it's getting kinda ridiculous that they can't seem to make up their minds. Furthermore, the interpretation of the rules are different between tournaments so it's pretty pointless making any sort of explanation video that won't be woefully out of date within months.
I have a question about the kicking rules- Is any type (which are not taught in normal taekwondo classes) of kicks allowed & scoring in taekwondo compitition? That means like front/back flip or front/back turn etc acrobatic kicks bring points, or any other than the taekwondo book kicks are not allowed to score in the compitition?? Please answer and oblige me. Thanking you
Long time ago at my old taekwondo we did sparring in this big place and I was so weak and I could barely punch hard. But if I enter the sparring contest now I think I could badly injure someone.

Resume: "You cannot fight".
It's getting that way.
1:34 looks like a kick to the face? Is that not illegal?
Nope, that's perfectly legal - counts as a head hit.
No... It's completely allowed... No penalties..
in karate head punches are allowed.
Yes, as mentioned in my Karate video: th-cam.com/video/DZJQ4PBHIZc/w-d-xo.html
Can you make an updated version since the rules were just updated Wednesday?
No. The rules seemingly change every 6 months now and it's getting kinda ridiculous that they can't seem to make up their minds. Furthermore, the interpretation of the rules are different between tournaments so it's pretty pointless making any sort of explanation video that won't be woefully out of date within months.
Did you add those time limit, score and the x for the punch to the face? Or were those in a video you found?
They were already in the footage.
Ninh Ly oh ok i was hoping you added those in cause they looked cool
Can you do a video on ITF taekwondo?
If I get enough demand, sure.
I have a question about the kicking rules-
Is any type (which are not taught in normal taekwondo classes) of kicks allowed & scoring in taekwondo compitition?
That means like front/back flip or front/back turn etc acrobatic kicks bring points, or any other than the taekwondo book kicks are not allowed to score in the compitition??
Please answer and oblige me.
Thanking you
Can you block kicks to head with hands? Seems like an easy way to prevent all these head kick KOs I see
You can, but you'll end up with broken hands.
Are elbow strikes allowed?
Not in Taekwondo, no.
love it. can I play these rules in school ma charti
Yes.
Also bear in mind that color belts are not allowed to strike the head.
Can you talk about ITF rules in other video?
I'll consider it.
TAEKWONDO ile ilgili yeni bir video bekliyorum senden
What is the importance of knowing the rules in Taekwondo?
Not being disqualified from a match, and also helps anyone who is watching make sense on what is happening.
Long time ago at my old taekwondo we did sparring in this big place and I was so weak and I could barely punch hard. But if I enter the sparring contest now I think I could badly injure someone.
Good for you.
@@NinhLyUK lol I think he could mean that based on the taekwondo is tournaments now his "weak" punches are considered hard. Or I could be wrong
So any kicks allowed.. even side kick and thrust kick.. ?
Yes. They are allowed, so long as they're above the waist.
is these rules are there for 2020 year also !! plz let me know !
Is there a team Taekwondo competiton?
I fought as a kid
I wish to return to WT
Thanks 😁
Nice 👌😊🥋
Thanks bro.

Tkd is an sport or a martial art?
It's both.
@@NinhLyUK but itf tkd is more like a martial art? Because I want to practice a martial art, not a combat sport (because combat sports means boxing, kickboxing, mma, etc.). I have to change of sport/ martial art?
@@ezemeza1363 TKD is a martial art, but the rules of fighting are mainly sport based. It can be one or the other. I am a black belt in TKD and it is a useful martial art. But there are better ones if you want to learn real world self-defence.
@@NinhLyUK no, I dont want to practice for sel defense, I want to improve my self-confidence. However, you have to be shrewd whit the 'self-defense' because you cant play with the law. The police is the institution that should protect people from danger, because the state has the force's monopoly.
Yo im a young fan bro i have match tomorrow wish me good luck
can i parry or block them using my knees or hands?
Can they kick Bellow the belt?
No, as mentioned in the video, you cannot kick below the waist.
What does "Gam Jeon", which means a penalty point, actually mean in Korean?
