Chintzy prizes are typical of Canadian game shows. Back in the 1970s there was an excellent CTV game show called Definition. Often a five-time champion would win nothing more than a refrigerator.
This history-based quiz show ran from 1997 to 1999. Emcee Turcott died shortly after its cancellation. TimeChase was later rerun on GameTV from 2007 to 2011.
I applied to be on this game show and was informed by telephone that I'd likely be called in for an interview. However this show did not last very long and I never got that second phone call.
This show deserved a better fate. Probably, on over-the-air TV like CTV. It was good, smart, and had lineage to The Mad Dash. If it hadn't been canceled, when Turcott passed, I could've imagined Pierre LaLonde taking over hosting had he been available.
