デビュー・アルバムとセカンド・アルバムが2作連続全米1位を獲得するなど、18歳にして数々の功績を残し、ネクスト・ジャスティン・ビーバーとも称されるショーン・メンデス。日本デビュー・アルバム『イルミネイト』のプロモーションのため待望の初来日を果たし、2月27日には、東京・渋谷にて一夜限りのプレミアム・ショーケースを行った。
日本のファンに圧巻のパフォーマンスを披露してくれたショーンに、TVグルーヴは単独インタビューを実施。初めての日本の感想はもちろん、歌手になったキッカケや影響を受けたアーティスト、そして10代の子たちへ伝えたいメッセージなど、たっぷり語ってもらった。

約3年ぶりに見ました。
当時16歳の自分はなんとなく軽い気持ちで見てました、でも今見るとすごく勉強になります。
「自分らしくいる」これが一番難しいことであり、一番大切なことですね。
この3年のうちにいろいろ経験して改めてそう感じました。
当時のショーンと同じ18歳の間にまた戻ってきてよかったです。

I hate it when people compare Shawn and Justin (although we all know who's better, please no offence to the Beliebers I'm just another crazy fangirl😂) but I'm just going to say that I think Shawn is so underrated, and most people (apart from the Mendes Army) only know him for his popular songs, whereas with Justin, almost all of his songs "get on the charts" if u know what I mean, which is awesome for him and all, but I just think Shawn needs more recognition for his talent and personality and also not for just his looks (not saying we should ignore it because you know what I mean AHEM BENITO😂) but yeah I just think that he needs more recognition for his other songs too, because they have really beautiful meanings to them. And if you haven't listened to his other music, I would suggest it, and even if you don't like it (idk how couldn't but everyone has their opinions) just listen to the lyrics, especially A Little Too Much (not picking favourites, but it's a good example of what I'm talking about) and to also recognise that he has real talent and he will go far in his career. Anyways sorry for that rant and all those brackets😂 baiiiii and peace out #MendesArmy🤘🏼
