Does a simple kidney cyst require follow up? | POCUS pearls

Simple renal cysts are often incidentally found and do not require routine imaging follow up. This video shows an example where the cyst was unchanged in 10 years.

Does post injury /trauma the cyst becomes abnormally bigger almost 5 to 6 times of original size?

Cyst size can increase due to internal hemorrhage but 5-6 times seems too big. I have never seen. If the bleed is that severe, patient must be in hemorrhagic shock.

@@abhilashnephropocus1297 thanks for your reply. Patient doesn't have any symptoms expect lump on examination. CT to showed a simple cyst. Aspirated and done cytology which showed hemorrhagic content. But within 3 months cyst filled again to same level

Are cyst on kidney serious? 1.4 cm. Right kidney..a simple renal cyst?

In general, small simple cysts (less than 3 cm) are harmless and do not need any follow up imaging. They are very common. But its up to your doctor to figure out the cyst characteristics and appropriate follow up.
