I'm also a bit of a Luddite, which I don't think you are, but it's so good to hear a younger person who prefers the more tangible pencil and paper. Not knocking the incredible things you that can be done digitally. Can't really compete with that, and yet, putting pen to paper has its own connection that is just not quite there with digital. Also that you still get in-print publications: Girl after my own heart. : )

Yeah. If you really think about all the things that are able to hurt Kids you wouldn't even have kids. So people should be cautious but not be ridiculous. Rose thorns smh.

Heavy equipment and tractors are serious, a scratch from a rose bush is a simple life lesson. We can only worry about so many things as parents. I have two teenagers and it is a constant evaluation of risk. But the more I let them do, the more they surprise me with their amazing capabilities.

I remember my childhood and roller skating down the special, seamless sidewalk my Dad built especially for that purpose. There was a corner we skated around with a climbing yellow rose on the white fence. If you weren't careful on that turn, you would hit the fence and the get thorns in your hands. I learned to be very careful. My favorite rose color is still yellow!
Love your take on level of worry with your kids. They’ve got to learn somehow. Some things are truly dangerous, some aren’t. Scratches from a rose bush aren’t 🙂
from the video & comments yesterday, i got inspired to go out and prune my roses. also groomed all the planters, cleared a lettuce bed & prepped it for new crop. stayed out most of the day doing garden chores. it was a beautiful day, thanks for the inspiration everybody!!!
I love the shared format with both you and Aaron. I have very much noticed how often Laura will ask what the name of a plant is and every time Aaron answers correctly!!!!! His knowledge/learning curve on plants has gone straight up. Congrats Aaron for making an effort to learn, even though it might not be as interesting as working on technical equipment or drones :) I hired my nephew last summer to do the hard slugging I couldn't do and he planted my plants too and he was very proud of his work and that he learned to recognize the plants and name them.

There are lots of studies that link creativity to the actual hand movement of drawing / writing. You stay old school, girl. I have notebooks going back 20 years, and I don't have to worry about a thunderstorm making me lose all my old notes.
I love going back through my plant and beekeeping journals to read my notes, things I saw that day, and drawings I do of plants or animals. You are right that the brain/memory is very much link to handwriting/drawing and I found when studying if I handwrote things I remembered them much better. I teach some memory skills and one is to memorize all Prime Ministers of Canada. I have them draw images along with the training and in 15 minutes they are able to quote them all accurately.

So, seeing, writing, hearing, speaking (also singing), even tasting and smelling, especially using several of our senses in combination with one another enable us to learn on a much deeper level than simply watching or hearing a lesson. People ask the strangest things... but I liked how "real" you both are in the this one, less filtered and more honest. You're a lifestyle brand and I personally like seeing the frustrations, uncertainty and real life stuff peek through the veil sometimes. It makes you more accessible and less unattainable, LOVE the channels really influenced some of my gardening and made me want to move out of the city!
YAAY! You replied to my question about the winter watering of the evergreens by your door! I had to tell my husband and sent him the link. 😂 I have two baby Christmas trees at my front door and two box woods under the eaves near my front door, facing East, and I don’t think I watered them as much as you did yours, but they still look alive! So I’m hopeful they are good to go and will try to water more this next winter season. Thanks for answering my question! There’s been other videos that you say you water potted evergreens during the winter but I never caught where you said how often, or I was just glazed over by the beauty of the arrangement at the moment. I grew. Upvaround roses mom just iodined it and sent me back out with a now you know why ivsay stay away from them. Her rosemary was a huge ring and attracted bees but ones stung we learned to leave them alone. I can't imagine not having leatning moments in life. There is so much more in this world they are growing in now-a-days to worry about. But you do your best and hope they learn well lifes lessons. You pray that things and people that csn do harm stays awsy as they grow up and ecplore outside the comfort and protection of home.
I think it's wonderful that you refuse to completely let go of old school drawing. Technology has taken over our youth to a degree where they do not have to think for themselves. 💜 ALSO.... Doing a check for little ones around equipment is so smart. I know a man who lost his arm as a two year old because he was napping in a field when his dad, a farmer, accidentally ran over the child with farm equipment. He didn’t know his son was there. Although my friend lost his arm he has had a wonderful life since. His dad must have had nightmares for years after that incident though.
This reminds of my grandma's neighbor. He run over his toddler with his 18-wheeler. He was a truck driver, he was leaving and didn't see his son coming to say bye. That little boy didn't have a chance. I can't imagine being that poor guy and family. The nightmares, blame, everything.

My kids and I have made some mason and leaf cutter bee homes the last few years. They are slowly “moving in” and more and more come into our garden each year. So much fun and just a very relaxed way to encourage bee friends to stick around😄

Any milkweed I’ve grown gets swamped with those yellow aphids. Once they are in the garden, they are usually brought under control of the ladybugs, hover fly larva and parasitic wasps that are already there. If you try to make your garden as inviting as possible to beneficial insects, these things come into balance.
Love the back and forth banter, healthy in a relationship. Smiles at seven weeks...raising an eyebrow...sure it's not gas...ha ha ha. you will have to post a pic of that so we all can say awhhh.

I recently have been using clover as a ground cover or alternative to grass... It is draught tolerant, only gets a few inches tall, and grows flowers too... It can handle shade or full sun, swamp or draught... Food for thought there 😊
I think part of the reason we ask about you tying your hair up is that you are always having to fiddle with it, flip it out of your eyes etc. Tying it back brings so much freedom.
FYI, I ordered some of the EuroScrubby cleaner right after watching the video where you cleaned the window boxes because I was so impressed. I live in BC, Canada, and was able to order some of it through the HOUSE OF KNIVES, if anyone is interested. Not sure if you have such stores in the US. The shipping cost me nearly as much as the cleaner, but I didn't care 'cause I need something magical like that around here! Thanks for turning me on to this product. I'm a big fan of teaching kids the proper way to behave and treat things. I never did a lot of child proofing, neither did my parents. I was taught at an early age to respect my parents things, if theyrr not toys dont play with it. Trained my daughter the same way. I wouldn't not have a certain plant or shrub in my yard unless my kid was allergic to it. It's better to train your kid, then expect the world to change for them.

I tried everything in everything here in Florida to get rid of Aphids on Milkweeds! Soap and water, alcohol and soap. The only thing that works is hunting the little buggers. I keep an eye on my Milkweeds and just crush them. When little just run across and gone, bigger crush with other leaves , smoosh! Big ones laying eggs I try to step on. Hunting we will go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Impatient Gardner just did a dahlia tuber dividing. Aphids I heard if you take a yellow solo cup upside down and covered with vasaline . Then put the cup on a stick the aphids go there. Maybe it will work. Love the color of the new studio and the begonias are beautiful. When you were talking about your bulbs only half coming up in a pot. Maybe do a test and turn some of the pots around and see if it is the sun heating the pot sooner. As far as teaching Benjamin about the cars, trucks etc. You are also teaching him to listen to his enviroment and what is going on around him and being aware. Seems like kids don't know how to learn and watch about what is going on around them. You two are doing a great job. Thank you.
My daughter is just 2 or 3 months younger than Benjamin and we are in the SAME boat. Also our first. Also, like you, my first real experience with babies or young children -- steep learning curve!

I have watched a lot of European garden videos and so many of those sites have orchards surrounded by a meadow. Beautiful. I live in coastal NC and in Beaufort many lawns have starflowers (ipheion) everywhere. It is so pretty. Consider adding them if you plant a bulb strewn meadow.
I think newer subscriptions would really enjoy and benefit from going back to the beginning and watching all the videos. I did that a few years ago and watched them from the start all winter long. By spring I was ready to go!!!

Hi Laura! My my town just had a hail and dust storm back to back this week. Before this happened my tulips were preforming phenomenal! But now they are all look sad:( I was wondering if you cut back the tulip will they come back with a second bloom in the same year? If so where would you make the cut?
Arron, have you considered a propane torch to kill your weeds - especially in the drive? It would eliminate a bunch of chemicals. We’ve recently switched to it. Yo can torch the are you’re planning to put grass seed, prior to seeding to help control new weed seeds. Best Vicki P.🌸

Agree. Children learn that thorns hurt, that fire is hot, that knives cut, that bugs bite, etc when they are around those things.

When you run out of the Euro scrub cleaner, you can try the Cleaning Paste by Norwex. It looks pretty much like the same stuff. It's awesome!

Same way you get them to stop doing other naughty things. Tell them no and discipline them if they don't listen/stop.

I had to tell my husband and sent him the link. 😂 I have two baby Christmas trees at my front door and two box woods under the eaves near my front door, facing East, and I don’t think I watered them as much as you did yours, but they still look alive! So I’m hopeful they are good to go and will try to water more this next winter season. Thanks for answering my question! There’s been other videos that you say you water potted evergreens during the winter but I never caught where you said how often, or I was just glazed over by the beauty of the arrangement at the moment. I grew. Upvaround roses mom just iodined it and sent me back out with a now you know why ivsay stay away from them. Her rosemary was a huge ring and attracted bees but ones stung we learned to leave them alone. I can't imagine not having leatning moments in life. There is so much more in this world they are growing in now-a-days to worry about. But you do your best and hope they learn well lifes lessons. You pray that things and people that csn do harm stays awsy as they grow up and ecplore outside the comfort and protection of home.

Doing a check for little ones around equipment is so smart. I know a man who lost his arm as a two year old because he was napping in a field when his dad, a farmer, accidentally ran over the child with farm equipment. He didn’t know his son was there. Although my friend lost his arm he has had a wonderful life since. His dad must have had nightmares for years after that incident though.
This reminds of my grandma's neighbor. He run over his toddler with his 18-wheeler. He was a truck driver, he was leaving and didn't see his son coming to say bye. That little boy didn't have a chance.
I can't imagine being that poor guy and family. The nightmares, blame, everything.

My kids and I have made some mason and leaf cutter bee homes the last few years. They are slowly “moving in” and more and more come into our garden each year. So much fun and just a very relaxed way to encourage bee friends to stick around😄

Any milkweed I’ve grown gets swamped with those yellow aphids. Once they are in the garden, they are usually brought under control of the ladybugs, hover fly larva and parasitic wasps that are already there. If you try to make your garden as inviting as possible to beneficial insects, these things come into balance.
Love the back and forth banter, healthy in a relationship. Smiles at seven weeks...raising an eyebrow...sure it's not gas...ha ha ha. you will have to post a pic of that so we all can say awhhh.

Your baby worries have brought back memories! I swear, they would stop breathing for like five seconds whenever I looked at them and then take a huge breath in breath right as I was starting to panic!

I recently have been using clover as a ground cover or alternative to grass... It is draught tolerant, only gets a few inches tall, and grows flowers too... It can handle shade or full sun, swamp or draught... Food for thought there 😊
I think part of the reason we ask about you tying your hair up is that you are always having to fiddle with it, flip it out of your eyes etc. Tying it back brings so much freedom.
She also doesn’t work outside in high humidity. That would be a game changer when her hair is stuck to her face and neck!
FYI, I ordered some of the EuroScrubby cleaner right after watching the video where you cleaned the window boxes because I was so impressed. I live in BC, Canada, and was able to order some of it through the HOUSE OF KNIVES, if anyone is interested. Not sure if you have such stores in the US. The shipping cost me nearly as much as the cleaner, but I didn't care 'cause I need something magical like that around here! Thanks for turning me on to this product. I'm a big fan of teaching kids the proper way to behave and treat things. I never did a lot of child proofing, neither did my parents. I was taught at an early age to respect my parents things, if theyrr not toys dont play with it. Trained my daughter the same way. I wouldn't not have a certain plant or shrub in my yard unless my kid was allergic to it. It's better to train your kid, then expect the world to change for them.

I tried everything in everything here in Florida to get rid of Aphids on Milkweeds! Soap and water, alcohol and soap. The only thing that works is hunting the little buggers. I keep an eye on my Milkweeds and just crush them. When little just run across and gone, bigger crush with other leaves , smoosh! Big ones laying eggs I try to step on. Hunting we will go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Impatient Gardner just did a dahlia tuber dividing. Aphids I heard if you take a yellow solo cup upside down and covered with vasaline . Then put the cup on a stick the aphids go there. Maybe it will work. Love the color of the new studio and the begonias are beautiful.
When you were talking about your bulbs only half coming up in a pot. Maybe do a test and turn some of the pots around and see if it is the sun heating the pot sooner.
As far as teaching Benjamin about the cars, trucks etc. You are also teaching him to listen to his enviroment and what is going on around him and being aware. Seems like kids don't know how to learn and watch about what is going on around them. You two are doing a great job. Thank you.
My daughter is just 2 or 3 months younger than Benjamin and we are in the SAME boat. Also our first. Also, like you, my first real experience with babies or young children -- steep learning curve!

I have watched a lot of European garden videos and so many of those sites have orchards surrounded by a meadow. Beautiful. I live in coastal NC and in Beaufort many lawns have starflowers (ipheion) everywhere. It is so pretty. Consider adding them if you plant a bulb strewn meadow.

Hi Laura! My my town just had a hail and dust storm back to back this week. Before this happened my tulips were preforming phenomenal! But now they are all look sad:( I was wondering if you cut back the tulip will they come back with a second bloom in the same year? If so where would you make the cut?
Arron, have you considered a propane torch to kill your weeds - especially in the drive? It would eliminate a bunch of chemicals. We’ve recently switched to it. Yo can torch the are you’re planning to put grass seed, prior to seeding to help control new weed seeds. Best Vicki P.🌸
