I used to make these and supplied them with a Feather to dip in cold water and apply to the bottle.
Yes, I also noticed some folks online using a feather as you described. And interesting that you used to makes these. Thanks for sharing.

Nice tongs! Odd way to open a bottle! Back in my drinking days I used a Nitrogen cartridge attached to a needle which was forced through the cork, and the pressure forced it up and out. This way is more interesting, for sure!

I wonder how a larger tong would work on the larger part of the bottle? Say for making a candle holder or something to that effect. Instead of using a glass cutter@@gstongs

Those are neat tongs but there is no way I'd even consider drinking anything out of a bottle that has had it's neck snapped off like that. It would be just my luck that the one lone piece of glass would find its way into my glass. The tongs are cool though! Good job!
This is quite a common practice along with sabering which also breaks the bottle off at the neck
I think the real pros use cheesecloth to strain the wine, just in case. Thanks.

of your tongs. I really like the design that you came up with! I am "somewhat" of a vintage port nerd, and know quite a few port and wine nerds, so after I get the port tongs and send around some texts and emails you will very likely get at least 5 or 6 wine nerds emailing you to make them one.

The algorithm put one of your older videos in my feed. I found it interesting but I had a major reservation before subscribing to your channel. So I came to your most recent video my concern was confirmed.
Shorts and sneakers have no place around a forge. Without basic safety practices, no thanks. Only reason I hit the dislike button is to keep your channel off my feed.
Safety third! As they say...
I know that you write this to troll but arguably the best way to protect yourself against burns would be to forge completely naked, with no risk of fabric catching any burning fuel or metal. If you wear shoes, you might want to wear long pants to make sure nothing hot will drop in to your shoes, but wearing shoes that are quick and easy to remove, such as sneakers, is perfectly fine as well. Wearing long pants and a long sleeved shirt or jacket in a hot climate like where this is recorded might present a bigger safety hazard than what he is doing. Then of course there is the matter of experience. Worst thing that can happen to this man is he gets a bad burn and I reckon most people forging learn what to avoid that pretty quickly.
In my own shop, the two things that worry me the most is dropping something heavy on my toes or getting stuff in my eyes. A small bit of round stock is by no means a concern and the odds of those anvils growing wings and dropping themselves on his feet are pretty slim.
The idea of you finding the videos interesting but not wanting them in your feed because of safety reasons really puts your own abilities in to question. Could you not repeat what he is doing whilst wearing your own preffered safety equipment? Working with a knife is more dangerous than anything shown in this video. As is driving a car.
@@kaptenrobert I do appreciate your detailed comment. Every adult has to operate in a way that suits them, their environment and the like. I never tell people to do as I do when it comes to safety with the one exception being wear protective glasses of some sort. Anyway, it's really is a no win topic... Thanks.
