  • January 2015, 57 American Horse School students had beer sprayed on them and racial slurs said to them while at a Rapid City Rush semi-pro hockey game. They were attending the game as a school reward for good attendance and academics. American Horse School hosted this event in the video for empowerment and encouragement of their students. Many other activities were held at this time as well.
Little Wound School and American Horse School are located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. They are 18 miles a part from eachother. American Horse school is a K-8 school and Little Wound School is a K-12th grade school.

I am in awe of the Native American peoples. I am currently reading a few books by / about the great Native American Chiefs and their struggle, their wisdom, their patience and their fight to keep the tide of white settles from overtaking the very lands they lived on. For over three hundred years, Native Americans have faced such injustice against them. The attempts to rob you of your heritage - your language, your culture, your way of life - and yet you are still speaking your languages, still honouring your sacred ceremonies. Clearly, the Great Spirit has kept all these close to your hearts. And now you have the freedom to reinstate them in your children and grandchildren's lives. As for the beer-spraying incident, your children should walk in dignity knowing that they were not the ones who initiated the hate and they were not the ones who failed to behave with dignity. Those people who perpetrated it have only shame and disgrace to their names. May your great nation's wisdom, patience and dignity live on in all your children and grand-children.

How beautiful! My little girl is a double amputee and is picked on at school. I wish those young people could sing over her! Thank you for sharing this!

I hope the students do not take to heart the slurs of childish people who are ignorant. These songs remind you of who you are! What beautiful voices! Thank you for sharing.

I really couldn't imagine having beer sprayed on me and bring called names . tell them to not take it to heart is easier said then done. they probably have been dealing with such ignorance their entire lives. my daughter's are native and if someone did that to them , then all I have to say is they better run and run fast because if I get ahold of them it's not going to be good. I can't imagine how those young girls felt when that happened. it's plain ignorance at its finest. they can move on from it but to telling them to not take it to heart is another story. how would you feel if someone did that to your child?
