I love to hear the history of Cambodia from another Cambodian. Please continue to share your story and past experiences. I am also interested in learning the legal process of purchasing land and property in Cambodia.

I am a Japanese American man. I was 18 years old when Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge took power in Cambodia in 1975. I was aware of events in SE Asia mainly because in the early 70s I was a teenage male with the Vietnam draft hanging over my head.
After doing a lot of research, I decided to go to Cambodia in September to see if I wanted to retire there. Initially, it was supposed to be a 3-4 week scouting trip, because I intended to work until I reached 70 to maximize my Social Security. About two and a half weeks in, I realized I had absolutely no desire to go back to the States and go back to work for another two and a half years. I called my workplace, thanked them for all they've done for me, and gave my notice. I signed a six-month apartment lease, upgraded to the ER (retirement) visa, and opened an ABA bank account.
Now, I am 67 years old (nyom ah-yu hok-sub-bram-bpee) and living in Siem Reap.
As with you, it was the best decision of my life. Living in Siem Reap is insanely affordable, there are more places you can go to for a good meal than you can shake a stick at, and the Khmer people are wonderful.
When I look back and see all the atrocities and hardships the Khmer have gone through, it amazes me that they can be so kind and welcoming. I look back at my own past and realize that the life I thought was so hard at times was nothing but a walk in the park compared to what a Khmer person my age had to live through.

I want to retire early too.
But I want to wait till next year when I'm 62 .
I want to save more money then just live off my passive rental income
    From 4 home
In California. All mortgage free just property taxes and insurance.

Serious question for you Pu. If you had millions of dollars would you still retire in Cambodia?

If you speak Khmer, retiring in Cambodia is a no-brainer. Retiring in Thailand might be a better option if you speak English only. Thailand has better housing and infrastructure.

Cambodia had a long instability history, and the problem was its instability history was told by those caused and instigated the instability. The Cambodia instability will happen again because Cambodia who was at the helm that drive the instability were control by other. I don't know, but I do believe Cambodian did run into information about the era of Ang Chan II, Ang Mey and Ang Doung, but didn't realize that Pol Pot and all members of his circle were all Vietnamese. Here is my source, the first book I pick up in Mark Twain Library was "Pawn of War". Page 16 stated the French imported 60,000 additional Vietnamese administrator to help run Cambodia government in 1908. The stated reason why French imported from Vietnam was because the Khmer were too rebellious people in 1880est. Of course, this reason was fabricated. The real reason should be the Khmer was too intellectually subverted, and the French found no qualified Khmer to do Cambodia administration job. Another reason for the import of Vietnamese administrator was the French gain control of Battambang from Siam in 1907 and in need of replacing Siam administrator with Vietnamese. If the French had to imported Vietnamese to do Cambodia administrating job instead of hiring local Khmer, then Khieu Samphan, Ieng Sary, Pol Pot and Thiounn's Brothers were all Vietnamese because their parents were part of Cambodia administrator. Those educated by Norodom Sihanouk massive spending on Khmer education were all sent to Tuol Sleng. Hu Nim and Hou Yuon were such individual and their parents were tobacco farmer.

I'm almost 75 - and Siem Reap looks really good compared to Biden's America in my eyes. When I was your age probably not so much ! --- His video here was about "retirement" - after - decades of work ? Not ''living there'' @ 49 ? 🙏✌🍺
