  • On Saturday, December 9th, 2023, I got word that the Strasburg Railroad was running operations with two of their steam locomotives in between Strasburg and Paradise. The locomotives operating were No. 90, a 2-10-0 steam locomotive built in Jan 1924, and No. 89, a 2-6-0 Mogul steam powered locomotive built by Canadian Locomotive Company in 1910.
    A QUICK HISTORY:
Lancaster County’s centuries-long anachronistic Amish and Mennonite culture is juxtaposed with the county’s role in developing the nation’s transportation systems. The area known worldwide for its picturesque “Amish Country” also produced the Conestoga wagon, birthed the idea of the steamboat through native son Robert Fulton, and hosted some of the earliest and largest canal systems during the antebellum period. By the 1820s, Lancaster was in a position to play a leading role in the creation, development, and productivity of the nation’s railroad system. Today, 200 years later, the railroad has an active freight department and world-renowned restoration shops while still dedicated to its mission to provide an early 20th-century steam railroading experience in a safe, clean, and friendly environment.
I chased and filmed the locomotives for a few hours before ultimately heading back north, Enjoy the video, and Merry Christmas.
