- TIPS TO INCREASE MILEAGE
Tip 1: Do not accelerate too fast
Too quick acceleration consumes too much fuel, accelerate slowly and gradually. That will save quite a significant amount of fuel in city driving.
Tip 2: Do not use clutch too much (Stick Shift Only)
If you use a manual transmission car, as is mostly used by people in India, do-not drive with clutch pressed, or use clutch only when needed, too much use of clutch will waste a lot of fuel.
Tip 3: Change gears appropriately (Stick Shify Only)
This is also applicable for manual transmission cars. Use correct gears at correct speeds, this will help save the fuel. For correct speeds, see your car’s user manual.
Tip 4: No Excuses to delay car service
Get the car serviced as per manufacturer’s recommended schedule. This will ensure good health of engine, less maintenance due to break-down.
Tip 5: Do you drive in dusty environment? Clean the Air-filter
If you drive in dusty environment the air-filter gets filled with dust and makes the engine suffocated. Clean the air-filter more often than the service schedule( say every 5000 KM or so) , this will help the engine run more easy and consume less fuel. Trust me, its going to really help.
Tip 6: Red-Signal Ahead? Put the feet off the accelerator
If you are sure that you got to stop after next 100 or 200 meters due to a red signal, keep your feet off the accelerator and car will slow down on engine’s resistance, saving on fuel as well as the brake shoes, apply brakes only when about to stop. This is a great help to save that extra drop of fuel.
Tip 7: Air Pressure in tyres
Get the air-pressure in tyres up to the recommended pressure, and check it once at least in 15 days, it helps the car run smooth and drink less fuel.
Tip 8: Try to keep a constant max speed
When driving in a city or highway, try to maintain a constant speed, that will help the engine put less effort to accelerate or decelerate unnecessarily. This will help reduce fuel consumption.
Tip 9: Keep the window’s glass rolled up on highways
Driving with AC on and glasses rolled up will actually help the car move easy because when windows are open, the car faces more air-drag due to cross ventilation through car, thus consuming more fuel. So always try to keep windows rolled up specially when driving at high speeds.
Tip 10: Buy fuel during morning hours
Buying fuel during morning hours makes sense, because the fuel is a liquid and cools during night hours as temperature is low, and it becomes more dense, so in night hours, you get more weight of fuel for same litres, so its like a bargain in fuel amount 🙂
Tip 11: Re-fuel your car when tank is close to half
This will help reduce the vapors formation in tank, which moves out as you open the lid to re-fuel, thus saving some amount of fuel in the tank.
Tip 12: Clean up the crap from the boot-space
Remove any un-necessary luggage or stuff that you don’t need from back space, that will let the car feel light and run easy on less fuel.
Save fuel, burn it less, save economy and environment both, for a greener and cleaner tomorrow.
Also try to follow a car pool if you are traveling to office or college, that is fun to be with some friends and it reduces traveling boredom too 🙂

I went to Velankanni on 30th and came back on 31 Dec 2021. The interest thing was that, believe or not, my i20 Active Petrol was able to provide a mileage of 17kmpl, i filled for 5000rs and filled 48litres of petrol, the mileage was 17kmpl . I was astonished.
I drove for 5kms at 160kmph (Trichy-Tanjore Highway) then I drove for 3kms at 120kmph (Karur -Trichy Highway) .
Being a Petrol car the 5th gear can be put at 40kmph onwards , so even the car reduced from my constant speed of 85kmph to 100kmph, I had not brought down the gear for sudden speed increase. So the car was able to drive smooth and gave good mileage. The company told Car Mileage of 17kmpl for i20 Active was able to get . Wanted to share information. Low gradual acceleration is always I put , not sudden speed

I am getting good milage in highway, but how shall I also get a satisfactory millage in local. As you know in local you have to change the gears very frequently, secondly you can't go to upper gears.

Please try this experience of keeping RPM below 2000, with AC on and 4 passengers on board. My experience says that from 1st to 2nd gear, there is no power and you have to downgrade it to 1st gear again.

shifting so early affects gear box durability...min. 3000rpm is always recommended...
yes right for engine health 2500 -3000 rpm is perfect
I suggest not to go beyond 3rd gear for city driving to prevent unnecessary shifting of gears

ofcourse you should change your gear by listening engine sound..first just practice with observing sound on different RPM
Use both speed and sound(RPM) to change gears. Also look for the road slope in front of you to help decide which gear to use for maximum fuel economy
For a particular vehicle, certain rpm pretty much gives the same speed on that gear.
Except the exceptions.
Ankush Chaudhary it's OK when h drive slow in the beginning stage of its driving . But it is not advisable to see the speedometer at high speeds . So it's better to change gears based on engine noise.

jab uphill driving ho tab bhi principal same rakhna hai ...lekin jab downhill road ho to neutral kar dena car aur ho sake to downhill pura ho jaye aur straight road aa jaye tab gear shift karna...agar traffic zyada na ho to ...agar ye habbit follow ki to fuel bachega...aur agar tyres purane ho to tyres us company ke lene ke jisme average aur pickup dono jyada aaye...(e.g. michelin in four wheeler and tvs zapper in two wheeler)...cause tyres make a slight difference in average and also pickup..thank you...

2000rpm doesn't mean that you have to shift gear, it's too early. You have to shift around 3200. If you shift gears at this low rpm the cilinders of your car will burn down quite early.

I follow this in Tata Tiago 3monthes. My mileage 14.3kp/l and is increasing everyday. My engine rpm is always below 1500rpm.
My Tiago dashboard also signals me when to downshift or upshift gears.

change the shifting habbits...change gear at 2000RPM as sir said...and when ahead of bump just neutral your car and climb the bump and then change gear...and if youre driving mainly in 80's 90's or 100km/h then your sweet speed will be approax 65-79km/h...once know what is sweet speed of your car...and get best average...

sir agar aap city driving mai AC use kar rahe hai than 16-17 is enough mileage
and if you are driving on highway with AC.than you wil also get 20 mileage approx.

S raghu nath, 1500-1800 rpm (5th or top gear) on highway will give good fuel economy, speed will be around 80-100 km depending on petrol / diesel engine
Nice video sir...but two more tricks..although not for a race driver...but definitely for a mileage driver.....first while you follow rpm ...once car goes to 80km/h in two lane road...just shift to neutral...or you know here will be bump or rough road ahead ...then shift to neutral before bump/rough road...(switching neutral is important)...second know your car sweet speed...it may be tough and it will vary according to your driving habbit but still can know it...i heard from a great friend and followed it...i own zest and i get 27km/l average....

dusri trick hai sweet speed jo ki thodi mushkil hai trick...kyoki ye sweet speed ek aisi speed hoti hai jo apke driving method pe depend karti hai...agar apki gadi normally 2*1000 pe shift kar hi dete hai aur within 90-95km/h ki speed se chalate hai to approax sweet ho sakti hai 70-85 km/h ke beech...sweet speed ek aisi speed hoti hai ki aap us sweet speed pe gaadi chalate hai to apki average shandar aati hai...lekin yaha meine approax sweet speed likha hai actual sweet speed aap ke driving method,shifting gear ratios,clutch kitna dete ho kis timing pe,brake kis tarah se lagate ho ye sab pe depend hoti hai is sab ko mind me rakh ke thoda dhyaan se chalaoge to pata chal jayegi ki sweet speed kitni hai..
ye do tricks koi maane ya naa mane lekin agar sahi tarike se apply ki jai to average vakai badh jati hai..
