Regrowing Onions From Scraps - 18 Months Later // New Onions For 2022 How Many Can I Grow?!
Today on Grow It I have an 18 month update on my onion scraps plant, which started as an experiment in 2020 to see if I could grow an onion from an onion by growing onion scraps in water, and seeing just how many onions can grow from a single onion.
Well after a year and a half I have three new onion bulbs ready to start growing, plus an absolute ton of onion seeds which I harvested from the dried flowers. The onion scraps bulbs have been repotted into a bigger pot to keep them growing on to see if they grow in to full size onions this year. I also started off a seed tray sown with the seeds from the onion scraps plant, which may give us a whole harvest of onions.

Will I be able to grow unlimited onions? You can grow an onion from an onion.

Great Tony! I think the best thing I got from this was a couple of years worth of onion seeds for as long as they stay viable.

Hi did you feed the onions? Or do they just need good soil and water?

    • @GrowIt

I mostly just left them to it in the compost, but I did water them with some all purpose plant food a couple of times during the summer when they were growing.
