    I’m only twelve minutes in and I sincerely hope you’re using your chest voice in performances. The first example grated on me ( not your fault) but when you introduced the chest voice, it sent shivers down my spine and sent me to a different world with its beauty.

    As a mom of a teen who plans to pursue the opera genre in college, this is one of the BEST videos we have watched to support vocal authenticity within the art. Your demos show the texture and character added with chest voice integration. I especially appreciate your concerns about modern vocal education turning out cookie cutter, airy sopranos. Your return to your true voice is an inspiration - promoting vocal diversity might make opera more accessible and interesting to younger generations. Brava!

      wow, thanks so much. i am glad to read your feedback. its hard to speak put about this, because we are living in a head voice dominated operaworld, and as soon as they hear chest voice, many leave... but this is fatal 💕💕💕💕
      all the best for you

    This was an eye-opener for me. I'm not a musician, but I have participated in choirs for decades. And last Saturday, we went to see Mozart's requiem. The concert was lovely, the choir excellent, but the four solo vocalists were - in my opinion - atrocious. So I started researching the subject on youtube, and started learning about "old" vs "new" school opera singers. Since I don't have a trained ear, I don't always hear the differences between head- and chest-voice participation, especially if sung by different people. So it was very interesting and enlightening to have you sing both ways, because I could then really grasp the difference. What I also realized, is that - as you said - the head-voice is accompanied by very little mouth movement, and that you looked (sorry, but that was the image) as if you were holding a pingpong ball in your mouth. Whereas with the chest voice participation, your mouth movement was much bigger and versatile, and your face looked more normal. No offence meant, but visual clues can help people with untrained ears like mine, I think. Anyway. Thank you very much for that demonstration, and I wish you the best!

    Oh yes!! At 53, coming back to singing after a 2nd life of 25 years, and finding I'm trying to pull the head way down. I spent most of my early sing life constantly being told to lighten up and find my head voice. We'll it seems I finally found it 😅 now I'm discovering a chest I never discovered or developed.

    Saludos!

    i agree about chest voice even in contemporary music, people are looking to keep the voice high, and the early pop singers had more body, that is why Tom Jones has kept his chest voice through decades, now going back to Opera Corelli had a fine chest voice, he was a Tenor ofcourse, but when he exploded into chest, was magnificent, so i agree with you it is neglected today more so than the early greats.

      @UnityCZ This lovely lady has helped me find my chest voice by her previous video about doing the breathing out whilst hissing. The lower muscle pulls in and I have been using my upper apps to try squeeze out the sounds. The hissing exercise I start with the hiss to get the engagement correct then try to hold that engagement whilst singing the rest of the line.

      Yes, exactly… we need to bring that back. And the main and important aspect of this is, to understand, that it is not the pure chest voice I am talking about… it is the mixing of the chest voice as portions in to the entire range, until the high notes. It helps to keep contact with chest resonation. For example the chest bone. I always try to lean on my voice on to my chest bone and that way i feel this chest voice resonation very well… and that way i dont lose contact. Mixing chest voice into the voice, means getting in to the body with the voice. Meaning putting the voice into the body and connecting voice and body… but nobody nowadayas is talking about this….

      @@UnityCZ your chest voice is actually your speaking voice.. the pure chest voice I mean. But if you want to go in higher ranges, then you need to mix the head voice with the chest voice. So you actually use a portion of your chest voice and mix it into your entire range. The more you sing higher, then less chest voice participation is used, but it never actually stops. Chest voice mixing into the voice can be felt when you feel chest resonation ringing into your voice. Keep your voice near your chest bone and feel the resonation of the chest. That will bring you closer to the chest voice. Bring you singing voice near your speaking voice.. yes actors are in their chest voice all the time… that is a good path to follow…

    This video helped me to find my true speaking voice. For years I have spoken with a constricted voice and could not even produce words with expression. When you revealed that chest voice is speaking voice it allowed me to find the problem and now I can express myself better than ever. Thank you so much for sharing as you have literally changed my life.

    I’ve been working on this! So helpful!
    Where in the soprano register is it too high to try and keep that mix? For example, i think i can mix up to F3/G3. Is that too low to switch into head voice?

  • @marinka424

    Why are they trying to eliminate chest voice. I’m not a singer, but I love opera and can hear a massive difference. It’s almost as if they’re trying to exclude the really talented singers who can use chest voice, and promote mediocre singers who use mainly head voice, but why?

    Hi! I'm a beginner and I don't really understand this can you mix more chest voice like this? I can't sing high notes in a chest voice. Thank you for explaining

    • @sevanasalmasi
      @sevanasalmasi  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hi. you should not ding high notes in chest voice, but mix it a bit in your range. the more dou go up in range, the less chest voice portion you dhould feel.

    How can I feel chest voice? Can I only think about it?

    • @sevanasalmasi
      @sevanasalmasi  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, thanks for the question. No, you can actually feel the portion of chest voice. In the lowest part of your Voice range, you will anyway go into chest voice… but if you get into your middle range and upper range… you should always mix a bit of chest voice participation into your entire range… you can still be connected with your chest voice when you start feeling resonation on your chest bone for example. This is one way to feel the chest voice. The chest bone is resonating a lot in your chest voice range… and if you still can keep a bit of that feeling of resonation t your chest bone when you sing higher, than you are actually mixing the chest voice with middle voice. But if you lose contact to the resonation in your chest bone, when you sing higher, then the chest voice participation got lost. I hope I could help you a bit.
