That mix of pain , separation , resentment, anger and loss will break anyone.

Well can you blame her? At the beginning of the movie, they said the mom made promises that she couldn’t keep. No matter how bad a mom is, a child is always going to want her mom. Lizzie has been wanting a mom to depend on for so long and the scene shows how desperate she wanted this to work out and she didn’t want to believe it’s the same scenario all over again where her mom promised to take her home and once again she choose drugs over her child.

Siobhan Conneely You need to understand that even if they went back with their mom, it wouldn’t be a home because she wouldn’t love them. People take all foster homes as a bad thing but there’s times where it’s the best thing because there are many foster parents who actually love the children they take in when the biological parents don’t want them. You can see that a lot of foster parents love the children but because of the word “foster”, everyone thinks there’s no way it can be a home.

She has the maturity and knowledge to understand her own situation better. She's the oldest and had to act as an authority and support figure to the youngest.
They on the other hand has Lizzie as this support. And the youngest does not have enough knowledge of the extent of the situation. Awareness.
Liz the older sibling had to stay strong in their face, in order to act as a support system.
She's also the one that kept more hope and kept trying to fix the situation as the older sibling. The disappointment and hurt is even stronger for her then.
      It's pretty much simple.

I get it that Lizzy wanted to be out of the system and wanted things to be normal again with her mom, but I felt that Lizzy was carrying more for herself than for Lina and Juan. That was not fair to force something that was not ready nor ideal. That her mom was not in the condition to be not to be a mom. Lizzy's mother will always be her mother, but never her mom because her mother did not have the capability to be responsible, care, nor love her own children as a real mom would. Those are the requirements to being a true mom.

I was a foster kid, and let me tell you, the day my mom didn't show up for a visitation because she was too drunk was one of the most crushing moments of my life. It was at that moment that I knew that she loved alcohol and drugs more than she loved me.

It's a sad reality. The biological parents ditch their kids and wait for someone rich to adopt them. Since the biological parents can take back their kids at any point in time, they blackmail the rich adoptive parents to pay them lots of money to keep the kids.

Not everyone adopts kids because they're rich, some take kids under their wing because sometimes biological parents knows that they don't have the proper income tax to take of their kids, so they give them to someone else, some biological parents don't want their kids to make the same mistakes they made, etc
