Just started watching your build for research. For anyone not in the know you can clean and sharpen scrapers with an electric sander. Just purchase the thickest scraper you can find 😉
I just started watching you the last few months and went back to the beginning and just about spit my false teeth out when I saw Joe's hair! So glad Danni didn't look at the hair and run! You look much better now than you did at the beginning. I've been enjoying your redo of the boat I love your channel keep up the good work and enjoy your life! Thinking of you from Ohio, USA!
Its very important to apply Vactan rust treatment before you apply the bitumen. The bitumen alone won't stop the rust, it will just slow its progress, so you will still have the rust problem. After the vactan treatment, apply red oxide and then apply the bitumen to seal it off. Cheers
Thanks for the advice! We just used bitumen as a semi preventive measure as it’s had a complete replete over the bottom. Will bare than in mind for the future though, thank you!
Yeah they should have done rust treatment first because you want to hope their isn’t a need to have to take your floor up in the future once the boat is done they should watch winging it boating on a budget they did the floor in their boat and did rust treatment and by the look of the floor on this boat for the amount of rust it definitely needed rust treatment and by the amount of water they had to pump out on the first video they don’t know how long that water was sat rusting the floor but it’s all a learning curve for them but as said is a few others doing boats up right now on TH-cam and they could give good advice I wish them all the best of luck and hope it all works out and as said it’s a learning curve and I only know what to do because of the tight Yorkshire man and Dawn on winging it boating on a budget
I was worried that if you dug too hard, you might discover CANAL. Great to see 'Your Conversion' from the start. There are many sites out there that can give sage advice so, although its hard work, you'll only have to do it once. Don't worry about the "Fluffs", thats what makes us human. Also, for all your foraging needs i recommend a book ( which i had in 1972 when it first came out ) still readily available called FOOD FOR FREE by Richard Mabey which is a guide to over 100 edible plants, berries, mushrooms, seaweed and shellfish, all beautifully illustrated and now available through COLLINS GEM. I love wild garlic, or ramsons, which i now have growing under my hedges, yum. But you missed a trick there, what about the PROPER JOB, St. Austell beers then? my lovelies.
Haha it was a bit scary at first but no canal in site. Yes we already have the book, really love wild garlic. We discovered lots of mushrooms in Sweden last year it was incredible. Mmm we love proper job St Austell! Thanks for watching
Hi Guys! Just found your channel and am watching from the start of your boat journey chronologically as you are such lovely characters to live vicariously through! Danni as a MH nurse I'm sure you'll understand when i say that as someone with ADHD this video had me feeling overwhelm via empathy😂 I'd love to have the sense of serendipity to see all that work ahead of me and water coming through the windows and keep a level head! Hope it continues (well i know it goes ok cos having lived in beautiful Brizzle for a decade i couldn't help sneak ahead to watch the video of you in Bristol Harbour!- it was gert lush!). Good luck with your journey! Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos❤
You guys are so great and your NARROWBOAT looks fantastic you both should be so proud and smiling what you've accomplished and achieved bless you BOTH 😊😊👍👍💯💯💯
I'm in Washington State and your accent is just fine! I can understand 95% of what you say! Love following newbies and watch how they progress!! Enjoy your project!!
All power to your elbows you two. You seem to have the determination to get things done to the best of your ability. Which is great. Enjoy your work, it’s looking good.
Thank you! are you making your way through the build series? Hopefully you'll see our skills develop through the videos, we've come a long way since this video!
Hi good luck with the restoration. Your boat was designed with a wet bilge as a lot of older boats were. All the water from the bow drains along the length of the boat to the stern where it can be pumped out by a bilge pump. For obvious reasons not a great idea which is why modern boats are built with dry bilges. I suspect your drainage pipe will block with debris. You might want to consider having the drain hole at the bow drain into a sump under the bow deck with an automatic bilge pump fitted in the sump so that the water doesn't have to travel the length of the boat before it's pumped out.
Thanks for the comment! That’s a good suggestion, it’s a shame the bow floor is almost at water level as I’d have liked to have a run off but not possible!
Great vlog much easier for this elderly partially deaf Aussie to understand. It is easy for someone sitting here as a arm chair expert to hand out free advice, but the only non professional advice I would be tempted to give would be to think and plan ahead particularly as to the location of services and facilities. Remember he who fails to plan, plans to fail! Keep the good work!
Thank you! Yes definitely, we’re fortunate that we’ve had to plan similar before when we converted our van, this is a much bigger scale but we learnt how important where services etc are located
Hi Both. Came across your channel just by chance a few days ago, and started with the buying the boat vlog. Enjoyed it lots so we're subscribed and following your story, and catching up with all the other videos. Really impressed by how much work you guys are putting into renovating the boat - it will be stunning when you finish - but are these things ever really finished ?! Thanks for sharing - looking forward to more. Stay safe. George and Trish - CaravanningMacs
Sorry we missed this comment! Thank you so much! It's definitely stretching our capabilities but we're just trying to enjoy the process and learn as much as we can
Thanks for the advice! We just used bitumen as a semi preventive measure as it’s had a complete replete over the bottom. Will bare than in mind for the future though, thank you!
Good progress with the floor - what a job! Regarding the audio - you just need to adjust on the edit - I use Shotcut (because I'm on a linux based o/s) it's not bad. Of course, it all takes extra time.
Ooof. I can see why some people use bricks or concrete pavers. There might be a lot of up+down involved in moving those, but they're a lot lighter than this.
How did you guys come up with the Narrowboat idea? I have watched so many narrowboat videos last year. I can't believe you guys bought one. It's a lot of work. But you guys seem to know what you doing.
We've joked about the idea for a while, toying with different tiny home ideas and this boat popped up on eBay whilst we were in Italy. It was perfect for our budget so we bit the bullet & rushed home!
You would be better running the water straight out the front just cut out a drain hole, saves the water coming inside your boat!! best to keep the bilges where possible clean and dry !!
Thanks for the comment! It’s a really weird design because the bow deck is almost at water level so unable to go straight through the side of the hull!
I disagree with your accent being hard to understand. I guess I have been watching too many narrowboat channels that I’m getting used to the many different British accents. It’s like living in the USA, depends where you live what your accent sounds like. Sometimes I can’t understand people who live in my own country the accents and slang words of each region are so different. Loving going back to see all of your videos. Cheers from New Jersey, USA.
I'm from Cheshire and find a Somerset accent very easy to listen to, just one word you use quite a lot that i don't understand and never heard in my part of the world is 'DRIVE' i assume it means mate or friend? tried Google but nothing forthcoming. Can anyone enlighten me. Thanks
Funny, buy a boat, then people show you its history. Word for the wise, get a good draw plane or spray foam knife that is about 2 ft long. It will save time leveling the spray foam. It took me forever, until I sharpened some sheet metal about 2 inches wide and about 2 ft long. You can get hand blades or ones for the hand power saws. It will be interesting watching you fit out the little boat.
That rubber hose will clog with debris AND become ineffective. Perhaps you ought to cut a hole in the side of the boat close to the drainage hole in the stern above the water line (and use a short bit of hose to the drain hole)? Bad design relying on that long run of rubber hose just to get to the (old) bilge pump at the other end of your boat. Seriously.
Thanks for your comment! It really is a bad design, I did think about having a hole straight out the side but the stern deck is really low (possibly almost at water height (I will double check). I will keep access to the drain hole and pipe incase of a blockage I should be able to clear it, I’ve been advised possibly swapping the rubber hose over to solid but not sure if that’ll help at all.

Thank you so much!
All the restoration phases were exciting 🎉 I'm curious about some tips for buying a project boat.
We suggest you watch this video;
th-cam.com/video/sl2lVDNFrYY/w-d-xo.html
Hi just a quick tip don't forget to put Packers back under the slabs to keep them off the floor
Thanks Andy yes there’s a gap between them and the floor as a thin steel beam? runs through
I'm in Washington State and your accent is just fine! I can understand 95% of what you say! Love following newbies and watch how they progress!! Enjoy your project!!
Thank you! After a few pints of cider I’m sure it would be down to 50%! Thanks again

Hi from central Pennsylvania and I find your accents the easiest to understand, out of all the narrow boat vlogs I watch. Great video thank you.
Thank you so much!
Greetings from Florida! Your accents aren't in the least hard to understand. Keep up the good work.
That’s reassuring, thank you!

Looks great so far 👍
Thank you!
G'day from Oz, new to your channel and looking forward to the restoration. Love the accent, reminds me of mates in Bristol. The boat is gurt lush! 😃
That’s brilliant. We’re about 30 minutes away from Bristol, what a city! Reading gurt lush in an oz/Somerset accent made us laugh!
Watching you moving the ballast slabs around is making me realise that I should probably try to look for a boat with ballast bricks...
Yeah I think bricks are the ideal scenario - although I'm glad we had slabs rather than gravel!
Good luck renovating the boat! 👍
Thank you!
I’m really enjoying the videos. BTW, I’m in America and can understand everything you say.
That's reassuring, thanks for watching!
Greetings from South Africa
Will be following your project
Good luck
Thank you!
Brilliant work guys can't understand a bloody word you say. Never could 🤭😄
Hahaha. Translation scene in Hot Fuzz comes to mind mate

Hi , treat rust with aqua seal, it cures the rust
Thanks for the advice! We just used bitumen as a semi preventive measure as it’s had a complete replete over the bottom. Will bare than in mind for the future though, thank you!
Massive respect
Thank you!
Stickers on the car love it 🌍😍
She’s been to more countries than some of our friends! 😂🥰
@@ItsOhJoe brilliant 👌🏼😂

Thank you! Yes just about getting the hang of it we’re using final cut.
Thanks for the vlog, good luck.
Thank you!
Love your vlog, just found you. Good luck, looks like you are doing it correctly. I agree the green is awful.
Thank you!
Keep up the good work
Thanks Roy!
I wish to be in your skin guys! Good job!
Thanks!
It keeps the water from trapping underneath and let them dry out naturally
Thanks Andy!
Ooof. I can see why some people use bricks or concrete pavers. There might be a lot of up+down involved in moving those, but they're a lot lighter than this.
Yes definitely! We worked with what we had though
How did you guys come up with the Narrowboat idea? I have watched so many narrowboat videos last year. I can't believe you guys bought one. It's a lot of work. But you guys seem to know what you doing.

Great vid dont loose your accents its great thanks again
Thanks for watching!!
Can I ask what would it cost these days to overplate the underside of a older B oat these days Tia Alan
Hi guys, new to the channel. Do you mind if I ask if you’re in Oxfordshire? Thanks for the content
Hi welcome! We’re in Bradford-on-Avon (Wiltshire!) Thanks
👍
Thanks!
Ok in my fantasy, my narrowboats will not need any work. 😮
You would be better running the water straight out the front just cut out a drain hole, saves the water coming inside your boat!! best to keep the bilges where possible clean and dry !!

Proper jobbbb. 🤣🤣🤣
Somerset & proud 😂😂

👍👌🇨🇦❤,
Sorry I would have loved to watch the vlogs, but far too many long ads, but good luck anyway.
