I wish the 12k views would have hit that like button. Thanks for everything you do and great review of the mag. I have been running these for a couple years now and am just as impressed. Again, thanks for doing what you do.
Awesome test! I did a series of videos where I torture tested pmags and L5AWMs. I was amazed at how tough they were. The gen2 pmag failed badly but the gen3 held up much better. I was unable to kill the L5AWM. I think both the gen3 pmag and the L5AWM are outstanding mags but I think the pmag is generally over rated and the L5AWM is generally under rated. One of the biggest problems with pmags is people have no idea how much difference there is between gen2 and gen3. It was night and day in my testing. I'll never buy another gen2 pmag.
Bitchin' RamCharger! I worked in Quality Assurance for 10+ years at an injection molding plant. In my experience with destructive testing, which was with exclusively with PP and HDPE resin, the addition of color into the resin mixture always made it more brittle. Not sure what resin these magazines use, but it's possible that the translucent ones are a completely different melt flow index / density than the solid color ones are.
According to who/what source is the translucent polymer less durable than the opeque polymer? I'm no engineer either but i work with bunch of different plastics as a machinist and they have very unique features. There are a bunch of translucent plastics that are more durable than some opaque ones.
Yes, I emailed Lancer asking that & they won't even respond. Would be tough to justify a higher price on an inferior plastic. People that have both of them have said the clear colors are noticeably more flexible, though I don't know how that translates into strength. If it is more flexible, to me, that would seem it would be less likely to crack when impacted.. An engineer has said that clear plastics typically have less percentage of glass in them.
nice work. Lancer L5 AWM mags are s probably my favorites too. Magpul P-mags, both gen 2 and gen 3 are solid too as are GI aluminum mags from Okay Industries with Magpul yellow anti-tilt followers installed of course. those are my top 3 mags. ETS clear mags have proven pretty good too and i have 1 Promag RM roller mag that has been totally reliable as well. i have a bunch of Troy battlemags that load and feed well but the baseplate design is a joke. i wont trust my life to them. overall the Lancers, Magpuls and good old GI aluminum mags are all i need but if i could only have 1 it would probably be the Lancers.
Cool video! I live in the UK, and we can only have “straight pull” AR15’s here - you have to rack the charging handle for each shot. I have a HERA ARMS side charging handle which is pretty fast to be honest. We can have 30 round mags, and I use Lancers and Pmags, but prefer the Lancers. Good review mate!
I dropped them on hard surfaces from the Magwell with 25 rounds in them and always have one to three rounds pop out I own two of these in the completely clear version video makes me feel a little better about them.
Do you still use Lancer magazines? In your recent videos I've seen GI aluminum magazines. I've heard others having problems with Aluminum and Steel magazines bending, being strong and reliable only for some time before moving out of shape from drops. I think having the Magpul and Lancer windowed is great for seeing your round count. My only concern is the steel lips on lancer becoming bent, and they also do put a mark or line on brass ammunition. Others have said that Lancers plastic feels cheap and flexible compared to magpul. Lancers also have a reputation for always having a small problem with popping out ammo when banged hard, possibly causing a malfunction. Lancer does have a greater window size than magpul, so you can know if your on your last round.
The only thing lancer has that better than pmag is spring steel feed lips. There’s many reasons why pmags were chosen for the marines after vigorous testing and field testing and not lancers
I'm never going to put any of my mags through such hardship, but I know what they can take. I like the translucent smoke of the lancer mags. Will probably get the 20 rounders for my Ar pistol I'm building. Much OBLIGED for the video >:0
Another great video! Check out the Daniel Defense mags. Best out there by far! Stronger, more rigid and lighter than Lancers. They also work perfectly with all 300 blackout ammo I've tested.
+Custom Edge Works I mention those in my newest torture test that I just finished editing. I really want to try those out. I've only put a handful of rounds through those mags, but I like they way they look and feel. Hearing that they run well with 300 BLK makes me even more intrigued!
OreGear well you can't go wrong with Lancers! I have many for both 5.56 and 308, but the DDs are really impressive. Hope you like them as much as I do. Also, the new Magpul Pmag 300 works great for 300blk. But 2 less rounds than the DDs.
Great video as usual and very entertaining to watch on a product Im interested in. Thank the lord you did not let your wonderful assistant pee on your rifle, way to maintain some control with important boundaries :D
Just bought a bunch of the translucent mags different colors and also some pmags Gen 3 and the big difference I can tell is the polymer is weaker that’s the only thing I can see is too much pressure or getting hit hard enough to cause a bulge or damage the spring
I like lancer mags but the plastic feed lips on pmags are superior for steel case ammo. The plastic mags have a lot less friction. Even unloading a lancer mag by hand loaded with steel case ammo is a lot more difficult.
Dude super badass review! Just out of curiosity if you find yourself in that situation where your magazines got abused like this.. could you possibly clean the magazine up again and fix the follower with a screw driver and just see how it still runs after a few mags through it?
Would like to see how they hold up to solvents and chemicals, such as the Deet used in bug juice. If you still have the mags you tested, will you soak them and find out?
OreGear yeah 3 years late, liked the video too. Starting to build my first AR now that I have a big boy job and was looking for which mags to get. Helped a lot. Thanks.
It appears they ejected out of the mag well okay. I couldn't tell for sure though. That is an issue I am having with mine. Just got them and tried them out for fit in a couple rifles. They fit a bit too well so as to not want to fall free from the mag well when I eject them. Bolt closed mag empty or loaded they drag on the inside of the well enough to require a firm pull to get them out. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this with these or other mags. I should point out that I am old school and my other mags have all been GI aluminum ones. Those never have this issue, but they also fit looser.

Definitely another Hexmag Test Victory. You may skew your data enough to say this test was a push, but it wasn't.

If one were to study your data, the Hexmag did not drop rounds under the Ram or the drop tests, it did not get dented at all from the drop tests, where the Lancer lost polymer chipped off the front corners, bottom plate and both sides and left the rounds inside unprotected as it allowed rounds to get crushed to warping. The Hex also left fewer rounds unfired on the ground in the shooting tests. And it still fired great after being shot so badly the Hexmag spring was sticking out of the side. Definitely another Hexmag Test Victory. You may skew your data enough to say this test was a push, but it wasn't.
Hexmag has plastic feed lips....deal killer right there dude
Dudes really out here still defending the worst mags on the market. Hex mags and amend 2 and swear they are miles better than pmag, lancer and okay lmao
What's your go to mag so far?
+Brandon D I've been transitioning over to Lancers for the last year or so. PMAGs are good, but I prefer lancers.
those are HARDENED steel lips, I doubt it bent! clean it out and I bet it'll work!
+BangSwitch you can tell by the way the rounds are stacking that the rear section of the steel has been compressed. Plus RamChargers are heavy!
OK blind Gen Xer!
Don't believe your lying eyes.
Stopped watching at 3:07. A mag test to be done with 30 rounds in the magazine & 1 in the chamber. Not 30 rnds in mag & 0 in chamber as you did.. Even if you download your magazines normally, you still need to test them full.
you are an idiot..just go away
