I’m pretty sure the saws should be stored facing the wall though🤦♀️just a common sense safety concern. You wouldn’t want to bump that on accident with the blade facing out.
Clever yet simple design. I may have to think about making one of these for my shop - only, I think I would use a screwed-on top in case I ever needed to get into those locking dowels.
That's a cool system that saves a lot of space, but I can imagine it being a pain to use? The saw blades facing towards you, along with the narrow slot makes me think you'll need to be careful when storing and retrieving the saw. I guess I need to build one to see for myself!
Hallo, sehr gute Idee werde ich nachbauen . Danke fürs zeigen, deine Projekte sind gut macht mir immer viel Spaß. Wünsche dir ein schönes Wochenende viele Grüße Christel 👍
I love the simplicity of this holder. For me, I would make one side deep enough so that no teeth are exposed. For safety reasons and to prevent anything accidentally hitting the exposed teeth. So yes you have inspired me. Thank you!!
Nice and clean design. For version 2 you can try with some plastics like delrin or nylon at the front and back, which would protect the wood and you can put in the saws with the edge inwards. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼 Subscribed as a fellow 🇸🇪
Same idea behind broom holders. Cool idea for tool holders. I’d maybe add some kind of rubberized material just to ensure no slippage. Great idea though!
Fantastic design, elegant in its simplicity and function. Thank you for the silent presentation. I'm not against a certain type and amount of vocal explanation, but for this project it wouldn't have been at all necessary, so again, thanks for leaving narration and all the other frivolous content out/to a minimum. First video of your's I have stumbled across, and it is enough to earn me as a subscriber. I'll have to browse your other content some other time, I have a saw holder to go build. Thanks for that!
Clever use of geometry and gravity but the exposed teeth are a safety hazard. There are other older methods to store saws that are better but I really like the use of the spatula to spread glue. That is the best idea in this video!
That’s exactly what I was saying. especially if your someone who stores tools in your garage.. if your not careful doing something in a garage you could bump it.
I use a magnet from my kitchen knives Wall mount :) works perfectly for the same in the workshop. But this build is engineering on a higher level 😅 well done
You are planning a saw till? Do you use all your saws an equal amount? I certainly do not... Tool storage can be evaluated by how fast they deliver a tool to your hand when you require it. All else is secondary. I store saws (and everything else) where I most use that item, in the order of frequency of use. Some tools I have duplicates, when they are commonly used in more than one place. Poor storage steals your time, both in access delay and trying to find them when returning them is discouraged by said storage. You are not curating a tool display (or are you?) but arranging storage for efficiency.
Two great ideas in one video - the saw holder and the French cleat lock. I don't need a saw holder, but I think the mechanism could be adapted to make a simple handle for carrying large sheets of plywood, glass, etc.
TH-cam can be scary I was only thinking about redoing my saw holder today😮 I’m unapologetically stealing this idea, it’s excellent !. I’ll pay you back by subscribing 😂👍🏻 nice video
Reminds me of a towel holder i built many years ago, though it used a marble instead. If that's insulating tape, it can start to unravel and get sticky, specially if you stretched it while applying If you find this happens, get some heatshrink tubing, maybe the adhesive lined stuff, bonus is that it's more rubbery and grippy ;)
I first thought this sounded really good but it has a major flaw, the smal diameter. With such a small diameter it is easy the stick get jammed by tilting to much, the extra grip it has on the sides make things worse.
Great idea! I'll definitely make one of those. However, I think it would be safer to have the saw teeth facing inwards. Brush against one of those and "Ouch"!
Further thoughts. You show hand saws being held in this system- with the teeth forward, and the handles at around waist height. This means the saw has to be removed and then rotated to grasp the handle. Modifying the design to allow the storage to be teeth first, and mounted higher, has advantages. - the hand can grasp the handle at reach height, giving single touch access. - you are not grabbing sharp teeth - less valuable high storage space is utilized - the teeth are not where they can cause injury by brushing past. Small rubber balls may produce the clamping force- magnets certainly would, especially if there was a small shelf to support the handle.
Very nice and ingenious! will definitely try to emulate this in my shop. I have a few questions: how steep is the angle of the holder, if it's seen from the front? Also, is it too hard to remove a saw if it's accidentally inserted with the handle pushed all the way up?
About 65°. Never had that problem so far but i get why you ask that. It will for sure be a bit stuck but you can always pull the saw straight out from the holder, not optimal but it would work. In worse case you can always press another thin blade inside it to push the roller up and free the tool.
I may have missed something, you took forever on the boring stuff but flew right through the glue up, does the diagonal piece stay loose I the small box?
IMO I would have built it to store the blade and teeth facing inside towards the wall because Final destination. Otherwise, saved, can’t wait to make one! Thanks!
That would be optimal but over time would the sharp teethes from the saws would destroy the holder. If the holder was made in metal then sure but then all the saws would get dull instead.
I thought about that too but i came to the conclusion that removing the lids does not take long, make a few new ones and gluing them back go just as fast. But the main reason i glued it was to make the front more solid and less flappy, i like my builds to be as solid as possible.
Hey will this word with knives? And how strong is the hold? If lets say i accidentally hit the wall or the holder itself a little hard, would that fall off? Im planning to make one but isnt too sure about the strength
Pretty creative design. Curious as to where you got the idea from, or if it was an original idea or if it was inspired by a similar design elsewhere and decided to repurpose the idea. Very cool.
It’s an older idea for sure. You can look up locking saw till or gravity saw till. They all revolve around the same premise with the dowel as the mechanism but I like his addition of electrical tape to provide grip. I made one of these as well a couple years back and I don’t know how I didn’t think of the tape, I ended up using rubber bouncy balls (the little ones kids play with) and they worked out great. Still use it everyday.
Really love the simplicity and elegance of this design but I’m having an issue with my bigger hand saws staying pace securely. Some times they will stick but they mostly just slide down slowly. I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue and was able to find a solution? I did wrap the dowels with tape.
Yes i believe it would. The only issue with one big ball is the reduced contact with the blade, small blades would have much harder to stick if at all. Having multiple small rubber balls in each compartment can create problems when inserting the blade when the small balls might jam. The best solution in my mind would be to have a big solid rubber cylinder, the added weight from the solid rubber would make it even better.
@@DesireToInspire1 Great idea. My saws take up far too much space hanging on hooks. This will be my next workshop tidy-up project. Inside your ingenious contraption, howsabout a piece of pushbike inner tube, cut to the length of the dowel and wrapped around it? Would maintain surface area contact and be less slippery than, say,a chunk of plastic pipe.
That was my initial thought but I did not have at home so the tape just had to do. The tape I used is of a very high quality so I trust it will last a long time.
This is a great example of a simple design done perfectly. Well done!
I’m pretty sure the saws should be stored facing the wall though🤦♀️just a common sense safety concern. You wouldn’t want to bump that on accident with the blade facing out.
Alan's Work Shop did it eight years ago, and he had the sense to face the blades in: out is just asking to get hurt.
Clever yet simple design. I may have to think about making one of these for my shop - only, I think I would use a screwed-on top in case I ever needed to get into those locking dowels.
And a screwed on back too, if your glue joint fails, you'll have a wall full of saws falling. Can't really see a screw head on the backside.
The TH-cam algorithm liked this one… and so did I. Strong work on a functional project, something that we haven’t really seen before. Keep it up!

wow that's actually a pretty smart design! very simple and elegant!
Amazing.Haven't seen anything like this before.
