Suzy & Steejo react to Belle for the first time.
Belle is inspired by the 1756 French fairy tale Beauty and the Beast by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, with Hosoda taking cues from the 1991 Disney animated movie.

I'm pretty sure Tomo was the little angel. Beast/Dragon is his big brother, protecting him and telling him everything will be ok.

I KNEW IT!! I was sure it was him, and If he showed up like one of the three guys who defeat him before maybe it was during a friendly match where the big brother let the little one to win to make him feel strong.

The song at the end, "A Million Miles Away", isn't about the Beast; it's about her mom. She's singing about how she misses her mom.
I saw this when it was in theaters three times, and the third time I watched it I actually cried. I've been an anime fan for 15 years, and in all that time it's the only anime that got me to cry.

Oh dear, in my case it’s one of THOSE scenes where I cannot stay composed when watching it since day one and even years after first seeing it.

I truly believe it’s both. Her heart is crying out for both of them. Her mom, who she missed so much and felt was the only one who understood her, and the beast who am she understands his pain and is begging him to hear her and believe that she’s belle so he’ll tell her where he lives so she can protect him and his brother from abuse.

Whether it’s Kylie McNeill or her Japanese counterpart Kaho Nakamura, their performances as the lead heroine are spot-on magnificent!

As a grown ass 31 year old man who is married with 2 kids I have no shame in admitting this movie made me cry my eyes out in the cinema 🥹 when you realise it’s not a love story between 2 people but about loving yourself again after trauma.

Tomo is the tiny angel. The older brother always protected him, and there’s a theory tomo has some form of mental disability. So the older brother had to protect him.

I usually prefers to watch anime in sub, but the dub for this movie IS SO GOOD. Kylie Mcneill voice is so angelic and also sounds very similar to her Japanese dub counterpart voice actress which is Kaho Nakamura.

Ironic that you called her a Disney princess...the initial concept design of Bell(e) was actually done by a veteran character designer Jin Kim! If you look at the original concept sketches, you can really see the Disney influences.
I saw this when it originally came out in Japan 3 times in the cinema...Kaho Nakamura (the Japanese voice actor for Belle/Suzu) has a gorgeous voice and the dub actor, Kylie McNeil, really managed to match her almost perfectly. Watching this reaction is actually my first time to even hear the dub!

This single film accomplishes what Disney has been struggling to recreate for their past dozen movies. The plot can be super incoherent at times (although still beautiful), but on the whole it was an amazing experience and resurrected some of the magic that rival Disney USED to be so well-known for. Disney should open their eyes and see that this style of animation and musical scoring is the future, not the CGI-styled generic kids flicks, or another Star Wars film. They’ve milked all of that enough. Now people are more insulted than impressed by it.

Ohh my god I just bowl out. Like this was such a beautiful movie and her voice it gave me chills every single I've heard it. Just how was this movie so wonderful and I didn't really expected the beauty and beast's iconic balcony scene of beast falling off. Like it was just so beautiful. And it actually had a happy ending YAY

One can say that Mamoru Hosoda purposely releases a film with a cyberspace theme each decade.
The late 90s: Our War Games via Digimon.
      The late 2000s: Summer Wars
      Early 2020s: Belle

Thank you guys for reacting to such an amazing movie 🎥.
    🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰⛄⛄⛄.
This really shows when you really help someone in such pain and sorrow like the beast and his younger brother who honestly needs the love he wasn't getting around a father like that. Honestly first seeing that scene is beyond disturbing cause the abuse he was doing to his own child. So seeing belle's character going all the way down to where they actually live by herself is honestly a true friend and guardian angel 😇 to get them out of that place.
I really loved when the younger brother basically just ran to her like if she was his mother that's truly wholesome.
Thanks again for you both for reacting to such a special movie. The music was beyond awesome.
I have definitely have both versions of the songs cause honestly I never heard anyone sing so beautiful 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

I'm definitely a sub person although I do resort to dubs when I'm multitasking. I think for this film in particular it is easier to access the dub which might be why there are more reactions with that version. This is also why why I got the blu-ray; to have access to the original audio. That said, the English voices and Singing is actually very well done!

@@hashimotoikuko9774 I'm not putting Ghibli films down. I'm saying I think others are better.
Howls Moving Castle is a masterpiece, but Miyazaki only did it because Mamoru Hosoda was supposed to do it, but they wouldn't let him finish it his way, so eventually it was paused, until Miyazaki finished it himself.

Unpopular opinions - I dislike how the "Beauty and the Beast" story and aesthetic were shoehorned so forcibly into an otherwise cosmic-futuristic setting, and I *really* dislike how they took a subject as serious and intricate as child domestic abuse and essentially resolved it with "Trust in yourself and you can overcome anything!"
Popular opinions - this movie looks and sounds *stunning*, and ten times more so in a cinema, as I was lucky enough to do (I saw it with subs but I'm pleased that the English holds up against the Japanese pretty well). And the plot aside from the two points mentioned above is great, the characters, the dialogue, the direction. Like you, I loved that scene of Kayak Guy and Sax Girl slowly, painfully confessing to one another; the way it's done from a single "camera" angle over several minutes is brilliant.
I spent today trying to guess which Ghibli movie was coming tonight and ended up spectacularly wrong, but it's only a good thing. Looking forward to the next ones!

    • @PeachWookiee
      @PeachWookiee ปีที่แล้ว +5

I think the abuse situation and how Suzu essentially risked her life confronting the… donor for how he treated those boys was more than a “trust yourself” moment. Japan is reckoning with abuse now and it’s not easy.
ETA: Historically, allegations have been left up to the head of the family to deal with. But now, they're realizing the fallacy of such a tactic.
