Oh, also, I cut a little piece of fabric softener sheet and put a piece in each sequin container. That way it keeps them static free all the time. I learned that trick with diamond painting.
They came out so cute! My next one is going to be the jack o lantern too. One tip I've found useful for satin stitch is to make the first stitch down the middle of the design outline. Then make another one a little away from the center line on both sides. Kind of like segmenting it in quarters. Then I go back and fill in the blank areas. I'm not good at explaining it. lol I'll make a little video if you want. It makes the stitches more even than starting at one end
I can't wait to see your jack o lantern! The way you do you satin stitch is how I 'try' to do mine as well. It just falls into place sometimes and other times it's a major fail, lol!
Great job! I thread my embroidery needle the same way you do but I never mastered the knot. My dear Mother tried showing it to me many times but I never could master the move. Needless to say, it has not stopped me stitching all these years.
Haha, well I may have mastered that knot technique, but I can't do a quilters knot AT ALL, lol. And I used to be a quilter! Some things just don't click :)
Great tutorial! Can't decide whether the cat or the owl is my favorite. For the white stitches showing on the black felt, I take a black permanent marker and gently rub it over the stitches to hide them. Happy Fall 😊🎃
@@calico_whimsy Oh! I meant to say, have you ever tried Karen F Buckley scissors? They grab the felt beautifully because of the serrated edge. The small ones (green handled) are particularly good at cutting out the tiny bits. 😊
Hi Christine, I always enjoy all of your videos, but the felt applique ones are so fun to watch. Your kits are darling and you do a great job with the appliques. Thank you for all the great tips and tricks. Hope you continue to do videos with the felt applique. Take care😊.
They are all too cute, but the owl is definitely my favorite. You did a wonderful job as usual. And now that you're a "leg" expert, the reindeer kit is next! If you start that kit, I'm definitely going to have to get one also even though I'm still working on the cardinals. 😁
Thank you! As soon as I get through all my Halloween kits ( or at least make a dent in them), I'll have to think about those reindeer! That's a lot of legs, though 😆
More inspiration! Thanks for breaking down the various steps with the outline stitch, sequins, and beads. Any chance we can see a bit of the assembly and stuffing process? I'm really enjoying watching the felt ornaments come to life. They are all so cute!
These are so cute! Love them! Love seeing how you made them. Made 2 little felt ornaments last Christmas and I should really start making more it is so much fun!
Christine these are fabulous! You’re very clever! I can just imagine the mess I’d make as stuff like this is way out of my capabilities 😅. Great work ❤
I'm not usually into anything Halloween, but these turned out adorable! Great tips, especially for those of us who have several of these kits but have lacked the confidence to actually attempt doing them. Thanks for showing this. The only other thing I need before starting one is to watch a video of someone actually showing the whole process of appliqueing the pieces together & stuffing them, then I'd be good to go. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a video of that. Every one that I've watched skips through that part, I guess assuming that people already know how. I'm so glad fall is here! Love seeing all your projects. 😊🍂🎃🕷️
I'll try my best to show the whole process in a future video. The challenging part for me will be getting the camera set up in a way that I can record close up AND see what I'm doing at the same time. 🤣
@@calico_whimsy That would be awesome, & what you've already shown in your videos has already been very helpful & answered a lot of the other questions I had about how to do them, so thank you! 😊
@@justchellebee2425 Have you watched Jennifer's (the Good Life) channel? I learned so much from her. She shows lots of close up details of stuffing and applique. Let me know if you need the link
@@calico_whimsy I'm not sure if she's the one whose channel I watched a few videos from or not, so yes if you could please share that link I'd appreciate it, thanks.
Did these this summer! did the skull in a Day of the Dead theme by adding sequins around the eyes and leaving off the hat. The spider was the fussiest!
They look great, Christine! This probably sounds silly, but I was wondering if you could show us sometime how to make the beaded hanging loops? I've got some Mill Hill Santas that I want to stitch and I've been wondering how to make it so it's nice and firm and then also how to attach it between the paper and the felt.
Not silly at all! As a matter of fact, I already have a video that shows how to do it. It's buried deep within a flosstube video, so I'll have to find it and sen you the link :)
I found it! I guess it got it's own special video, lol! I don't think youtube will let me send a link, but it's Flosstube #77. It was one of my Floss-O-Ween episodes. Let me know if you can't find it :)
Hi Christine! Love the tutorial. I never did a felt project. But yours look so pretty 😍 I love the tip you gave with the dryer sheet? So that the white things doesn't stick to your finger. I love the cat!! He's cute Are you also coming back with a flossstube? Looking forward to that. Much love from The Netherlands 🇳🇱 in Europe. And a little clip from your garden oh I love those little clips. My youngest daughter also named Christine.😘
Thank you! Yes, I'll be back with a Flosstube at the end of the month! As for my garden, it will have to wait until next year as my garden really didn't amount to much this year except lots of weeds, sadly. You chose a great name for you daughter, IMO :)
Wow! That’s a lot of sequins! These are so cute. I love the vintage/retro look of these! Will you hang these on that Halloween tree you bought a few years ago? I think you found it at a Target store on sale? Don’t quite remember. I finally found a cheesy little Halloween tree at the Dollar Tree for $1.25! 😂. Hey, it will do the trick! (Or treat?)👻
Thank you Liz! Since these are a bit too big for my Halloween tree, I have a plan to hang them from my Halloween garland that I put on my mantel. Haven't quite figured out how, but I'll try to share a pic or video of how it looks :) I have seen those Dollar store trees and they are cute! The one I saw was black and orange and you can't beat the price!
Welcome to my channel! I rarely do swaps after having a negative experience many years ago :( If I do them now, it's usually with people I know. Have you done any swaps?
@@calico_whimsy I’ve only done paper crafts swaps I do swaps mainly with a YT named vianney creates she organizes them very well. I’m barely getting in to this sewing craft, you should give it a try again sorry to hear you had a bad experience 😳
Christine, I’ve finished my cat, but my kit didn’t have a complete backing. When I checked off each step after double checking everything, the back of the jester collar was exposed. I dug in the wastebasket for the black felt trimmings and covered them individually. Kind of a PITA, but it’s done.
I think I'm getting better at judging it for sure! The earier kit I did with the Cardinals and birdhouses were definitely busting at the seems 🤣🤣 Live and learn!
I 🧡 the orange sequined eyes! Great idea!
Thanks! The more bling, the better! ☺️
Absolutely!
I can't believe how cute the spider turned out!!! still obsessed with his tiny boots
Thanks Morgan :) You should have seen me trying to tie those tiny laces, lol!
I loved all of your “upgrade” suggestions!
for those white stitches on the back of the owl you can take a black sharpie and just go over them, it works like a charm.
Okay, you finally did. I’m sold. I’m getting a kit. Soooo cute. You make the fiddliness look fun.
Do it!!! I can't wait to see what you what you will make!
So cute Christine! I'm working on the Kitty Treat stocking and plan to have it done by Christmas.
I can't wait to see it all finished up!

Oh no 😬I have learned to now keep all my scrap felt for this exact reason! You just never know if you're gonna need to use them ! 👍☺️
Let me assure you that too much stuffing around the edges looks overstuffed and pushes the seams. Yours are perfectly stuffed.
