Also proud member of the Eclectic Outlier club! I watch your videos while crocheting and working. I had subscribed before this video was even half way done playing.
I didn't know this channel existed until today. I enjoy your commentary and as much as I love your crafting content I'm really enjoying watching you and Phil saving that beautiful Victorian home! ❤
Well I think it's important to be quite up front about the fact that I'm not just born with a crazy good business sense... it was acquired over many years and with many mistakes along the way, lots of learning experiences. I think that there's a huge disconnect in our society due in large part to the fact that nobody talks about their mistakes or lessons that were learned along the way. Social media promotes only sharing successes, looking great and glamourous and successful, and sweeping under the rug any downfalls or mistakes, but this is not realistic to the way life is, and I think it's important to be very clear about that!
Woo hoo! We're outliers! 😃❤ I love your videos, Shannon and you can count on me to follow you. I'm looking forward to the 2 hour unboxing video and doing some embroidery and crocheting while I watch/ listen.

@@CraftsyPenguin I'm overdue for an eye doctor appointment, so I first saw this as Otter club (which I'm *so* here for. And therefore I'm now thinking of us as the Outlier Otters 😁
Committed second channel viewers are usually the ultimate outliners but are also often the most supportive demographic in a community. I’m very excited to have more snarky company while I putter around the sewing room 😊
On fb one of my meme groups I was in got popular fast. I replied to the mod post about it with "I'll miss you! I know you'll be batting down bots and trolls too often to keep up the community but it was great while it lasted." And it got toxic quick. Videos got reported for no reason, people got phished and hacked and caused trouble. Ugh. Sad and exhausting. Authenticity is refreshing and needed.
Outlier here! Crafting nerd. House renovating nerd. Cute dogs nerd. Someone who has often wondered about many of the things you shared in this video. I'll watch and/or listen to you share quite a bit. (That house plant near you is insanely beautiful. The whole room is!) Honestly, I quit returning to comments I made on other people's channels because there were never any replies. Sure felt one directional. I was VERY pleasantly surprise recently when you DID reply to my comment. So good. See you soon.
Thank you! (and yes, it is a lovely plant... I think the name of it was found by some other viewers, if you feel like digging around in the comments section). I *do* try to respond to as many comments as my free time allows! It's not always 100% (and let's be honest, some comments are just not worth responding to), but I do put in a significant effort and investment of time. I think a lot of creators use the comments section to farm engagement rather than actually build and connect with a community
I saw on Charlie's channel (the stitchery!) that one commenter posted "What are you gonna do with ALL THAT FABRIC!?" and they came back and EDITED IT and said OMG now I see what you're doing!" and they were on board lol. @@shannonmakessomethingelse It's called a prayer plant (Maranta leuconeura.) We are an outlier family with a passion for for crafting, plants, photography, birdwatching, aerialist circus arts, vintage sewing projects, environmentally based recycling, home renovation, and love all the things that you do! Wherever you post them.
I stick with you because you remind me about lessons from my Mom and grandparents, I've forgotten: making, hand-me-downs, re-purposing, neighbourliness (I'm kind of an introvert), and lots more. Variety is the spice of life and you deliver lots of spice, and now I have 2X as much Shannon and I love to be considered an outlier.
I will probably watch both channels every week just because you are "like a box of chocolates". You never know what your going to get. I like it. Learn a lot and you guys are great problem solvers. Getting my big sewing table this Sunday. Your video influenced me to finally make that happen. Thanks 😊
Thank you!! Although fair warning (and it's my bad for forgetting to make it clear in this video) but it almost definitely won't be an EVERY week thing - just some weeks, when I feel like I have something to share!
Just a note on brand deals--I often skip that material on other channels because it just doesn't apply/appeal to me. You've done a good job integrating brands that are actually of interest/value to me. That said, I'm happy to have long meandering videos to keep me company while I work, so I'm happy to be an outlier.
Thank you! And of course inevitably there will be ones that are less interesting to you specifically... just means they're probably more interesting to someone else in my audience's demographic. But I love hearing that feedback, thank you!
Actually I do too, @@daedubois9428. My understanding is creators do get a cut of that subscription fee. In this case, Shannon is talking about in-program promotions, which we do see. So hopefully she is gaining more than one income stream from our views!
@@daedubois9428 I got premium as well. I live where our internet goes out randomly because of fallen trees (we love out trees!) so like right now as its thundering and windy I already have The Stitchery's video downloaded for later JUST IN CASE... but also i can download a playlist for driving through national forests or the sticks or when Im tired of commercials on the radio. But also you can turn your screen off and listen to music on the porch at night in the daaarrrkkk
@@daedubois9428I pay for premium as well, it just means we don’t get the ads that YT wants to force upon us during videos. She still gets the money from the sponsors by us watching the ad that she does about a product.
Completely understand the reason for the second channel. Thanks for the honesty. Personally, I like variety. I'm one of those people who may skip watching a particular video for weeks or months because my brain is not interested in that TODAY. Chances are a week, month or year from now that video will be exactly what I want. and I am that person who puts on a play list to craft, clean, &/or nap to.
variety is fun! variety is interesting! also, chances are that video will still be there days, weeks and months later when your brain wants that flavour of tickle!
Thanks for the lesson on 2nd channels. Unless the 2nd channel was on a totally different craft/subject I have wondered & now I know. Keep up your great work & I look forward to your "roasts"!
I guess my loyalty makes me an outlier. I started watching your channel when it was primarily sewing and, confession, I haven't sewn more than a pillowcase. I don't choose my favorite channels based on content, but on the creator. I will watch every video you put out because I want to support you. Glad you're able to ignore all the people who don't understand we're here for a sense of community/connection and not a succinct how to video.
Some people have no taste. I'm a manic cat person and I still love seeing Quenelle get so excited and wiggly waiting for the next stick!@@shannonmakessomethingelse
So, I only discovered the original channel shortly after the first home renovation vids started going up. It reminded me of a smash up of Ariel Bisset (who similarly added renovating a very old fixer-upper to her primarily book/reading-themed channel) and DYI Danie, with her various creative diy projects of all sizes. I’m not even a big reader (Ariel) or a capable artist (Danie) or crafter/circus performer (you). I AM a lover of old houses, diy, tools, gardening, thrifting, etc. But it’s not even all about content. I just appreciate like-minded, smart, resourceful, confident, *good-humored* women tackle projects that require some elbow grease! Just because I don’t craft as much as (probably) most of your audience, doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate that YOU do! I will happily watch you make “Something Else”! I LOVE your forthrightness and honesty, Shannon! Also, you and Phil can be spectacularly hilarious. Dry sense of humor. Grade A wit, you two. Oo! Also a shout out to the editing time totals. I LOVE seeing them. Reminder that every vid is it’s own diy project!
I love your conversations and ideas on other ways to get things done. I don't know why people feel obligated to complain when they can just stop watching. I started watching because of one of the sewing videos and stayed for the personality and breadth of videos. I'll be watching both channels. Keep it up.
20:51 nooo don't trash them! I am not the comment type person, but this one got me. Got here first because of upcycling, stayed because of you. The last Q&A hit me so hard that I admire your personality since than. I would watch every content you put out because of your honest, remarkable and the same time enthusiastic and passionate character. It is very refreshing these days and I am very thankful for that, you are very rare.
That is the cutest pilot I've ever seen. I wonder if you've noticed an increase in nasty comments on the home reno videos. In my experience, the home reno comment section can be brutal...even between commentors.
Oh yea, definitely. Did I cut that part out of my "Assumptions" video? I don't think I did, I think I left it in... it's tangentially related, I guess: I spoke about how there are far more people interested in house renovation in general, so just more eyes on those videos to leave comments, but also because basically *everybody* has lived in a house, rented a house, owned a house, had SOME SORT of experience with houses, so everyone's got opinions. Basically none of them are asked for or wanted by me, but a lot of people want to give them regardless. But I do find that those are mostly just annoying, not flat out mean (although clearly some of them are, like our Marigold, who seems to live for trying to rip me apart, although I couldn't care less, I just troll them right back!!)
Yay! I'm so glad you're doing this! One thing I love is how honest and insightful you are, which is why I joined your Patreon. I'm looking forward to seeing what you put on this channel - and you're right, sometimes it's soothing to have the videos playing while doing other things. :) Congratulations!
Good luck with your second channel! You have inspired me to start my own paper piecing quilt, which in turn has inspired my daughter, so thanks on behalf of us both! Laura ❤❤❤
Uh, yes! That's a lovely idea! I like your main channel and all the different stuff you're doing. So here I am curious about everything you will come up with. 😊 Love that. Sometimes I really enjoy looooooooong videos and sometimes I prefer the shorter ones. So both channels will be the perfect mix. ❤ And then even more Corgi-content! Whoohoo! 🎉
I was impressed with the Topdon sponsorship - so ironic that they came to you with a free thing you've already bought. :) I'm now looking at getting one for my old house. Or possibly asking the library to acquire one for the Library of Things...
Actually - Amazon has it flagged as a product that's often returned, so maybe I should rethink this. I've got an iPhone and I guess their app either doesn't exist or doesn't work as expected? Weird.
I didn't notice having any trouble on my iPhone, but I will admit that because we bought the Android version first, for Phil's phone, I haven't used the iPhone version as much
I also would be curious to know how many of the returns are people who bought it planning to return it all along after they had used it once for whatever their intended purpose was
I figured second channels had something to do with the financial/business part. Thanks for the information. I am looking forward to seeing what you put on here. Big fan of both eclectic and long form content so this will be fun.
You're welcome (although of course I have to add the caveat that this is MY personal take on it, and other creators may have other reasons or opinions on the topic, but I feel confident saying that these three reasons probably encompass a large percentage of creators)
So I‘m watching your videos for a while now (subscribed of course ;) ) but I was very naive on the whole business model behind youTube. So that video was very enlightening!
Excellent news, more of a sensible, creative, humourous person that you are...really looking forward to the content of "the little bit more" PS where do you find the time !!!??? 😂🤣🥳🥳
I joined you originally on the main channel for sewing content, but thankfully I love watching renovations too. To a certain degree I feed like by refusing to limit your content type you end up becoming the content focus yourself. People start following you because they want to follow your life and the more parasocial sort of connection. You’re a very personable presence and your partner is adorable, so that’s probably working in your favor. ;)
Love the name of this channel! Like so many others, I like sewing content, but like making of all kinds. I love them all the same. No matter if you're making baby socks or building a barn, I love it!
I am very impressed by all your varied talents. I too am crafty and a DYI person and have renovated an old house. It's hard, dirty but satisfying work. It's great how you and Phil work so well together. I will continue to support you and to hell with the stupid people who criticize and make nasty comments. You have a great attitude Shannon,
I don’t see why you felt the need to go back track about your abilities. You are a confident person. We know that. You are often found to be telling us about a fault that you have or a mistake that you made. You have every right to tell us what you have done well.
Because I'm not just born with a crazy good business sense... it was acquired over many years and with many mistakes and I think that there's a huge disconnect in our society due in large part to the fact that nobody talks about their mistakes or lessons that were learned along the way. Social media promotes only sharing successes, not downfalls or mistakes, but this is not realistic to the way life is, and I think it's important to be very clear about that!
I’m ridiculously excited to have a second Shannon channel! I will happily watch (or at least listen to) anything you take time to film. As a retired artist who recently moved to a new city it has been difficult to “find my tribe”. Not terrible since I’m an introvert but I still prefer more human interaction than I currently have. Shannon makes, Flipping drawers, Stephanie Canada, The Stitchery, Living Big in a tiny house, the minimalists and a few others are often sitting on my sewing desk or following me around my home as I do my own sewing/crafting/up cycling projects or organizing and old home renovations. I actually find myself replying aloud to the commentary! 😁😂 Side note; it makes my heart happy to see the way you and Phil work together. My husband and I met while working together, we still love any opportunity to collaborate. And Cannelle is always delightful. Sincere appreciation for the work you do.
I did the same as you 2 years ago. Moved across the province for a new job (that I love) but knew no one. It’s been lonely. TH-cam has been a big part of getting through. And I’ve decided I don’t care for this ski town I’m in, so off I go on a new adventure!

I love your channel! I'm so glad you sent out a post, too. I forget to tune into Patreon, so at least I feel as though I'm catching up. You're doing all the things I would love to tackle (minus the circus part ) if age and MS hadn't caught me. I LOVE Cannell's Snoopy impersonation11
I have GOT to set up my tv in my sewing room so I can watch/listen while I sew (already have the tv for craft watching purpose, just haven't done it yet 😋!) I have 3 quilts going at once right now, so yeah, I need some company. Every once in a while in your videos could you say, HEY LADY take a break, get some water, and stretch your legs? 🤣🤣 I'm here for both channels, no matter what you do. 🙂
Is it weird that I think the commenter roasts are going to be the most fun? I feel like second channels are odd. I have all the eclectic content on one channel, but I'm not monetized and probably never will be (that's not why I create) but I understand that sponsors want their plug to be worth it, so putting the less lucrative stuff on a second channel makes sense. I do tend to follow multiple channels from the people that I like, so something about the odd second channel is working!
Never understood why someone watches a video then complains about the presenters/content. Really? If it's that awful why do you watch? Grab a pair & click away! Gesh!!🙄 Keep it up Shannon!!!
It's refreshing to see someone being direct and honest on this topic, so thank you for that! One of the reasons I subcribed to your channel (the other one) in the first place - the absence of bull, er, insincere talk :)
I'm a troll poker on another social media site. I know i do it and my username reflects that. Piss me off and i will snark with glee! Single topic channels do have their place but for us scatterbrained types it's more fun going all over the place. I gained info on how TH-cam works. Most of my viewing is for accurate information (no gossip sh*t or emotional manipulation nonsense. So, fire away. Btw I refuse to get nasty, it's pixel pointless. Onward outliers and other oddball people! 😃
THANK YOU‼️ I found you "out in the wild" 😂 not to long ago, and boy am I so happy. I love your varied interests. THANK YOU AGAIN‼️ for starting your second channel for, what I'm sure is going to be hours of interesting videos. As someone who is a full time care giver to my mother, i am looking forward to your intelligent, excellent conversations. My mother was an avid sewer and together we always did crafts together. Add on the fact that we each have our own tool boxes and did house repairs ourselves... lol... WIN, WIN, WIN BY ALL❤ see you on the flip side😊
On the subject of comp videos: a Cannelle (what am I saying, MORE than one Cannelle video) might do very well. But start with one. :) Also, may I request some updates on progress with the English Paper Piecing/hexagon work, esp since that's something you got me sucked into? (thanks!). And thank you, looking forward to this :)
That's so funny because all my dog-centric videos are my absolute worst performing videos over on the main channel! And there's an EPP video coming out in... hmm, I forget when it's scheduled, but sometime in the fall!!

All house stuff is definitely my jam right now ...just bought my first house which is also 100 years old...I may not need the info now but who knows what I will need in the future. And crafting is always of interest...even if I do not do it now I have probably done it or want to live vicariously so I do not have to invest in another one!!
I'm very excited for your second channel. I'll watch most if not all your videos on this channel too. I really like all the content you've created so far as well as enjoy your personality. Bring on the niche and lengthy videos!!
I am really liking the second channels of the ones I follow. TH-cam is my TV (premium member) as I do not watch broadcast/cable programs. I am a patreon member and still miss the extra stuff you put there
Yea, I will say that Patreon is really bad about having a way to organize all the content that's on there. I've been thinking about that lately, if there's a way to make a list of all the bonus content that's on there, because I think you're not alone in sometimes missing a post or a video from me over there 🤔
I enjoy listening to your videos. I especially enjoy when you and Phil are doing projects together. Your expressions are so expressive like mimes. I also love the Corgi bits.
Happy to be here! Also on your main channel video today I did just see a mean comment. It surprised me as I hadn’t seen any before. I think you are doing a lovely job and I commend you. I know I don’t have the patience and pretty sure strength to carry out my own renovations. I’ve enjoyed seeing your creativity and look forward to more of your videos!
LOL I think I know which one it was too. I told them to hang on, I'll gladly tear the whole house down, but they gotta give me a sec to go buy a bigger sledgehammer 🤣🤣
I’m already planning on getting my mending done while watch/listening to the 2 hr video. I started with the crafting videos and stayed for the renovation videos because of your blend of education and entertaining charm. I’ve shocked the socks off people when I’ve been able to contribute to renovating conversations nobody expects me to know anything about. And the bewildered looks I get when I tell them I learned it from a Shannon Makes video. Usually I get “isn’t she the circus acrobatic whose video you use to debunk the corset myths? She does renovations?” Pretty sure you’ve had a few views from people trying to prove my memory of my source wrong. I’ve already subscribed and I look forward to all the new videos! Huzzah for the outliers club! Thank you!
Oh gosh, I had no idea off all that back story about the sponsor pay. Makes sense. Well you're getting there, 752 subscribers so far.. Thank you for all the explanations.
@@shannonmakessomethingelse I think a lot of us will watch them through. Even if it's a topic that doesn't appeal, I'll let it play while I got make coffee or something. Unless I hate it or don't like the creator - so you're safe.
I really appreciate when content creators do “behind the scenes” or “outlier” channels like this. Most of the channels I watch that do this have been really clear that it’s a place for things that don’t fit their main channel and the 2nd channel has often turned into something I enjoy more than the main channel. Do I still watch the main? Yes. But I love the relaxed style and personality that often comes with their “outlier” channel. Thank you for the opportunity to share in things like the fabric unboxing and other interests you have. Looking forward to these videos showing up in my subscription feed. 🥰😊
Huzzah! I'm here for all of it, and especially the compilations to play as I craft. 🎉 I found you first through that sewing table video, subbed when you started renovating, and now you are part of what makes Fridays/weekends relaxing and entertaining. ❤
Looking forward to being part of the "Third Street Gang" 🕵 On a totally other note, I commented a 3 yo video on Gaiter and Spats etc and you responded!! I was so impressed that you still notice and actually replied to a comment on something older than 12 hours old, so few folks on YT take that kind of time. TY!
Yeah, so excited for the second channel and having you keep me company while I sew! It totally baffles me that people think it’s ok to criticise TH-camrs. I don’t sit through a TV show I don’t like (most of what's broadcast these days) and then email them to tell them what I hated about it. Move on people, who cares about your opinions. If you don’t like it, move along. Your present is not required! Totally here for the chats, EPP in beautiful scenery and generally keeping me company while I craft and go about my day. Can’t wait for the roasts too!

I tend to be pretty involved in certain channels when the creator is not all about money. I’m a political junkie because our democracy is on the line. But I need channels to refresh my soul. I dedicate my Saturday coffee time to you (that said during the week I’ve been catching up on your past videos). I enjoy having a conversation with you and the community. Sadly I’m retired living in a very $$$$ city so I can’t do patreon but as a viewer to all the channels that make my life better I know my job: like, subscribe, comment! Some channels are easier to get more fully involved with. While I adore your editing skills and how great they are, I also love when it’s just you talking. Not every episode has to be an Oscar winning short documentary. I find you easy to engage with. (One of my political channels started a second channel for longer episodes. The main founder burned out after 4 years even though he had a whole team. His wife is now on camera and the comments are intense. I try not to read them). I can’t wait for your longer videos!

We are an outlier family with a passion for for crafting, plants, photography, birdwatching, aerialist circus arts, vintage sewing projects, environmentally based recycling, home renovation, and love all the things that you do! Wherever you post them.
My crafting is ready for the 2.5 hours of fabrics unboxing :p
omg, love it!!!
Same! Shannon unboxing fabric while I finally get around to cutting the pieces for that quilt top from February? Perfect!
Yes please! I definitely need to watch something like this while organizing my craft room!
Very happy to watch fabric unboxing while working on a new sashiko piece.
Especially since it's Shannon's fault I'm doing patchwork!
I stick with you because you remind me about lessons from my Mom and grandparents, I've forgotten:
making, hand-me-downs, re-purposing, neighbourliness (I'm kind of an introvert), and lots more.
Variety is the spice of life and you deliver lots of spice, and now I have 2X as much Shannon and I love to be considered an outlier.
awww, thank you. I love the way you phrased that!!
😂So true!!! Love the "Box of Chocolate."
Same here, I’m subscribing😍.
I love watching your renovation videos plus your sewing videos. Mostly all of your videos.
Thank you 🥰🥰
Just a note on brand deals--I often skip that material on other channels because it just doesn't apply/appeal to me.
I actually pay the $$ for the You Tube Premium, so no adds for me. I apologize (?) you probably don't get any $$ from me viewing. But I do view.

Not me procrastinating at work….one more hour! Your channel is already serving its purpose! 😂
HAHHAHA mission: accomplished ✅
Thanks for the lesson on 2nd channels. Unless the 2nd channel was on a totally different craft/subject I have wondered & now I know. Keep up your great work & I look forward to your "roasts"!
You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it!! ♥️
Aww, thank you!!!
Love hearing all your plans for this new channel. Maybe we can get more Corgi chasing sticks content as well.
LOL well my corgi videos ARE the worst performing videos on the other channel, so it's true that this would be a good place to put them!
Sounds like me. I like eclectic. And, just as I typed that, Shannon said the word! 😂 I watch those channels too, and I like the variety they offer. 😊
Aww, thank you!! Very glad to have you along for the adventure here on channel #2 as well!!
I love your conversations and ideas on other ways to get things done. I don't know why people feel obligated to complain when they can just stop watching. I started watching because of one of the sewing videos and stayed for the personality and breadth of videos. I'll be watching both channels. Keep it up.
Thank you very much 🫶🫶
I'll second that !! Go girl go...all 3 of you 🥰
20:51 nooo don't trash them!
Thank you 🥹🥹 Glad you vibe with the videos!
Thank you so much! 🫶🫶
Love hearing about the generosity and kindness of the viewers.
It's been honestly mind blowing, and a huge part of the reason I decided to start channel #2!!
I can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

Good luck with your second channel!
You have inspired me to start my own paper piecing quilt, which in turn has inspired my daughter, so thanks on behalf of us both! Laura ❤❤❤

Coming soon!
Whoohoo! 🎉
And don't forget about the name of the channel. So simpel and yet great! 😊
FULL credit for the name goes to Charlie from the Stitchery, she came up with that!
As a person starting up a channel, this kind of video is great. Thank you!
Weird.
I didn't notice having any trouble on my iPhone, but I will admit that because we bought the Android version first, for Phil's phone, I haven't used the iPhone version as much
@@shannonmakessomethingelse good to know that it exists and does work for some.
I also would be curious to know how many of the returns are people who bought it planning to return it all along after they had used it once for whatever their intended purpose was
Compilations AND comment roasts?! Amazing 🎉🎉🎉
I love watching you both renovating and your crafting. Second channel woohoo. Love from the UK xx
Thank you and welcome aboard!! 🇬🇧
It's always nice to see you! Second channel 👍 Thanks and Greetings 👋
Can't wait for the fabric unboxing 😊

So I‘m watching your videos for a while now (subscribed of course ;) ) but I was very naive on the whole business model behind youTube. So that video was very enlightening!
Glad you enjoyed it so much!
I ❤ long form content/compilation videos when I’m sewing!
It's the best!!!
Excellent news, more of a sensible, creative, humourous person that you are...really looking forward to the content of "the little bit more" PS where do you find the time !!!??? 😂🤣🥳🥳
Thank you kindly! And to be fair (because I didn't clarify in the video), I won't be uploading every week! Just when I have something I want to post!
No matter if you're making baby socks or building a barn, I love it!
thank you!
I am very impressed by all your varied talents. I too am crafty and a DYI person and have renovated an old house.
It's hard, dirty but satisfying work. It's great how you and Phil work so well together. I will continue to support you and to hell with the stupid people who criticize and make nasty comments. You have a great attitude Shannon,
Thank you so much! ♥️💙
I'm so excited for more eclectic content!
VARIETYYYY!!
I have an older house and I filled it with crafting supplies so I guess I am here for whatever you post.
LOL perfect!!!
Side note; it makes my heart happy to see the way you and Phil work together. My husband and I met while working together, we still love any opportunity to collaborate. And Cannelle is always delightful. Sincere appreciation for the work you do.
That's so fun... I'm happy to keep you company, even if it's just in the background

Oh wow, that's a crazy number of quilts!! You go!! 🧵🪡
I’m hereby signing up for the 2 hour fabric unboxing😊

I really appreciate when content creators do “behind the scenes” or “outlier” channels like this. Most of the channels I watch that do this have been really clear that it’s a place for things that don’t fit their main channel and the 2nd channel has often turned into something I enjoy more than the main channel. Do I still watch the main? Yes. But I love the relaxed style and personality that often comes with their “outlier” channel.

I love your content and am happy to follow you to this new channel. Good luck!
