Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson stated that in the aftermath of the 2020 election, former President Trump said that she should be tried for treason and potentially executed (for not overthrowing the will of the people). Perhaps this same standard should be applied to Trump himself for inspiring, fomenting and encouraging an insurrection which resulted in severe injury and death.

If Cannon had a shred of integrity, she'd recuse herself on the grounds of A) the appearance of serious conflict of interest B) her impartiality is reasonably questioned and C) her shocking lack of experience totally precludes her from being up to the task of presiding over possibly the most important legal case in American history. You don't hire someone then make them CEO without them demonstrating experience and expertise. Cannon has displayed neither.

Why was this judge, with her almost complete lack of experience & demonstrated prejudice about this very case, chosen for this trial?
It's a random draw.
Another podcast went over the odds of drawing her name, given the number of choices in the venue they placed the indictment. The odds were pretty high. I'm reasonably sure the the DOJ is either going to immediately put in a demand for recusal, or, at a minimum, the moment she makes a real bad call. No telling how this will play out, but they rolled the dice and lost one round. But the rules for recusal are real clear, and the words "must recuse" apply when there's even just the APPEARANCE of bias.
Anyone else remember how Trump reacted when Jeff Sessions recused himself? Cannon may simply be afraid of becoming his next target for mean words.

11th Circuit should without anyone asking for it, remove her from the case. The fact that her being the judge is a thing right now means there is reasonable concern about her ability to be unbiased.
Even if she had been supported by the demcratic party her lack of experience would be enough to remove her from this case.

That's why it was a shock when she evoked her own theory the last time, you are suppose to go uniquely with what the defense or the prosecution is saying or asking, and not interject your own into it. You judge what is presented, you don't start creating defenses for the defense for example.

If a junior military person can serve 5 years for the retention and distribution of one classified document and was arrested, held in prison awaiting trial then why isn't Trump in jail.

Because in America our entire legal system is based on "innocent until proved guilty." Because of this, people are allowed to make bail and get out of jail until their trial date. If you don't have the money to pay your entire bail-no problem-you use a bail bondsman and pay them a percentage (12-15% usually) and you get out of jail until your court date. Trump is not in the military, he's a civilian. Military law may have stricter procedures or maybe he couldn't afford bail.
@LaLadybug2011 "Bail" is punishment for the poor. What that says is if you're wealthy, it's more okay for you to commit the same crimes. Also, any crime for which the punishment is a fine is a crime that only exists for the poor.

I have always maintained that anyone committing treason should face capital punishment under Title 18 US Code 2318, as specified in Article III, Section 3 of the US Constitution. Did you not listen to what he said. " If you got a call, a former government employee had a secret stash of documents in his bathroom. What would you do?" What about the 49 MISSING classified documents. The DOJ has STILL not searched other Trump properties. Did Trump sell them? Did Trump turn them over to his Russian handler? The facts are that there are 48 classified document folders that are empty. We no not know where the document in the phone call is.

That's the exact issue. Who has them or who took information. Not knowing the document to the do damage control.
It's possible he just took empty folder.
The lack of search tells me whichever office checked it, at least knows where the docs are or should be al.
Or is so sensitive, they don't want to give credence to their existence at all.
Interestingly, Trump's team hired investigators to search four (!) of Trump's properties in October of 2022 Bedminster, Trump Tower, and two locations in Florida. They found two classified docs in the storage unit. Given the shell game Nauta was instructed to play with the boxes, I suspect (without evidence - only suspicion) those documents were an accident.
Edited to add: These were NOT federal investigators, just a couple of guys hired as a response to a court order. They were questioned by the federal grand jury and didn't decline to answer anything they were asked. What they said hasn't been published.

It is absolutely unethical for Aileen Cannon to be sitting on this case. She clearly needs to look herself in the mirror given the paucity of her experience in criminal cases as a lawyer and as a judge. Simply astonishing that the American judicial system continues to bring itself into disrepute.

The suspense pertaining to whether Cannon will preside over this trial is crazy. What other country in the world shares America's worship of "celebrity" criminal behaviors?

I cannot help but think that the fiasco of allowing this case to fall to Aileen Cannon was deliberate. There was reporting that the local court rule, according to the clerk who assigned the case and was questioned about it by a reporter, was to reassign a case to the same judge that began adjudicating it. This documents case was originally adjudicated by Aileen Cannon! The clerk said it was automatically assigned to Cannon and not done by chance in any way. Is this the DOJ's way of putting on a good show, jumping through the justice hoops, then letting Trump off on a technicality and saying to the American people, "Oh, well, we tried." I am so sick of the government and mainstream media lying to and manipulating us. Trump's a$$ belongs in a supermax prison!!!! We want justice!!!!
As to this judge being assigned this case, it REALLY looks like the fix is in.⚖️
