You will know true fear if you play this game using the "survival mod" on shell shocked or higher. The monster is a lot more unpredictable and sometimes even stands still pretends you "lost it" and he also randomly sprints throughout a zone and can catch you off guard with no warning. On top of that he no longer "roars" before starting to chase you. Highly recommend.

That howling sound is just perfect for this monster. It sounds like a beast that has opened a hunt for you. Once again I'm convinced that Mikko Tarmia is a damn genius at writing atmospheric ambient
I'm so glad Frictional went back to actual monsters. The Ghouls were so not-scary in Rebirth. Once I saw they weren't actually anything but naked people I lost all fear factor. And the other monsters being Aliens was so freaking goofy and ridiculous. But THIS? Dude The Bunker's monster TERRIFIED me to my core. A perfectly crafted monster.
there is a little more to them than naked humans but well, I suppose the intimidation factor of the Bunker Beast with it´s bulky frame and resounding roars probably speaks for it´self
While i do agree, the Stalker is a Ghoul too, by lore. He's just way more bulkier and bigger than the ones in Rebirth because in the bunker he had A LOT of people to kill and vitae to consume. While in Rebirth, they're lost in forgotten desert without any prey for God knows how long
guess its also because rebirth has alot of scripted chases and events. Bunker is kinda like alien isolation, or at least feels like that for me, theres always a constant threat. its why i found rebirth and dark descent scary at first and then just cool afterwards. but this game.. its too opressive for me.. alien isolation took me like 4 months to beat and yea im not doing this
What I like the most is that it heavily contrasts the names of the other monsters in the franchise. Usually the name sounds either pitiable or simply descriptive of its nature. The Beast is so horrible that it is only referred to with something almost biblical in tone
This game brings me amnesia and outlast vibes at the same time. The claustrophobic ambience. The tension. The difficulty. The necessity of staying low and quiet. The history told by short and objective notes. The ocasional bombardment to break silence and create tension. I LOVE IT. Best horror game I played since Outlast 1.
You sure as hell got difficulty right. I've died four times in the first hour of gameplay, and I'm only playing on normal difficulty (three deaths to the beast, one to a grenade that somehow activated from a flare tripwire?)
Entering maintenance and after taking that left corner, seeing the beast walking around in the distance in the chapel area......it's TERRIFYING! I love this game so much!
I'm not there yet, but I just had a similar experience in the soldier's quarters. I didn't have the generator on as I entered it and the moment I came into that long hallway with the communications room at the other end, I saw the beast walking in front of it from left to right in the distance. That was also the first time I actually saw him on screen. Very disturbing moment.

Whoa, I remember the music when the beast was patrolling but I never listened to it straight up, the droning noise is haunting… perfect for the beast. Can’t wait to see what frictional makes next :)
Noticed this a few days ago, but the beast appears to have bayonets stabbed into its chest. Did some poor souls run dry and resorted to charging the damn thing? If so, that's badass as hell.
Henri quietly makes his way through the bunker. Still confused as to what happened, he had no memory of where he even was. All he knew, was that he needed to get out of here. He knew he wasn’t alone, and he certainly wasn’t with a human. He continued to walk, into the barracks. He confidently strides until the power goes out. Seemingly, everything is quiet. He starts to use his flashlight, the noise was loud. Too loud. Enough for it to hear. As suddenly, the beast comes out of a hole. He sees it. He rushes to turn off his sad excuse for a flashlight. He quietly crouches under a bed, slowly, yet quickly. The monster Begins to search for Henri, seemingly to no avail. Henri is terrified. He sees a quick and available exit. He slowly yet quietly leaves from under the bed, and begins walking backward. The monster groans in frustration, he KNOWS something is there, he heard them. But he can’t find his prey. Henri continues to slowly back up, his paranoid eyes glued to the creature. Until…Henri stepped on broken glass. The beast looked in his direction, and saw him. 2:15 now Henri runs for his life, as the monster chases him. He just needs to get to the administration room…there’s no way he can break a metal door, he thought. He ran, cutting as many corners, throwing boxes and barrels behind him, so the monster couldn’t catch up. The monster easily broke through these boxes, effortlessly. He crawled on all fours, slowly catching him. Henri was within reach. Henri was grabbed, as he screamed and pleaded. He rapidly flailed around, and in a panic, pulled his gun out and shot the beast with the only bullet he had. The beast roared in pain, backing up. Henri got up and dashed, making it to the administration room, closing the door and locking it. He hid immediately, under a table. The monster fled, crawling into a hole. Henri could hear the shuffling of the creature. His hand closed his mouth, to prevent any noise from coming out. The monster was frustrated, angry that it couldn’t fulfill its purpose.. 3:15 Henri sat in silence, unable to understand what Hell just nearly killed him.

Marko nails it, as usual. But this one is particularly masterful. Why? It's howling, but ambient somehow. There's something truly terrifying and menacing, and the song just adds such suspense to the darkness. Something about it just suits the long hallways and dreading what you'll see there, or what'll see you.
This is by far my favorite horror game ever, I love how scary it is, I love the protagonist, and I am interested in French history, especially Napoleonic and WW1, so this is amazing
Yeah, those skinny, malnourished little tweaker crackheads were not good monsters. And if you got caught, so what? Some wrestling with it, and if you "die" you spawn further ahead in progress. In Bunker, this terrifying sounding and horrific looking, huge creature will brutally grab your face and snap your neck.
