Alyska: "I decided to watch Se7en" Me: "This should be good" Alyska: "I don't really know anything about it" Me: "Oh.." Alyska: "I'm going in blind" Me: "Oh no"
In this context, "Don't jerk me off" means "Don't speak down to me, misrepresent the situation because you're assuming I'm incapable of understanding the true picture". Basically, "treat me as your equal".
The crazy thing about this film, as disturbing as it is, is the only murder shown on screen is Mills shooting the killer. Just brilliant writing and filmmaking.
The thing about Lawyers is, everyone has the right to one.. even the guilty. And a Lawyer could hate the person they're defending and hope that person goes down, but if the Lawyer doesn't do everything they can to get their client off the entire case could be thrown out and absolutely no charges at all.. so they argue and do their job and hope for the best.
Lawyers are legally and contractually bound to defend their client to the best of their ability, and if ifs discovered that they haven't because of personal feelings, they're more likely to be removed from the case and face consequences if not be disbarred. Seriously doubt the case would get thrown out.
In the United States. That's an important distinction. It's certainly not the same everywhere, while most places pretend to hold the law to a high standard, it's really come the closest to actualization in the U.S. (for all it's inherent flaws, as well, admittedly.) No place is perfect, but you wouldn't want to be put on trial anywhere else, at all. Whether you're guilty or not, the standard that needs to be overcome is guilty or not guilty, absent any reasonable doubt. You don't have to prove you're innocent, in America, the burden is always on the Prosecution, to prove your guilt. If they can't, you walk free. (or, at least that's the agreed upon standard, anyway.) Even in the United States, where the letter of the law is most closely followed, plenty of people get railroaded. But it's still better than anywhere else in the World. (Other places come close, of course, but all fall short. I'm just sayin' ✌
There are three types of criminal defense lawyers. The first type are just doing it for the money. Usually, these guys do a lot of DUI or misdemeanor work; at that level, one is dealing with people who have problems rather than people who are problems. Then there are those who think that American criminal justice is terrible, and they feel like by getting defendants acquitted, even the guilty ones, they are striking a blow for justice against the evil, corrupt system. Finally, there are the ones who very much believe in the system; these guys believe that by putting on the strongest possible defense, they are safeguarding the integrity of the system by making the state proves its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
@@twstf8905 You are either extremely ignorant or making an elaborate joke, as there are several countries with better justice systems than the USA, which actually has one of the worst in the western world. Just saying.
@@twstf8905 Actually there are plenty of other countries that have equivalent legal standards. Se7en is such a thriller that it almost veers into horror. I might have been 13 or something when I saw it the first time and I swear, the guy in the bed freakes me out to this day!
The two you mentioned, “Shawshank Redemption” (more Morgan Freeman) and “Forrest Gump” (start a Tom Hanks rabbit hole) would be good… also “Fight Club” (more Brad Pitt) and “The Usual Suspects” (more Kevin Spacey).
Lawyers who defend murderers are a necessary evil. Without competent defense, we can't expose flaws in the prosecution. Both sides are necessary to evolve into a truly fair trial, and we're so far from that even now.
So....this video popped up in my recommendations today and I was VERY surprised. I like Alyska's reaction videos and watch them all, but...years ago I saw Se7en and said "Never again." 32:55 No one is ever mentally prepared for this movie. You actually handled it pretty well. In the interest of recommending something lighter, Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott did a movie called Role Models about 10 years ago. Funniest thing I've ever seen.
At the time this film was released Paltrow wasn't very famous and only had a handful of supporting roles to her name so we didn't question so much why she wasn't in the film as much.
Here's a rarely recommended film to react to if you haven't seen it 'Training Day' which got Denzel Washington an Oscar. I've only recently saw this for myself this year and was very impressed! Who else agrees?
Believe it or not, this movie isn’t gory. You never really see any gore or violence on screen. It’s talked about. You see photographs. You see the aftermath. But you never see the killing or gore. Instead, you are forced to mull it over in your imagination, which is much worse. Your mind and imagination makes things a hundred times more frightening and disturbing.

They needed to shave their chest so they can tape the wire properly (so it won't hurt to take the tape off later haha). Also, they're not really in a hurry because John set a specific time so they got it. Defense lawyers have to sharpen their skills defending guilty people, so that they can effectively save the small percentage of innocent people they need to defend. Sometimes they’re scummy, but I think most are trying their best.
I saw this with my husband during a vacation in the movie theater in my early 20s. I remember when the lights came up I was literally angry about how dark I felt. We walked on the beach afterward. Walking on the beach at night is one of my favorite things and I was paranoid about every person around. Se7en affected me more than any movie had, and I don't think it would have been as intense had I not seen it in a theater. If I were to win a lottery (as if) I'll buy an old theater to show classics just so people could enjoy movies in a theater without spending a small fortune. Some things are better when they aren't just streamed.
The mind blowing part?
