  • Purim in Jewish Brooklyn is quite a sight to behold! I have a lot of family in Boro Park Brooklyn, and this year, I spent a few additional hours in the neighborhood to film some of the going-on. I tried my best to be your tour guide and show you what I see, the messages in the costumes, the small nuanced social expressions, and to spread some of the fun I have when I visit the neighborhood on Purim. On this day a lot of people are more easy-going, more open, and it's contagious.
Last year I visited Hasidic Williamsburg, and you can watch my report here:

Hi! I am from Western Kentucky and love to watch your videos. I am Christian and love to study about both Judaism and the culture of ethnic Jews. I have a son who lives in Manhattan and attends Columbia University. My other son and I visited him last week, and we went to Williamsburg last Friday. It was my favorite part of my NYC trip. We went to two bakeries (Steinberg’s and Korn’s). Both were yummy. Our presence was more welcomed at Korn’s, but I hope to visit again on another trip. We also sat in a park on Bedford Avenue to enjoy our pastries. I have been in education for 28 years. I am now an elementary school counselor, so seeing the schools and children was also interesting to me. The children in the parks were very curious about us. Thanks for all you do to share about this culture and providing me with enough information to take a little tour of Williamsburg with my boys.

Momma Polly… what a nice response… I really enjoy her videos as well. I grew up in Maine with a large family, moved to Dallas when I was 29, where I met and married my Indian husband (he’s a Brahmin Hindu) and I’m Catholic. We moved to Raleigh NC in 2016…
I enjoy watching her videos too.. it’s nice to learn about other cultures in an honest and respectful environment…

I'm a reform Sephardic Jewish woman.
Once, in 2003, while in college I went to the Boston Chabad house. It was Purim. I have not seen, before or since, any group of people as drunk as on that occasion... all Vodka too!

This is not nuetral, this is the reality! Stop pushing a narrative that's isn't true. Because she left doesn't mean she went through something. This is exactly why you have to come down to Brooklyn and find the truth! Whatever you watched or saw in the secular world is not the reality. Gullible people are not smart people! Don't take everything at face value!

I used to live the neighborhood over in Kensington, so the views were familiar to me. Seeing this video brought back some memories, thank you for sharing this one. Loved this video! Happy Purim. Very interesting. Almost like the the day of Halloween. Kids dress up and go around to houses and ask for candy by saying trick or treat. But I like the idea of giving gifts and collecting money for charities or what not. So good to see people sharing their costumes with you. Thank you for taking the time to make the video and share with your you tube fans. 😊 did you participate in Purim as you were growing up? Have a wonderful rest of your week.

The Purim gelt reminds me of what they do on Chinese New Year, where kids especially get Hongbao (lit. "red envelopes") with money in them from their parents and other relatives.
They actually sell hamantaschen in Germany (I think year round?), but they call them "bishop's hats," I guess because of the triangular shape. It was the weirdest moment when I wandered into a German grocery store and saw them selling hamantaschen in, like, November or something.

Your videos are most exciting when you do street scenes such as this. You can almost smell the sweetness of the bakery ! My friends family made Simsemiyeh in which the poppy seeds represent “Haman’s fleas”. Also Fazuelos which are fried dough!

Never ever heard this! If I got a pastry that I'm told represents a villain's flees, I'd definitely still eat it!

Please invite Frieda! She is teaching us to appreciate the Jewish community and is making many new friends for the Jews. When the haters hate, we can be glad the friends the Lord has sent us. Frieda is introducing many new friends to the Hasidic community! Long live the Jews!!! 👍 ✌️ 🇮🇱 ✡️ let's be friends even in Heaven

I'm so glad! It's a very interesting world and most of the time only the ugly side is seen.

@@FriedaVizelBrooklyn Hello Frieda i really hope u don't feel offended or upset with my comment ok?. To be super honest with u if there are some people does not matter what race or religion they are if they don't understand the Jews cultures and religion then that is their problem not yours! U already make an effort by creating this channel so that people who watch your videos can understand what the Jew cultures and religion is all about. But however if there are still some people don't understand the Jews despite of your comprehensive explanation then they are really very STUPID! They don't understand and yet they got the bloody cheek to CRITICIZE the Jew cultures and religion! Frieda if there some idiots who only see the ugly side of the Jews then just ignore them! Please don't waste your precious times arguing with IDIOTS! We should keep ourselves busy doing better stuffs than arguing with a bunch of idiots!
