- Another Tribute to the man who inspired me to play the bass. The Amazing Chris Squire Beethoven of Bass. (thanks kate) I learned Yours Is No Disgrace many days ago, did a brush up and did a live take with all of my glorious imperfections. On the original recordings the breakdowns (Walking bass lines) chris changes basses to a more typical fender bass sound with flats but still retains that attack he is famous for. It clearly comes through. Thanks for watching. Chris Tristram
How can anyone thumbs down this?
The playing and sound is 1000% awesome!
Thanks Peter!!!!
Chris Squire is probably the greatest bass player I've ever heard, besides Victor Wooten, but if I were to choose one of them, I'd say I model my style off of Chris. He's just an absolutely fantastic playing bassist, and eerything he does is nothing short of perfect.
With that being said, this cover is very impressive and I enjoyed it very much! Once I finally have this song down, I'm thinking of putting a cover on here,Id enjoy what you think of it!
beautiful. you have the right bass and you played it with a pick just like our boy CHRIS. and the bass tone is perfect. great job!
I have seen YES many times, and as a bass player, this guy is Awesome! Not only is he note for note, he has the sound and the feel down to a 'T'
thanks brother!!
MAN!...that was clean, accurate, precise. You've got a tremendous ear my friend... Thank u for posting,
Awesome playing. Squire is smiling somewhere
Your CS videos are so good for me because CS's parts are my favorite parts on the yes catalog and when you play them I get to hear them MORE. I bow to thee. Thanks for being human.
AMAZING!!!! GREAT BASS LINE!!!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Once again, beautiful! Thank you for your devotion to music! And thank you for your devotion to Yes.
Most excellent indeed!
You got the playing perfect but I like the sound even better!! Nice settings man!
Yep...the tone is great. But, I hear a hum/buzz from those single coil pick ups, I presume. I installed some hum buckers on my rick. They have pretty good tone too, but maybe not as nice as this one. I saw one video where a guy had a completely hum-less set of single coil pickups; the bass had been modified to introduce some shielding. Not sure what they did exactly, but I'd like to know how to eliminate the hum and still get the great tone.
Nice! 10 years ago! Time flies. Hope you’re still playing! ✌🏽
STILL DOIN IT!!!
Great cover for a great bass part by a giant bass player. Congrats from a Yes fan.
This was SO helpful for me to learn the song, as there are a few little strange changes that threw me off. Thanks Chris!!!
I Like playing with a Pick, or Without, it's Contextual to the Song, and the Attack. A Pick Fits very Well, with the Attack Tonality that Chris Squire 'wanted' within the Yes Mix, and it 'works', incredibly, Well. And I've seen Squire, use his fingers, for certain 'parts', where it warranted it. And this Chris, is Great for sharing his Talent. :)
cant play with a pick for more than 20 mins ... wet fingers ...pick launch .
grew my nails ... woo hoo ... started gigging ... broke a nail ... oh noes
adaapted playing ... flat finger mostly ... when i need tone definition dig in with the nail but not enough to break it
i found a wealth of techniques that offered tonal and timbral variation
left to my own devices i play a mixture of styles ... with one constant ... no pick !!!
A wonderful player you are. LOVE your Ric sound!!! So authentic. Great groove and your timing.!!!Woo! Im a BIG fan! I saw you in Tiffin, Ohio. Two different bands over the past couple years. You are a fine Rock Bassist!
Tiffin was a great show!! Thanks !!! Huge yes fan and if course Mr. SQUIRE. R.I.P. sounds like I was on coffee when I played this one!!
Perfectly captured the wild, gutsy sense of the song. Brilliant!
Thank you!! Love playing yes music...!!!!
Fabulous!!
Impressive
That’s a great looking bass!
Nice cover. You got talent.
again ... awesome ... thanks dude you are a continuing inspiration
Yes, dude.
Nice rendition! Love how you add your own flavor to the chops! I just bought a Rickenbacker 4003 and currently practicing this song.
Thx!! I love playing that yes music!!
- before the you tube & these great covers, I used to listen to Jon, Chris, Alan, Steve & Rick, tying to imagine how the &*$% they did this and other masterpieces
these songs are masterpieces!!
@@monoforone CONCUR ! - YOUR OUTSTANDING COVERS ARE PROOF OF !
Even if you do your own arrangements it sounds killer, keep up the good work Chris!
i'm fifty five and bin listenin' to this tune forever and as a bass player myself that was absolutely dead nuts. you did not miss a single note or nuance and if you did that would just make it sound more like the original recording.
Hey Pal, nice sound and excellent playing!
Awesome playing and that Ric sound man! yeah
Everyone is right. Excellent playing and sound.
Fantastic!
Killer !!!
thank you!!!!
Epic cover
That was perfect! Especially the end.
Wondrously good job monoforone! Return to hear your wonderous bass playing! It's no disgrace!
I am endlessly amazed by the bevy of musicians who are able to cover our heroes of old. But to add - can you sing the tenor harmonies of Sir Squire while still plunking out these amazing Rickenbacker riffs?
So now you want me to sing.... lol
I've never gave it the opportunity. Thanks!
Guess I'd have to it a go!!
@@monoforone I am always amazed to watch players like Squire, Lee, etc. be able to play these complicated bass lines while singing entirely separate lines. Great playing, keep going!
Really nice work. What a joy to play like that.
Excent playing, beautiful tone! A true joy to watch!
Good Job --nice bass
Dude...so awesome
Muito boa escolha da música, e achei que voce tocou muito bem....foi legal!
Hey ya know that one note you sort a goofed on? It wrecked the whole song. LOL What an amazing, entertaining thing to watch!!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing this with us! I was just thinking. It probably sucks being you cause who's gonna play with ya? ha ha . I got to thinking, man look what this guy is doing and then it hit me. Chris WROTE ALL THIS!!!! UFO's DO EXIST! YES is some of em and your probably one of em too! WONDERFUL to watch you!
fab bass, all pretty cool
YES!
That was DAMN GOOD! Great playing!!!
A real treat to hear you play this masterful piece with the tone and gusto it was originally recorded with. How did you capture that tone?Bravo!
This is pretty sweet bro!! keep on keeping on!!
Thank you !!! CT
Great playing, you got it down!
killer job man!
Nice Rick. I have a burgundy 4001S like that too. Mine's a '77, single owner, much modified after many road miles. You got a nice crisp bark out of that, just like Chris. Did you run a stereo feed to two different amps like him? I tried that few times. Hard to get a good sound without a lot of EQ on the bridge p/u.
Get that snarly sound it's not easy (at least if you wanna sound like CS) - could not agree more with tweaking the EQ on the bridge P/U
I have a 2019 matte black 4003, use it with a Russian AMT Bass Crunch preamp which gives me the closest approach to that growl we all know and love but not close enough (need to keep trying different EQ combinations)
I always miss a bunch of notes whatda ya talking about! lol I had a hard time recalling how the arrangement went on this one and the sound got out of hand....Thank you so much for this..
Respect ;)
Awesome shit Chris.
To the “T” thanks
Great job and tone! How did you get the overdrive tone? Pedal or just overdriving the signal?
I used a 1980s vintage reissue fender pro junior tube guitar amp and a condenser mic was in front of that Lilttle fender speaker. It was set to clip a bit when I dig in.. I used an a real 1176 compressor and played it live into a cheap video camera. !! Thx!!
How did you get that tone? Are you using any pedals? I've got a 4003, Rotosound strings, play with a pick, and messed around with the EQ and cannot get that extra grit in the tone.
Nice job Chris. I don't play bass but if I did I would love to play this. Nobody has ever really matched Squires sound or style have they?
lokooo
Curious to know what brand and thickness of picks you use. Great playing by the way. Awesome!
He's secretly Chris squire
Great Job. Where is your Band?
@prohumanbeing Thanks CT!!!
Great sound.. How long did it take to learn? a month of constant repetition? I know the feeling. It took me a month to learn Starship Trooper without many mistakes.
bzzzzzz :)
The ones who disliked this piece of art are Fender groupies xDD
How do you get this bass tone?
So, you're playing Yes on Geddy Lee's bass?
chris squier plays a rickenbacker too. awesome bass guitars.
+Fred Nance chris squire, is the reason geddy ever played a rick dude
True, but Squire's rick is different from Lee's. Rock on!
it don't matter, still a ricky :)
Well, that's what we used to call Rickenbacker Guitars and Basses for short.
One of Squire's hardest parts to play I've always thought. Nice try :)
nice try?
Jesse Russell
Chris' other Squire parts are A1 excellent. Yours is No Disgrace is a very difficult piece to play. He almost nails it but not quite. He does a good job and I reckon he will have it down right probably sooner rather than later.
+neile2001 im being picky ... the mistakes are forgivable given the variation in mr squires various performances
this amount of effort ... dont be picky when chris himself couldnt play it twice the same
peace ... and no im not going to petulantly demand you play better
