Nice one Kevin. That "family weekend gathering" of boats reminded me of an embarrassing incident. I was leaving a port in Ireland, and 6 or 8 boats were closely grouped next to the channel. As I motored up to them, I gave a cheery, "How you doin'? Beautiful day!" One man dressed in a dark suit responded that they were dispersing someone's ashes. I dropped below deck and wanted to disappear. :-)
I'm sure it added an extra memory / tail to remember the one that had moved on. We are very curious about what you have been up to lately, Patrick. Hope you are doing well. Best regards from Jarle
After watching this video, my wife told me that she felt her grandfather (Adlard Coles) would have approved of and really enjoyed your sailing videos like this one. Heavy weather sailing in a beautiful boat - It's like watching his sailing stories played out on video, but 60 years later.
Glad to see that you're getting use of a bicycle on a sailboat. Perhaps, you might devise a propeller that you can attach to the rear sprocket in order to get through the locks? I'll make some popcorn for the next episode.
Wrong way Harry here. It IS ok to go against the grain sometimes Kevin. It makes life much more interesting and adventurous, so they tell me. Being you're probably in a warm weather location now - sipping a rum cooler laughing & saying to yourself - Boy I sure am glad I'm not sailing in the fridged waters in blustery conditions off Arichat right about now. Hang in there Captain. RA is a ole solid girl, she'll get you there and back again.
"sailing in the fridged waters in blustery conditions off Arichat", could be worse, a lot worse, stuck in the office of a job you hate, luckily I've never had that problem, and don't wish it on anyone. Any day n the water is a good day 👍
Did the yacht club have a more detailed chart posted in the clubhouse? The ones in my area usually have local charts up, partly yachty decoration and partly helpful for visitors and new sailors
Is having your sails balanced for sailing upwind is very important for you since you don't have a motor? Do you use your rudder angle as a good indication of how well balanced your sails are?
Yes, I was surprised to hear of Mr. Tohatsu's demise. Suggest replacing with a Tohatsu 6hp with 25 inch shaft the "Sail Pro" model. Outboardsonline or Onlineoutboards, I can never remember the web address.
With your progress towards the Bras D’Ors, I have been wondering about how you would tackle the locks and the lakes purely under sail. I am indeed looking forward to your adventures and hope you will be sharing them! I remain enjoying your soundtrack, it’s feeling like a brand now to me. Fair winds and following seas!

Oh good grief!

lol.
Good seeing you here Patrick!
Well, at least did not say " wow you look like you are all dressed up for a funeral "
We anchored in the same places last summer, and really loved the area.
man, it's almost like sailing. but without the cold and nagging fear. thanks!
You the man, Kevin. I think that every time. I just thought I would post it this time.
Thanks mate. PS, comments help the channel.

Woaah! Adlard Coles. I remember that book on my father's bookshelf. It was rather terrifying.
Thank you for another year of enjoyable and interesting videos. Happy christmas and safe sailing in 2025 where ever you are or go.
thank you Kevin really enjoyed this video
Thanks guys! Fair winds and happy holidays.
Real nice sailing views Kevin, thanks. You have an awesome Christmas!🎄
Happy holidays, Paul.
Good job!
Thanks Rauf. Happy Holidays.
Merry Christmas kevin. Hold fast
Merry Christmas!
Another good one Kevin
Looks just like the beautiful Kenmare Bay on the south west of Ireland!
The natural beauty of the entire area is really something to behold.
Merry Christmas - be safe
Merry Christmas, Dave!
@ Thank you
I hope I'll get to sail that coast one day. Stay safe, Kevin.
Best regards from Jarle
It's worth it ...

I've never done it myself, but, I saw a video on the Race 2 Alaska where they rigged boats that way. Apparently, having a motor is against the rules.
I had to look up “the tickle”, thanks for adding to my nautical vocabulary!
Seems to be a Canadian Maritimes thing. I recall several "tickles" in Newfoundland.
It’s possible to pull your boat through the lock with a long rope like the old days on the canal in uk
I thought of that, but there's the issue of getting past a draw bridge.

Indeed, indeed.

Didn't check. The locals of course know where the safe water is.

You want to have the boat balanced in any case, although it's not always possible. Yes, you can feel the balance by the rudder.
What happened to your Tohatsu?

Gear shift lever froze. No way to get at it except by removing the powerhead, which is major surgery. I donated Mr. T to Long Cove marina.
Is that your guitar music playing in the background?
Not on this episode, I got the track from TH-cam Audio Library.
A real cliff hanger there!! Beautiful place.

Thanks Charlie, stay tuned. The Bras d'Ors did indeed present some challenges to the engineless boat. Well worth it, though.
No harness or life jacket and single handing? Farewell and adieu.
We all have our own risk tolerance. Im sure he understands the risks. Thats up to him.
