Hi Rachel. This is a great time of the year for cattleyas. I have a few in buds myself. I remember the King blooming last year, but this year he stole the show with that enormous bloom. Look at him sitting on his throne with beauties on each side, as if he rules. Lol.
Thanks, Ana Maria. Of course there is never certainty but the bud did lie against the window at one stage so I'm now thinking it's water damage. I will keep the plant in isolation.

Your C. King of Taiwan is fantastic! So beautiful and big! The cattleya with normal sized blooms close to it looks almost tiny in comparison. They are both beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Samuel cattleya will look like when the blooms are fully open. It's so great that your schomburkia will bloom soon! How long will it take to bloom? I'm curious to see it. The buds are really visible now, does that mean the spike will not get too long? It will be so exciting when it blooms! 😊

I water once a week, which works in my environment with my potting mix. I cannot say for elsewhere. You need to check to see if your plant is dry before rewatering.

Such a beautiful bloom... Even mine bloomed last week but unfortunately was eaten up by squirrel the day it bloomed :(
