    Got mine installed yesterday. Engineer had to come into the house as it was a new install. Took an hour. Gone from 25 Mbps broadband with Sky to 220Mbps with Virgin. 360 TV box is a nice bit of kit too. So far I'm impressed.

      Do they have to go into every room of your house to install it for first timers

    • @stircrazyvidz8530
      @stircrazyvidz8530 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingdylan5999 if your house has had virgin media before then no, they'll just send you a quick start kit and an engineer won't even need to visit.
      But if you haven't then the engineer will do a test to see which rooms have the strongest wifi signals to determine the best position for your wifi receiver.

    I am trying to figure out what cables are installed for Virgin M100 broadband only? I will not be having TV services as I do not want them and do not have a TV licence anyway. There is a cable point on the pathway and my frontage is about 16ft from the pathway so assume they will need to run cable along my flower bed to a box on the front wall of the house. But just wondering what cables will need to go inside ? Would i still need the Co-ax ? Additional cables would need to be run in capping along my skirting board to the other-side of the lounge a phone/ethernet cable will fit inside my speaker capping but i do not think there is room for a co-ax as well.

    • @alesjones9549
      @alesjones9549  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi if there is an existing cable we can use that. If a new cable is needed we will have to get a cable from the street to the house either take up the edge or tack to a wall above ground or tuck into the edge concreted best to look where the CATV little grid is in the pavement and work a rout you are happy with from there. Either way we have to get a cable to the house.

    Is the coax cable a normal coax or is it fibre inside it?

    • @retr0nus
      @retr0nus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same question myself and in fact it is a ordinary coaxial cable but it is produced by Virgin Media and has been made properly for the internet to come through nice and fast. The fibre optic part is actually from what is called the head end node which feeds the fibre optic cable into an optical node which converts it to coax and then goes through to amplifier nodes and taps that then connect to your house.

    • @YouTubeSupportTeams
      @YouTubeSupportTeams 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      all cable inside the property is coax. outside it is fibre if you are in an FTTP enabled area, or coax if in the older style HFC. Either way it doesn't matter the service and speeds are the same.

    My mum had her hub 3 installed many years ago, we plan to leave soon. With returning the kit I've heard they expect the white insulation cable, however my mum doesnt have one, she has a black one that goes from the box on the wall outside then through the wall and directly into the hub 3, there is no internal box on interior wall like you show. We've never had a problem with our hub 3 even after all these years. If we try to send hub 3 back without the non existent white cable will they chase us saying we haven't sent our kit? And plus the way she has it set up as i described is it safe and proper? Or was this way of installation the norm back then or have they just cut corners?

    • @alesjones9549
      @alesjones9549  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The red light usually means modem mode but can be a fault. I have seen this fault working with internet and without. You can try to reset with a 50 second pinhole reset instead of 10 seconds I recommend to time it. Turn it off wait for the white light then pinhole for 50 seconds this will completely reset the hub. If you have a TV stb and are getting your channels that shows the signal is there.

      I've done what you said the second time when I reset the router, it did the same thing. Wite light for 5 minutes, then goes red. (HUB 4 )
      I even tried with a different hub (HUB 2) , the same thing happened, it went red after a bit.

    We are renting a flat in East London. Does Virgin Media need to drill a hole in our front door? (I fear the landlord will not allow that)

    • @alesjones9549
      @alesjones9549  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We should not drill through door frames or window frames. If a cable needs to come into the flat it will be through the wall. The video is a top floor flat and the entry point is as it should be, through the wall in the corner.

      @@alesjones9549 By chance there was a Virgin Media engineer doing some drilling and I think placing some cabling just outside our door (we are on a 5th floor flat) but nicely done with covers on it. He said that the lines will be ready in a week or two and that some drilling may be required to pass through the cabling just above our front door to connect it to the inside of our flat for the router. Sorry I hope I was able to explain that. So do you think drilling would not be required? And if I was to cancel Sky how fast to VMs engineers arrive for a visit?

      @@TechNomadUK1 a cable will need to be put inside your flat I'm in the north lead times are about 7 to 14 days ATM not sure about down south. You can contact me privately with your postcode and contact and I can refer you for a deal.

    Hello does the Virgin V6 box (not the router) have a dedicated ethernet socket through which I could connect to my Network streamer listening to music like tidal?
    Or am I forced to use the router going the ethernet way?
    Many thanks
    I don't want to connect via WiFi.

      No only the HDMI cable to TV the Ethernet connection is to connect to the router

    What cable is it from internal box to the splitter, reason I'm asking is that I have sky currently and have run cables from external wall to my sky box under my wooden floors, could these be used?

      only if they're solid core and have no noise ingress on them (needs verified with a meter). hollow core can be used for tv only in very short distances with no problems i.e a few metres max and again with no noise ingress.

      Some of the new expansion areas of the network are fttp and converted to coaxial externaly. The existing areas are coaxial from cab to house the fiber convertision takes place before the cab. All equipment hubs and TV boxes are connected to coaxial cables.
