    I’ve been trying to find info on how to mix an oxide wash having just purchased a bunch. Hard to find! This video was So Very helpful and wonderful! Thank you! I also appreciate the storage tip you gave.
    I have two questions.
    1) Is it necessary to use a face mask when working with the oxide powders? I thought it was but you’re not wearing one.
    2) in f I just use water and oxide with no gersly or epk when you say it might not bind to tbe ckay body, does that mean it’ll just crackle and fall into the kiln shelf? I’m using a community kiln and don’t want to damage anything.
    Thank you again!

    • @deMibPottery
      @deMibPottery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks :-)
      1) it is safer to use a mask. I just forget some times :-)
      2) wors case it may crackle or glide off but its rare in my experience. But to be safe you can also place you pot on something

    Thank you for this informative video! I’m trying to figure out a better way to apply cobalt carbonate over a glaze. It’s so watery and drips easily or causes the glaze to rub off as I’m applying it with a brush. I’ve seen some people painting the cobalt oxide on with a brush and it looks less watery. Maybe they add something else to the cobalt wash? If I want the oxide not to run I shouldn’t put the flux in, right? Also what is the difference in results when using cobalt carbonate verses cobalt oxide?

      I have a video here with some variations of how to do wash:
      88. How to Make Oxide Wash for Pottery Glazing
      th-cam.com/video/6yfOOnhW6So/w-d-xo.html
      Carbonates are much smaller particles so tend to blend and melt out better with glazes and run less. But I also used oxides or stains and ghat can work too.
      Just experiment and find your own unique combinations that you love

    Can I use a feldspar as the flux instead of gerstley borate? I don’t currently have any. Previously I’ve mixed my washes just oxide and water.
    Also, I used copper carbonate without a glaze over top expecting a black wash and got green. Should I use copper oxide instead for black?

    i am making a sculpture of my dog, a black and silver miniature schnauzer and I'm struggling on how to glaze it. Do you think something like this would be appropriate? I like how matte, textured and coloured animal sculptures look, but am unsure of how people create something like this! Looking forward to your video, I have found them very helpful and interesting.
