American Idiot may be seen as a classic by a younger generation, but I was in 9th grade when that album dropped and only the most wanna-be punk kids were listening to it. Then you get to nimrod, which was where their comedy pushed into social satire. But starting with Warning, they sort of lost the comedy element, such that by American Idiot it was just anger and no real wit.
American Idiot was also throwing a punch at one of the easiest targets ever, post-9/11 America. Even though I agreed with all the messages on it, that was the problem, it didn't CHALLENGE me. There was nothing that really made me think about social issues. Even the most filler fare on Nimrods, like King For A Day, challenged by old perspectives of counter culture.

I'm an autistic trans male, and this band has helped me, so much even now throughout my diagnosis process I have questioned everything, but knowing what I know now I'm no longer really masking unless the situation depends on it. I'm a high masking individual, and still have issues masking at times, and learning how to take that mask off. Billie has seemed to help me even more with that lately. I really can't believe that the American idiot album is almost as old as I am. But everyone always comes back to this particular band. I can name a lot of songs I went through the green day song library in just about a week and I literally fell in love. I can't say there's a lot of bands that can make an 8 minute song that I can listen to. Besides guns n roses. Even then I barely even listen to guns n roses anymore. The bands energy as an autistic person just really makes me feel safe and welcomed within the fandom, and I really love that as a person who needs to talk to someone else about their interests. Seeing these fandoms like MCR and green day are just a breath of fresh air for me. Such a different world compared to when I first walked into the metal community, and it was so closed off. You weren't even really allowed to listen to other genres when I came into that community. I still think to this day the metal community was just the start of me actually noticing my high masking traits. I'd listen to wake me up when September ends on repeat when I even found out I was autistic, because it was difficult in some situations I'd go nonverbal, and those were the days I'd really just get home and cry, because in some situations I've even lost my ability to speak. I feel like I've lost a lot but I've gained a lot at the whole time it's still really scary to deal with.
I'm completely hooked to the lyrics and the melody of this track, the lyrics just don't fail to amaze me that how great this band is. This is my favourite Green Day song, I know it's hard to choose but I can relate this song pretty well lol

I'm an autistic trans male, and this band has helped me, so much even now throughout my diagnosis process I have questioned everything, but knowing what I know now I'm no longer really masking unless the situation depends on it. I'm a high masking individual, and still have issues masking at times, and learning how to take that mask off. Billie has seemed to help me even more with that lately. I really can't believe that the American idiot album is almost as old as I am. But everyone always comes back to this particular band. I can name a lot of songs I went through the green day song library in just about a week and I literally fell in love. I can't say there's a lot of bands that can make an 8 minute song that I can listen to. Besides guns n roses. Even then I barely even listen to guns n roses anymore. The bands energy as an autistic person just really makes me feel safe and welcomed within the fandom, and I really love that as a person who needs to talk to someone else about their interests. Seeing these fandoms like MCR and green day are just a breath of fresh air for me. Such a different world compared to when I first walked into the metal community, and it was so closed off. You weren't even really allowed to listen to other genres when I came into that community. I still think to this day the metal community was just the start of me actually noticing my high masking traits. I'd listen to wake me up when September ends on repeat when I even found out I was autistic, because it was difficult in some situations I'd go nonverbal, and those were the days I'd really just get home and cry, because in some situations I've even lost my ability to speak. I feel like I've lost a lot but I've gained a lot at the whole time it's still really scary to deal with.
