This is how traditional / original country used to sound. Country and blues sound came from hard times and sadness and that is what you are hearing here. Even though he didn't write the song, he brought the old sound of country in this song. If you listen to older country songs you will understand why I am trying to convey. Patsy Cline - Crazy Loretta Lynn - Coal Miner's Daughter Tammy Wynette - Stand by Your Man (she sings with a tear drop in her voice)
Cold live at the CMA is Fantastic. Chris is one of those rare talents that does it better live. If you have any doubts go check out Tennessee Whiskey Live in Austin since you have already reacted to it.
I am not generally a Country Fan, however Chris Stapleton's voice is definitely in a sub genre of Country, more along the lines of Country Rhythm & Blues, with a crap load of soul!!! His is a select few Country singers that I absolutely love & listen to quite frequently 😊 And as always, your reactions make me smile, so thank you from the bottom of my heart King of The Mix ❤
It's amazing that such a prolific & successful songwriter sang a cover that became his signature song. This was written by Dean Dillon & Linda Hargrove in 1981. George Jones sang it in '83 & it reached #2 on the Country Singles chart. Chris arrived in Nashville & got his 1st job as a songwriter in 2001. He sang his far more blues version during a vocal warm-up session. Everybody who heard it, loved it & urged him to record it. He did so in 2015 & the rest is history. As others have commented, he's always better live. Listen to this one Live At Austin City Limits. Then listen to "I Was Wrong" from the same performance.
Future reference: As good as Chris is in the studio, he is 10x times better LIVE. Chk the live version of this one from his Austin City Limits performance.
Oh, boy, when I saw you had discovered Chris Stapleton in this song, I was gleeful with anticipation of the journey you have in store for you, and the pleasure and amazement it's bound to bring you. There are at least 20 of his songs that are "must hear," just to begin to get an idea of who he is--what he does with his voice, the incredibleness of his guitar playing, his interaction with his wife when she's singing with him, the greatness of his band, his incredible soulfulness and the degree to which he is steeped in Black music and influenced by other kinds of music, his versatility, the unerring rightness of his choices/phrasing...and on and on. But rather than give you a long list, I'll just go back into your other reactions to see which, if any, of his other music you've already reacted to. BTW, I've already suggested you might enjoy Hall and Oates ("You're a Rich Girl" maybe for starters, and then "Sarah Smile"...I'm thinking for a whole other direction you might try Home Free, an a cappella group that, like Chris Stapleton, has country roots but does many genres, and even has the blessings of Shawn Stockman for their version of "End of the Road," though you should hear some other songs first so that you can get your mind blown when you hear that one after having seen them in their country mode. Most folks start off with "Man of Constant Sorrow." If you do react to them, try hard to remember (it ain't easy to remember because it's hard to believe) that they are 100% a cappella, so the drums, harmonica, didgeridoo and all else you hear is produced by their voices.
He has a new song out called it takes a woman but this man is even beter live bro. Check out his live versions. He has a masive library of great songs that really have been squeezed into a country category when he is really just blues and bluegrass.
Someone commented that if you dont pause the video, you'll get a copyright strike... well IT'S TRUE 😢 you can try to make screen tiny, or put a filter over it, or pause 2 or 3 times.. i know a couple who got over twohundred thousand subs and because of the band THE EAGLES, they got their 3rd strike and lost their account 😢😢😢
That's not true. Pausing or not has NO affect on copyright strikes. A few years ago I watched a video of a TH-cam lawyer saying it didn't matter whether you paused the reaction video or not. It all depends on the artist's copyright infringement arrangements. Some artists are more demanding on TH-cam's regulations than others.
Love the way you described how the song felt. I can't put Chris in a box either. but he touches my soul, so I call it soul music. Check out Sometimes I Cry live at the bing. You won't regret it
Digging your reactions! Carry on! If you would like a same lane recommendation you may want to check out "Colder Weather" from Zac Brown Band. Soulful country and they actually do a bit more with their harmonies. Anyways happy i came across your videos. Keep it up!
Oh my gosh you have to react to the live version from Austin City Limits ❤❤ always react to Chris live ❤❤❤another great song to check out is Cold live from the CMAs and Either Way. Can’t go wrong with Chris, he can sing the phone book and I’d buy a ticket

Hey, you need to pause listening to Chris, just to get your composure back 😂. All good , keep discovering this phenom talent! Please listen to Watch you Burn live!
We who love reactions, understand that pausing is necessary, and there will always be complainers, no matter what you do, so pause because your time is worth something! 😊@@KingGreatnessKG
I can't believe after the way you reacted to Chris Stapleton, you didn't wind up going down the Chris rabbit hole. I guess there's just too much great stuff to react to, and too many paid requests for that to be practicable. Still, I do hope you get back to him soon, because I know you're going to flip when you hear what he can do. I know you did check out some other stuff he sang, but imho it barely counts. Again, imho, it was nowhere near his most interesting and exciting music, and in no way could have given you any idea of his mind-blowing greatness and range. In case you ever do get back to him, here are some suggestions, with the further suggestion that you react to the live versions-- he's even (way) better live, in so many ways. 1. Cold -- the Country Music Awards version - th-cam.com/video/gZc42RRxfr0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ChrisStapleton 2. I Was Wrong - live, Austin City Limits - th-cam.com/video/Ql3Vz2642pk/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ChrisStapletonVEVO 3. Nobody to Blame -live, Farm Aid - th-cam.com/video/iUpBGHQWTKo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=FarmAid 4. Sometimes I Cry - live at the Bing Lounge - th-cam.com/video/Lq3Av1IA8rc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=987TheBull This will barely begin to give you a taste of what he can do, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere, right? Meantme, I'll go back to your other reactions and enjoy those while I keep hoping.👍

That’s his wife, Morgane Stapleton, providing the harmony. She performs with him regularly. You usually see her in his live videos.
Ooohh okay thanks for that Katrina!

Most reaction videos get copyrighted regardless because of the audio anyways, sometimes it’s not even about the video. Thank you though Karen ❤️

bro if you want to get paid you gotta pause, can't listen to the whole song at once continuously, the algorithm will get you for copyright
